Mumbai police's Economic Offences Wing on Friday submitted a 32,000-page charge sheet against five persons in the multi-crore Punjab and Maharashtra Cooperative (PMC) Bank scam in a metropolitan magistrate court. The charge sheet has named former managing director of the bank Joy Thomas, former chairman Waryam Singh, former director of the bank Surjit Singh Arora, along with Housing Development and Infrastructure Limited (HDIL) promoters Rakesh Wadhawan and Sarang Wadhawan.

RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das on Friday said one should not use one incident to generalise the situation in the entire co-operative banking sector. He said the central bank would not allow any such bank to fail. Responding to a question on PMC Bank, a corporative bank in the eye of a storm, he said the central bank acted promptly and swiftly with the issue and that EOW is looking at the case. Das said RBI is in talks with the government on changing the regulations for co-operative banks. “RBI won’t allow a co-operative bank to collapse,” the Governor said, and appealed to depositors to not worry about banks.

MUMBAI: The Reserve Bank on Thursday enhanced the withdrawal limits for depositors of the scam-hit Punjab & Maharashtra Cooperative Bank to Rs 25,000 from Rs 10,000 per account over the next six month.

Even as the Mumbai Police on Monday filed an FIR against the PMC Bank, a confession letter by suspended managing director Joy Thomas has exposed just how comfortable the relationship between the bank and Wadhawan family had become over the years.According to the reports, PMC Bank did not report its exposure to Housing Development and Infrastructure Limited (HDIL) for six to seven years. How the auditors could be hoodwinked for such a long time is a case ripe for investigation.

MUMBAI: Based on the complaint given by a manager attached to the Bhandup branch of Punjab Maharashtra Cooperative (PMC) Bank, the Mumbai Police on Monday registered a First Information Report (FIR) in the matter. The case amongst others, has been registered against the bank's erstwhile chairman Waryam Singh, Managing Director Joy Joseph Thomas, promoters- Sarang and Rakesh Wadhawan of the Housing Development and Infrastructure Limited (HDIL) group and seven other realtor companies

The Reserve Bank on Tuesday imposed operational restrictions on Punjab and Maharashtra Co-operative Bank (PMC Bank), resulting in chaos outside its branches in the financial capital.As per the RBI directions to PMC Bank, withdrawals have been capped at Rs 1,000 per account and the bank is not allowed to make any fresh loans.The RBI monitors banks' health and issues such directions in case of concerns over financial health of an institution. However, no reasons were specified by the central bank for its restrictions on PMC Bank.
