It is absolutely true that technology will be the primary driver of investments worldwide over the next five years and more. India is now aiming to evolve into a $5 trillion economy and technology-driven startups are going to play a crucial role in achieving this goal. With over half a billion internet subscribers, India—one of the world’s largest and fastest-growing markets for digital consumers—is at the cusp of a digital revolution. When we see the data points, At the state level, Maharashtra has the highest penetration of active Internet users at 61 percent, followed by Goa at 60 percent and Kerala at 59 percent. Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, and Bihar have the lowest Internet population at 29 percent, 29 percent, and 24 percent, respectively. There is emphasis on digital technologies and start-ups cutting across sectors-–from agriculture and education to post offices, banking and more. The number of active Internet users in India is expected to increase by 45% in the next five years and touch 900 million by 2025.
This increase will be driven by higher adoption in rural India, which has clocked a 13% growth to 299 million internet users over the past year, or 31% of India’s rural population, a report said. By 2025, there will be more internet users in rural India than in urban India. Given this, the digital ecosystem will need to evolve to address the specific needs of this emerging demography.

Ransomware attacks have become popular in the last few years and pose one of India’s most prominent Cyber Security challenges in 2020. According to the Cyber Security firm Sophos, about 82% of Indian organizations were hit by ransomware in the last six months. Ransomware attacks involve hacking into a user’s data and preventing them from accessing it until a ransom amount is paid. Ransomware attacks are critical for individual users but more so for businesses who can’t access the data for running their daily operations. However, with most ransomware attacks, the attackers don’t release the data even after the payment is made and instead try to extort more money. Going forward, there will be about 11.6 billion IoT devices by 2021. IoT devices include desktops, laptops, mobile phones, smart security devices, etc. As the adoption of IoT devices is increasing at an unprecedented rate, so are the challenges of Cyber Security.
