Former minister and BJD leader, Damodar Rout announced that the name of his new political party is likely to be ‘Biju Samatakranti Dal.’
While speaking to mediapersons in Paradip today, Rout said “We are going to form a regional party. Even though the name has not been finalised, I have suggested ‘Biju Samatakranti Dal’. Other members of the party may also come up with other names.”
The expelled BJD leader had announced about his new party last month stating that it will be named after former Chief Minister late Biju Patnaik.
Ever since Rout’s expulsion for his alleged anti-party activities, he has been on the centre stage of Odisha politics. The senior leader was expelled in September just days after alleging multiple instances of corruption in various departments of the State government.

The proposed brewery factory in Balarampur village in Dhenkanal district has been scrapped by CM Naveen Patnaik. But, over 500 trees were felled and that’s the biggest pain in this entire saga. The RDC has proposed massive tree plantation in the area to compensate for the loss. But, is it easy? It will take at least 30 years to grow the trees to the position they were when cut for the beer factory.
The political atmosphere has been charged up over this issue on the expected lines. Leaders and political parties do not want to let this opportunity go. And, BJD is planning a counter to build public perception on this matter. It was the turn of expelled BJD leader Dr. Damodar Rout who went to Balarampur today and planted some saplings in Jhinkargadi forest. He not only called the Government “blind”, but also blamed a senior IAS officer for this mess.

Odisha has land for beer unit, not for Paika rebellion memorial: Pradhan
Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Wednesday hit out at the Odisha government, saying it has land for beer factory but not for a Paika rebellion memorial.
Pradhan said the Centre has repeatedly requested the state to make available 50 acre land for the construction of memorial at Barunei foothills.
"The state government failed to provide 50 acres of land for the memorial despite repeated requests from the Union government. But, you (the Chief Minister) provided 600 acres for a beer factory for which thousands of trees were cut down in Dhenkanal," said Pradhan.
The Minister was addressing the 119th birth anniversary of former Chief Minister Harekrushna Mahatab here.
Paik rebellion, also known as Paika Bidroha, was an armed rebellion against the British East India Company's rule in Odisha in 1817.
The Centre and state are commemorating 200 years of the rebellion with a series of events.
Pradhan also criticized the state government for not giving permission to install a statue of Harekrushna Mahatab at his village in Agarpada of Bhadrak district.

Demonetisation ruined economy, says Niranjan
Terming demonetisation of Rs 500 and 1,000 currency notes in 2016 as an ‘organised loot’, the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) Thursday said it would stage a protest before the RBI office here Friday as part of its nation-wide stir on the second anniversary of the note ban.
PCC president Niranjan Patnaik alleged the BJP government at the Centre has ruined the economy of the country through demonetisation.

Odisha Modifies Guidelines Of Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana; All Govt Hospitals Covered
After facing criticism, Odisha government on Saturday made massive changes in guidelines of Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana (BSKY) with the annual income limit for treatment of cancer, heart and kidney diseases increased from Rs 1 lakh per annum to Rs 3 lakh per annum. Besides, all premier hospitals including Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai, CMC Vellore, Narayana Hrudalaya have also been covered under the scheme.
The government which has been claiming its health care scheme better than Centre’s Ayushman Bharat yojana changed the guidelines to benefit more families in the State.
Terming State’s own health care scheme a success, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik informed that over 1.1 crore patients have already been benefitted within two months of the launch of the scheme.
“Odias who are living outside Odisha can now also avail the scheme anywhere in the country and the people from the State who wish to seek the benefits the scheme outside the State can do so,” said Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
State Health and Family Welfare Minister, Pratap Jena informed that nearly 4,036 medical packages were included under the BSKY whereas the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY) covers only 1,343 packages.

In what could be the stepping stone of a new political equation in Odisha ahead of the general elections, expelled BJD leader and former minister Damodar Rout was seen at the Congress camp
Rout along with leaders of several political outfits was seen attending the ‘Sambidhan Banchao’ conference at Congress Bhawan here in Bhubaneswar.
Apart from Rout, CPM leader Janardan Pati and Samajwadi Party’s Rabi Behera were also seen at the event.
The presence of Rout has certainly sparked speculation over formation of a new alliance against the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD).
After finalising its first set of candidates, the Congress made it amply clear that it is now shifting its focus to forge a non-BJD & non-BJP alliance by reaching out to other smaller regional parties through its ‘Sambidhan Banchao’ conference.
However, Dama Rout denied claims of joining Congress. He further made it clear that he will not join any political party.

BJP State vice-president Bhrigu Baxipatra told newspersons here that the party activists will hold demonstrations on October 27, 29 and 30 next in protest against the chit fund, mining and dal scam, corruption in granting crop loan, misappropriation of agriculture input subsidy and non-payment of MSP to farmers during paddy procurement.

He alleged that BJD workers were awarded work under the Ama Gaon Ama Vikash scheme without inviting tender and ignoring the Gram Sabha, Palli Sabha, Sarpanch and Samiti members.

Dama Rout Calls Odisha CM Naveen A ‘Corrupt Leader’
After spewing venom against the ruling-BJD, former minister and senior leader Damodar Rout on Sunday trained his guns at the party president and Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik by calling him a ‘corrupt leader’.
While addressing a public meeting organised by Mayurbhanj Milita Kriyanusthan Committee in Baripada, Dama Rout said that CM Naveen does not know the names of all his party’s MLAs and even he is not aware of the number of Tehsils in the State.
The expelled BJD leader further said that corruption charges were levelled against CM Naveen’s private secretary VK Pandian; and Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself directed to the Odisha chief secretary for a probe, but nothing has been done so far.

BJP’s State General Secretary Bhrugu Baxipatra made sensational claims, which was later verified by the reporter of a TV Channel that at least 17 people have been killed in Gajapati district during Cyclone Titli.
