New Zealand made the best start possible and scored after 11 seconds through Steve Edwards. The Black Sticks kept up the pressure and pressed the Koreans high up the pitch. Korea earned the first PC of the game in the 20th minute and drew a good save from the keeper Devon Manchester. Hugo Inglis and Hyun Hye-sung both received green cards before the half finished 1-0.
Korea built up a head of steam in the second half were awarded a penalty stroke which New Zealand challenged with a video referral. Jang Jong-hyun stepped up to take the stroke but blasted his shot against the cross bar. Korea continued their momentum and hit the post minutes later and finally equalised in the 64th minute through Kim Seong-kyu. New Zealand won two penalty corners in quick succession with 3 minutes to play and Phil Burrows scored from the second to win the game 2-1 in dramatic fashion.

Korea finally broke the tense deadlock in the 30th minute through a fantastic flick finish from Darae Kim. The goal was the highlight of a hard fought half and Korea went into the break 1-0 up.
Korea continued on the front foot at the beginning of the second half and created a couple of good chances. Kayla Whitelock had New Zealand's second shot on target in the 45th minute which was comfortably saved by the Korean keeper. The Black Sticks had to wait 10 minutes for their next real chance which came from a penalty corner which Anita Punt fired wide with a drag flick. Korea then had two glorious opportunities to extend their lead but could not get capitalise on great crosses. However, the one goal advantage turned out to be enough for the Koreans to beat New Zealand and collect their first three points of the tournament.

"The host nation went up against New Zealand in the evening match of day 5 of the Rabobank Women's Hockey World Cup.
The Dutch made a blistering start and scored from their first penalty corner in the 4th minute with Carlien Dirkse van den Heuvel getting the deflection in front of goal in her 100th game for her nation. The Netherlands were completely controlling the game and New Zealand keeper Sally Rutherford was kept busy and had to make a number of great saves. It took a fantastic angled deflection from Kim Lammers to make it 2-0 to the Oranje with five minutes until half time.
The confident Dutch girls continued to control the game in the second half and peppered the goal with shots. Stacey Mitchelsen tested the Netherlands keeper with a powerful shot which was well saved in the Black Stick's best chance of the half. Xan de Waard then unselfishly passed to Kelly Jonker on a breakaway when she should have shot herself, but the 2-0 advantage was enough for the Netherlands to take all 3 points.

Day 6, game 3 and Argentina faced a tough task taking on unbeaten New Zealand. A win for the Lions would take them level on points and a win for the Kiwis would give them breathing space at the top.
The importance of the match was reflected in the tight nature of the first half. It was New Zealand though who shaded the half, with Simon Childs going closest, smashing an effort from distance onto the crossbar. Argentina had their keeper to thank later in the half when Vivaldi made a great save to deny Edwards a goal from close range.
The second half started with the game delicately poised at 0-0 and having failed to capitalise on their dominance in the first half, New Zealand were punished by Argentina when Gonzalo Peillat converted a penalty corner. New Zealand responded well to that disappointment though and equalised when Burrows free hit was deflected in off Stephen Jenness. The Argentinians, however, looked determined to punish New Zealand's profligacy in front of goal in the first half and Peillat was on target again just moments later from another penalty goal. Peillat wasn't finished there though and his habit of scoring from penalty corners continued and 10 minutes later heaped more misery on the Lions, completing his hattrick and moving Argentina level on points with New Zealand.

"Day 9 of the Rabobank Hockey World Cup and we see, in Women's Pool A, New Zealand take on Australia, in a clash between the two neighbors.
1st half and it was all New Zealand who dominated the game creating most of the chances. Including when, Forgesson made a run on the wing, and her pass was met by Olivia Merry, whose was closed down quickly by Rachel Lynch. New Zealand were close again when Punt surged up on the wing, using here impressive pace, to work the ball in the D, and it was all set up for Krystal Forgesson to shoot at goal, but her shot went wide of the post.
2nd Half, and It liked Australia managed to gain the lead when they were awarded Free-Hit outside D and Flanagan's shot was met by Emily Hurtz and the ball went in. However New Zealand contested the decision, ruling that the ball was not on the line when the Free-Hit was taken. This was checked by the Video Referee and this was deemed No Goal. New Zealand did have a chance to grab a last chance goal, but Webster show was deflected wide of the post, and it pretty much summed up an action pack game but both teams failed to break each other down. 0-0 final result.

"Host nation the Netherlands went into their last Pool B game against New Zealand knowing they could climb above Argentina at the top with a win or draw.
The Dutch side took only eight minutes to take a 1-0 lead with Valentin Verga finishing a reverse stick effort. In the 25th minute, the Netherlands thought they had increased their lead but a Seve van Ass goal was ruled out after a video referral showed the ball brushed his foot.
New Zealand came close to an equaliser early in the second half but Alex Shaw could not stretch far enough to get his stick onto a pass into the circle. It took a great piece of individual skill from Simon Child to put New Zealand level at 1-1 in the 63rd minute when he skipped past three tackles, swivelled, and fired past the keeper. The Dutch couldn't find a winner and the draw meant they had to settle with second place in the group and will face Australia in the semi-finals.

The start of the game was balanced and produced very little scoring opportunities with only two shots on target coming from Korea after 20 minutes. Korea finally broke the deadlock in the 32nd minute through a field goal from Kim Jong-eun and the game went into the half time break at 1-0.
It only took two minutes from the restart for Japan to make the score 1-1 from their first penalty corner of the tournament with Shihori Oikawa finishing from the top of the circle. Both teams then had good chances saved as the game opened up. Korea ended the game putting a lot of pressure on the Japanese defence, but could not find a way through to win the match and keep up with Australia and the Netherlands at the top of Pool A.

"Winless Japan and Belgium faced each other in their last pool game of the 2014 Rabobank Women's Hockey World Cup.
The match got off to a slow start with both teams failing to create many chances. Japan had the better chances but could not connect to passes into the circle to take the lead. Half time arrived with the teams tied at 0-0.
The second half began more promisingly with Belgium going 1-0 ahead in the 37th minute with Emilie Sinia scoring through the legs of the Japanese keeper. Japan equalised seven minutes later with Ayaka Nishimura scoring an overhead volley from close range. Akane Shibata then bravely dived in to score Japan's second to put her nation 2-1 up in the 63rd minute. Four minutes later, Belgium were back level after a great finish from Manon Simons. The 2-2 draw ensured Japan finished above Belgium in the Pool A standings.

"Round 4 of Pool A saw Japan looking for their first win up against New Zealand at the 2014 Rabobank Women's Hockey World Cup.
New Zealand got off to the perfect start and went up 1-0 in the 5th minute through a Sophie Cocks deflection from a penalty corner. The Black Sticks held onto the lead to reach the break one goal up.
The second half got off to a flyer with New Zealand scoring twice within three minutes of the restart. Firstly, Anita Punt scored from a penalty corner high into the net and then Katie Glynn made it 3-0 less than a minute later after a scramble in the circle. Yuri Nagai pulled a goal back for Japan in the 51st minute after her team-mate won a bully. There was no way back for Japan though and Anita Punt scored her second of the game in the 68th minute to give New Zealand the 4-1 win.
