ഭയപ്പെടുത്തുന്ന നാട്
റഷ്യയിൽ ഗിസൽഡോൻ നദിയുടെ തീരത്തുള്ള റിപ്പബ്ലിക് ഓഫ് നോർത്ത് ഓസ്സെറ്റിയ-അലാനിയയിലെ പ്രിഗൊറോഡൊനി ജില്ലയിലെ ഒരു ഗ്രാമമാണ് ദർഗാവ്. ഈ ഗ്രാമത്തിൽ നിറയെ ശവകുടീരങ്ങളാണ്. ജീവിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നവർ ആരുമില്ലാത്ത ദർഗാവ് ഒരുപാടു മനുഷ്യരുടെ ഓർമകളും ദുരിതങ്ങളും പേറുന്നു.
പതിനേഴു കിലോമീറ്ററോളം വ്യാപിച്ചു കിടക്കുന്ന ഈ ഗ്രാമത്തിൽ നിറയെ വീടുകളുണ്ട്; വീടുകളിൽ നിറയെ മനുഷ്യരുടെ അസ്ഥികൂടങ്ങളും. മനുഷ്യർ, അവർ ഉടുത്ത വസ്ത്രങ്ങളോടെ തന്നെയാണ് ഇവിടെ അടക്കം ചെയ്യപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുന്നത്. നൂറോളം കല്ലുകൾ കൊണ്ടുള്ള ശവകുടീര വീടുകൾ ഇവിടെയുണ്ട്. പതിനെട്ടാം നൂറ്റാണ്ടിൽ ഇവിടെ പടർന്നു പിടിച്ച പ്ളേഗ് കാരണം ഈ നഗരം ഒറ്റപ്പെട്ടു പോയെന്നും ഇവിടെയുള്ള മനുഷ്യർ പുറത്തുള്ള മനുഷ്യരിൽനിന്നു സർവ ബന്ധവും വിച്ഛേദിക്കപ്പെട്ടവരായെന്നും പറയപ്പെടുന്നു. തുടർന്ന്, ഇവിടെ മരിച്ചവർ അവരുടെ വീടുകളിൽ അങ്ങനെ തന്നെ കിടന്നു. ചുരുക്കം പറഞ്ഞാൽ ഒരു മഹാമാരി തകർത്ത ഗ്രാമമാണിത്.
അൽബേർ കാമുവിന്റെ 'പ്ളേഗ്' വായിച്ചവർക്ക് ദർഗാവ് അനുഭവിച്ച വ്യഥകളെക്കുറിച്ചു കൃത്യമായി മനസ്സിലാകും. ഒരു ഗ്രാമത്തിലെ മനുഷ്യർ പ്ളേഗ് ബാധിതരാവുക, അവർക്കു ചുറ്റുമുള്ള നഗരങ്ങൾ അവർക്ക് നേരെ വാതിലുകൾ കൊട്ടിയടയ്ക്കുക, തുടർന്ന് ആ ഗ്രാമം ഒറ്റപ്പെടുക! ഇതിൽ കൂടുതൽ എന്താണ് ഒരു മഹാമാരിക്ക് ഒരു ഗ്രാമത്തിന്റെ സ്വച്ഛതയ്ക്കു മേൽ ചെയ്യാനാവുക
നാനൂറു വർഷം മുൻപുള്ള മനുഷ്യരുടെ സംസ്കാരങ്ങളെക്കുറിച്ചും അവരുടെ ജീവിതരീതികളെക്കുറിച്ചും ദർഗാവ് കൃത്യമായ വിവരങ്ങൾ നൽകുന്നുണ്ട്. നൂറ്റാണ്ടുകൾക്കു മുൻപ് ജീവിതം നിലച്ചു പോയ അതേ സംസ്കാരത്തിൽ തന്നെയാണ് ദര്‍ഗാവ് ഇപ്പോഴും എന്നതുകൊണ്ട് ചരിത്ര ഗവേഷകർക്ക് ഈ ഗ്രാമം അവരുടെ പഠനത്തിന്റെ കൂടി ഭാഗമാകുന്നു. പക്ഷേ ദർഗാവിനെ ചുറ്റിപ്പറ്റി മറ്റൊരു ഭയപ്പെടുത്തുന്ന കഥ കൂടിയുണ്ട്, ഈ ഗ്രാമത്തിലേക്കു വരുന്നവരാരും ജീവനോടെ തിരികെ പോകില്ലത്രേ! ഒരിക്കൽ ദർഗാവിൽ എത്തിയ ശേഷം മടങ്ങി വരാത്ത ഒരുപാടു പേരുണ്ടത്രേ ഈ ഗ്രാമത്തെ ചുറ്റിപ്പറ്റി ഒരുപാടു കഥകളും മിത്തുകളും ഉണ്ട്. സഞ്ചാരികളിൽ പലർക്കും അത്തരം അനുഭവങ്ങളുണ്ടെന്നും അവർ വെളിപ്പെടുത്തുന്നു.
