Ranjan Gogoi has been sworn-in as the 46th Chief Justice of India by President Ram Nath Kovind at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, cabinet ministers and former PM Manmohan Singh were present for the oath-taking ceremony. Justice Gogoi was born on 18 November, 1954, in Assam's Dibrugarh district. He is the first person from the North-Eastern states to hold the post of Chief Justice of India.

-We have moved an impeachment motion seeking the removal of CJI Dipak Misra.
-We wish this day had never come in the fabric of our constitutional framework. Since the day he (Dipak Misra) was appointed as CJI there have been questions raised in the manner in which he has dealt with certain cases.
-When the judges of the Supreme Court themselves believe that the Judiciary's independence is at threat, alluding to the functioning of the office of the CJI, should the nation stand still and do nothing?.
