The term "Funding Winter" refers to a period in which funding for start-ups becomes more difficult to obtain due to a variety of factors, including economic conditions, market trends, and investor sentiment.
Funding Winter has brought a significant impact on the growth and development of start-ups, particularly those in emerging markets like India. The romance of ransomware attacks with local self-governing bodies is not new. When WannaCry had been declared dead and gone for long, it resurfaced in quite a few municipalities in the US in 2019 and some of them ended up paying ransom. Now, the similar story seems to be getting re-enacted, this time its Canada. With the recent attack on 22ndJuly, a post on LockBit’s dark web site listed townofstmarys.com as a victim of the ransomware and previewed files that had been stolen and encrypted. All it seems that, #ransomware IS REDEFINING CRIME.
The Canadian town of St. Marys, Ontario, has been hit by a ransomware attack that has locked staff out of internal systems and encrypted data. The small town of around 7,500 residents seems to be the latest target of the notorious LockBit ransomware group. The notorious ransomware gang locked the internal servers and encrypted the data of St. Marys, a town in southwestern Ontario.
#Cyberattackers who launch these malwares demand a ransom from the victims in order to not compromise their data. The town’s Mayor Al Strathdee said. “We have a skilled and knowledgeable team of Town staff, cyber security experts and legal counsel working around the clock to resolve any issues related to this incident,”
The threat becomes significant as not only individuals but private or government organizations, businesses or even entire towns and cities can get under attack and lose control over their data.
Critical municipal services such as fire, police, transit, and water/wastewater systems were unaffected by the incident and are operating as usual. The visitors of St Mary’s website are greeted with a message saying the town is investigating a cyber security incident that locked an internal server and encrypted the data. The LockBit cartel gave the town a deadline to pay the ransom or have their data published online.

In 2021, social video app TikTok had approximately 78.7 million users in the United States. This figure is projected to increase by around eight percent year-over-year, reaching 84.9 million users in 2022. TikTok is one of the fastest-growing social media apps in the United States and especially popular with younger digital audiences. Meanwhile, TikTok emerged as the top grossing non-game app in Q1 2022, generating $821 million in consumer spending in the quarter. On Google Play, it came second to Google One, which topped the chart with nearly $250 million, according to Sensor Tower. A Washington Post report late last month claimed that Meta allegedly paid a prominent Republican consulting firm to malign TikTok. According to the report, Meta ran a nationwide campaign to sow distrust about one of the company's top competitors, TikTok.

The report identifies 23% of organizations globally are currently working on or planning to use quantum technologies, moving from scientific research into real-world solutions. Furthermore, 20% of organizations are expecting to increase investments in technology in the next year. It further says, China (43%) and the Netherlands (42%) have the largest share of companies working on or planning to work on quantum technologies, well ahead of Germany and the UK (each on 26%), versus 23% on average globally. These companies intend to leverage the tech in a number of ways, from improving sustainability in operations, and discovery of new materials for battery manufacture, to securing information, through medical sensors and mitigating harmful industrial gases. Financial services organizations are using quantum technologies for more accurate pricing of risky assets, optimizing portfolios for better returns, and detecting frauds. In addition, Life Sciences companies are attempting to shorten the drug-development cycle using quantum computing.

Industry leaders joining the initiative already include the likes of AMD, Intel, Meta, Microsoft, Google, TSMC, Samsung, Arm, and Qualcomm, whereas Nvidia is notably absent from the grouping, despite exploring a chiplet path for its next-generation GPU designs. The UCIe 1.0 specification is a complete standardized die-to-die interconnect, encompassing a physical layer, protocol stack, software model, and compliance testing, a consortium said. It natively maps PCI Express (PCIe) and Compute Express Link (CXL) protocols. The spec will enable end users to mix and match dies and other chiplet components from multiple sources with different packaging options.

Digital twin refers to a digital replica of physical assets (physical twin), processes and systems that can be used for various purposes.
