ग्लोबल वार्मिंग का असर मौसम पर पड़ा है, जिसके कारण पहले की अपेक्षा अब गर्मी ज्यादा समय तक पड़ती है। ऐसे में चिलचिलाती धूप और उमस में लोगों का जीना मुहाल हो जाता है। इस साल लू से लोगों के मारे जाने की खबरें दुनिया के कई हिस्सों से आईं। अगर पृथ्वी का तापमान ऐसे ही बढ़ता रहा तो लू से मरने वालों की संख्या में इजाफा होगा, जो बेहद चिंताजनक है। पृथ्वी एवं विज्ञान मंत्रालय के अनुसार, अपने देश में 2013 से 2016 के बीच 4,620 लोगों की मौत लू लगने के कारण हुई। इस साल मई में पाकिस्तान का कराची शहर लू से 65 लोगों की मौत से सुर्खियों में आ गया वहीं, दूसरी ओर जापान में इस साल लू के कारण सरकार को प्राकृतिक आपदा घोषित करनी पड़ी। जापान में लू के कारण 30 हजार से अधिक लोगों को अस्पताल में भर्ती कराना पड़ा।
