A report finds that recently there has been a sharp increase in the malicious IoT botnet activity due to growing number of #IoTdevices in use. There are billions of IoT devices in use around the world, and this number is only going to increase in the future.
An expert says, there is lax in security of many IoT devices. Many IoT devices are not properly secured, making them easy targets for attackers. IoT botnet attacks can be very profitable for attackers, as they can be used to disrupt businesses, steal data, and launch other malicious activities.
According to the Nokia Threat Intelligence Report 2023, the number of IoT devices (bots) engaged in botnet-driven DDoS attacks rose from around 200,000 a year ago to approximately 1 million devices, generating more than 40% of all DDoS traffic today. This sharp increase in botnet activity has been driven by a number of factors.
The Report found that IoT botnet DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) traffic, originating from a large number of insecure IoT devices with the aim of disrupting telecom network services for millions of users, increased fivefold over the past year, following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and stemming from the growing increase in profit-driven hacking collectives operated by #cybercriminals.

Cyber Defenses against Tech War
2021 has already broken records for cyberattacks, with an all-time high of 93% increase of ransomware and over 70% in all cyberattacks in the US in just 12 months. Offenses have reached a record of ransomware victims, with an unknown scope of attacks mostly in the US, and some victims in Europe as well. The ransomware attack, apparently conducted by the Russian speaking group REvil, represents a catastrophic combination of 2021’s most notorious cyberattack trends, supply chain attacks and ransomware. As many as 1,500 businesses around the world have been affected by the biggest ransomware attack to be recorded in history, the chief executive of American IT firm Kaseya has said.
Software has become a weapon and the data the prisoners of war. The hackers have demanded $70 million to restore all the affected businesses' data. Among the businesses affected are supermarkets in Sweden, IT companies in Germany and the Netherlands, and schools and kindergartens in New Zealand were knocked offline. The hackers have used the VSA software developed by Kaseya which helps companies remotely monitor their computer systems. The company said it sent a detection tool to nearly 900 customers. Ransomware criminals break into networks and sow malware that cripples networks on activation by scrambling all their data. Victims get a decoder key when they pay up. Sources said, REvil level examines the financial records of the victim – insurance claims if they can find them – before they encrypt the data. They threaten to dump the stolen data online, unless paid, which has become another source of income and a nightmare for the victim.

As per the data from LinkedIn ,based on the survey responses of 1,891 professionals from May 8 to June 4, findings reveal how the aftermath of the pandemic’s second wave has left Indian professionals — particularly Gen Z and working women — increasingly vulnerable to the economic uncertainty in today’s evolving job market. The report shows that ,India’s overall workforce confidence has declined after peaking in early March, with a composite score of +54 today (down 4 points from +58 in March). This dip in confidence is reflected strongly across professionals from creative industries such as Entertainment, Design, and Media & Comms, who expressed being uncertain about the future of their employers. But as several parts of the economy gradually reopen, professionals from Software & IT and Hardware & Networking are growing increasingly confident about the future of their organizations.
As India slowly begins to come out of the second wave of Covid-19 cases, we see the year-over-year hiring rate recover from a low of 10% in April to 35% at the end of May. As more businesses adopt digital first strategy with volumes of customer data being collected and stored, cybersecurity as a vertical is poised to grow faster than any predicted numbers. With growing digitisation and adoption of online commerce as well as work from home policies, India is expected to develop local solutions for their cybersecurity needs, and the same will be applicable for the world. The government too is keen on growing homegrown cybersecurity startups, and is working on the data privacy policy. From a macro perspective, the segment is at the cusp of explosive growth.

दुनियाभर के 17 मीडिया संस्थानों की कंसोर्टियम ने दावा किया है कि दुनिया के कई देशों में सरकारें पत्रकारों और ऐक्टिविस्टों की जासूसी करा रही है। वैश्विक स्तर पर कुछ मीडिया संस्थानों द्वारा मिलकर प्रकाशित की गयी इस रिपोर्ट में भारत समेत विभिन्न देशों में इजरायली NSO ग्रुप के 'पेगासस' स्पाईवेयर के जरिए कई लोगों के सर्विलांस की बात कही गई। रिपोर्ट के अनुसार, भारत में कम से कम 38 लोगों की जासूसी की गई। इनमें पत्रकारों से लेकर कारोबारियों, मंत्रियों और एक सुप्रीम कोर्ट जज का नाम भी आया है। लीक हुए डेटा में 50000 से अधिक फोन नंबरों की सूची है।
