Karun Nair made his international debut through an ODI series against Zimbabwe in 2016. In the same year, he made his Test debut against England at the PCA Stadium in Mohali. It was in the same series when he became the second Indian after Virender Sehwag to smash a triple century in Test cricket.
It was a dream start to his career at the highest level and he was destined to get better. However, after India’s next Test series against the Aussies where he couldn’t score too many runs, he was left out of the national reckoning.
Four years down the line, the Rajasthan-born has plied his trade for various IPL franchises. In the 2020 IPL, the right-hander managed 16 runs at an average of eight. The 29-year-old played in the 2021 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy where he failed in the first four games.
You can either call Karun Nair a one-match wonder or wasted potential depending on which side of the table you are. Karun Nair, a great performer in Ranji Trophy, was picked for India in 2016 for the Zimbabwe tour and made his ODI debut there. However, he announced his arrival in style when he wore the whites for the first time. In his first Test series, he became just the second batsman after Sehwag to score a triple century for India.
He was in the fast lane of success after scoring the triple century but the stoppage came fast and sudden as India under Kohli played with only 5 batsmen while at home and his direct competition was with the vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane. A series of low scores against the mighty Australians didn’t help either. He was dropped from the eleven and later from the squad as well when white ball vice-captain Rohit Sharma was preferred over him.

Chennai Super Kings knocked out Kings XI Punjab from the play-offs race of the Indian Premier League (IPL), outplaying them in the last league match by five wickets here on Sunday.
In order to qualify for the play-offs, Punjab had to win this game by 53 runs or more but the visitors failed in doing so and thus got knocked out of the play-offs.
With this result, Rajasthan Royals became the fourth team to progress to the next stage with 14 points. Sunrisers Hyderabad, Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai are the other three teams.
Put in to bat, Chennai bowlers did a fantastic job to bundle out Punjab for 153. After that, Suresh Raina (61 not out), who played sensibly throughout the innings and Deepak Chahar (39) along with other batters helped Chennai to complete the chase in the 19/1 overs.
Chennai got off to a bad start, losing opener Ambati Rayudu (1) in the second over.
After adding 24 runs to the total with new batsman Suresh Raina (61 not out), opener Faf du Plesis (14) also departed in the fifth over. In the same over, Sam Billings (0) was also sent packing by Ankit Rajpoot.
After five overs, Chennai were reeling at 27/3. Harbhajan Singh was sent up the order. The move also paid little as the off-spinner scored 19 runs in 22 balls which included two boundaries and one six. But in the 11th over, Harbhajan was dismissed by Ravichandran Ashwin

1- KKR scored 245 runs – the highest total in IPL 2018.
2- KKR’s 245 against KXIP is also the highest total scored by any team against Punjab in IPL ever. The previous record (240 runs) was made by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in IPL 2018 at Mohali.
3- It is also the highest total by Kolkata in IPL ever, surpassing 222 for 3 against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in IPL 2018.
4- It is also the fourth highest total by any team in the history of IPL. The first and second slot in this list is held by RCB – 263 for 5 against Rising Pune Supergiants (RPS) and 248 for 3 against Gujarat Lions (GL). CSK are at in the third spot with their 246 for 6 against Rajasthan Royals (RR).
5- On Saturday, total 459 runs were scored at the Holkar stadium. This was the second highest scoring match in IPL after the IPL 2010 match played between RR and CSK at Chennai in which 469 runs were scored.
6- A total of 67 boundaries (36 fours and 31 sixes) were struck in yesterday’s match – the second most in IPL match ever. The match between CSK and RR in IPL 2010 had seen 69 boundaries being hit.

AB de Villiers' (57) brilliant knock helped Royal Challengers Bangalore beat Kings XI Punjab by four wickets in the Vivo Indian Premier League (IPL) match here on Friday.
Chasing 156, opener Brendon McCullum (0) departed in the first over and skipper Virat Kohli (21) also wasted the start and went back in the fifth over.
De Villiers and opener Quinton de Kock (45) then forged a crucial 54-run partnership for the third wicket before in-form de Kock was sent packing by Ravichandran Ashwin in the 12th over.
Mandeep Singh (22) then came in the middle and supported de Villiers by playing some beautifully crafted shots around the ground.
But just when Bangalore side was at the brink of the win, the South African player was dismissed by Andrew Tye in the 19th over. His 40-ball innings was laced with two boundaries and four sixes. Just after that, Mandeep also got run out in the same over.
But at that time, it was just a formality and lower-order batsmen Chris Woakes (1 not out) and Washington Sunder (9 not out) completed it with ease.
Earlier, Kings XI Punjab were bowled out for 155.
Lokesh Rahul (47) and Ashwin (33) were the top scorers for Punjab.
For Bangalore, pacer Umesh Yadav scalped three wickets while Chris Woakes, Kulwant Khejroliya and Sundar took two wickets each.
Put in to bat, Punjab started off on a poor note, losing opener Mayank Agarwal (15), new batsmen Aaron Finch (0) and Yuvraj Singh (4) the fourth over. With the scoreboard reading 32, Mayank and Finch were dismissed in consecutive balls, while Yuvraj was bowled on the last ball by Umesh Yadav.
Unperturbed by the sudden fall of wickets, opener Lokesh Rahul (47) played sensibly and also hammered the bowlers all around the park before getting out in the 12th over to spinner Sundar. In his 30-ball knock, he slammed two boundaries and four sixes.
