India's unemployment rate has risen to a three-month high of 7.8% in March amid concerns a global slowdown will hurt Asia’s third-largest economy. "India's labour markets deteriorated in March 2023. The unemployment rate increased from 7.5% in February to 7.8% in March. The effect of this is compounded by the simultaneous fall in the labour force participation rate, which fell from 39.9% to 39.8% , as per the report from the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy.
This led to a fall in the employment rate from 36.9% in February to 36.7% in March, this has led to the employment fell from 409.9 million to 407.6 million.

Smishing botnet spreading phishing SMS
In the midst of major cyber-attacks targeting the general population of Iran, Check Point Research sees ongoing malicious campaigns using socially engineered SMS messages to infect tens of thousands of devices of Iran's citizens. The SMS messages, designed to impersonate the Iranian government, lure victims into downloading malicious Android applications that steal credit card credentials, personal SMS messages and two-factor authentication codes. The threat actors then proceed to make unauthorized money withdrawals and turn each infected device into a bot, spreading the malware to others. Check Point Research attributes attacks to threat actors, likely in Iran, who are financially motivated. The threat actors involved leverage a technique known as "smishing" botnets, where compromised devices are used as bots to spread similar phishing SMS messages to other potential victims. The threat actors use multiple Telegram channels to promote and sell their tools. For $50-$150, the threat actors provide a full “Android Campaign Kit”, including the malicious application and underlying infrastructure, with a control panel that can be easily managed by any unskilled attacker via a simple Telegram bot interface.
The report further states that, in the midst of major cyber attacks targeting the general population of Iran, including cyber attacks on the railways, gas stations and more. Check Point Research attributes these latest cyber attacks to threat actors who are motivated purely by financial gain. Check Point Research estimates that the threat actors behind these attacks compromised and installed malware on tens of thousands of Android devices, resulting in the theft of billions of Iranian Rials from victims, with estimates of $1,000 to $2,000 per victims. The Pandora Papers’s 11.9 million records arrived from 14 different offshore services firms in a jumble of files and formats – even ink-on-paper – presenting a massive data-management challenge. These are people who use tax and secrecy havens to buy property and hide assets; many avoid taxes and worse. They include more than 330 politicians and 130 Forbes billionaires, as well as celebrities, fraudsters, drug dealers, royal family members and leaders of religious groups around the world. The task involved three main elements: journalists, technology and time. The investigation is based on a leak of confidential records of 14 offshore service providers that give professional services to wealthy individuals and corporations seeking to incorporate shell companies, trusts, foundations and other entities in low- or no-tax jurisdictions.
As per Deloitte Anti-Money Laundering Preparedness Survey Report 2020, the amount of money laundered in one year is estimated to be between two percent and five percent of global GDP, or from $800 billion to $2 trillion annually. The paper claims how several ultra-rich used trusts as a vehicle for the sole purpose of holding their investments. In India, it is legitimate to set up a trust both in the country and outside. The trust is governed by Indian Trusts Act, which does not see trust per se as a legal entity but does recognise the trustee. It allows trustees to manage and make use of assets for the beneficiaries’ benefits. The rule also allows setting up trust in foreign jurisdiction. Cyberattacks against critical infrastructure can take many forms including DDoS attacks, ransomware attacks, destructive malware attacks and unauthorized access to industrial control systems or hardware.
The increasing use of internet connected sensors, automated controls and remote access in critical infrastructure operations has inevitably led to a higher risk of cyberattacks aimed at these operations. However, the beginning of an alarming trend can be traced back to an attack that took place more than a decade ago. There were many historic critical infrastructure outages caused by natural catastrophe or system failure are at least somewhat useful in determining the consequences of cyberattacks on such infrastructure. Electricity is in itself very critical infrastructure, but all other critical infrastructure is also dependent on the power grid including water supply, energy supply, communication, transportation, healthcare, and banking. Finally, because cyberattacks are an entirely man-made threat, as opposed to the risks from natural hazards, motivation is an important factor in determining the probability of successful attacks.
