Gurdaspur/Patiala, Punjab (March 29, 2012): Punjab police today opened fire on Sikhs who had gathered at a Gurudwara Sahib in Gurdaspur to prevent right wing Hindu organization Shiv Sena from burning effigy of Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana, a Sikh political prisoner who is on death row.
2 Sikhs protesting peacefully were shot when police fired on those assembled near Ramgarhia Gurdwara on Tibri road in Gurdaspur this morning. Curfew was later clamped in the town in view of the tension.
Jaspal Singh (18) of Sidhwan Jamita village near Gurdaspur died after he was shot at by Punjab police. He was a student of Beant College, Gurdaspur.
A very young Ranjeet Singh Mandher, only 16 years old, son of Jaswinder Singh, from village Pandher (Mukerian road). Punjab police shot him & left him laying there bleeding. He had to take his own rickshaw to the hospital. From there the hospital in Gurdaspur sent him to Amritsar.
The Government in Punjab has tightened it's grip on Sikh organizations and Sikh leaders with more than two hundred arrests but did nothing to prevent Hindu right wing organizations like Shiv Sena and it's activists.

In June 1984 Indira Gandhi sent more then 100,000 soldiers into Punjab for a showdown with Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale and the Sikhs.
She thought that the Sikhs would fall on their knees and beg for mercy by seeing so much soldiers.
But no, the Sikhs fought so gallantly that only a handful of them fought against more then 4,000 soldiers in the Holiest Shrine of the Sikhs in Amritsar for 5 full days.
When all means had failed the Indian army bombed the battlefield and threw chemical gas into the Holiest Shrine plus attacking the Shrine with tanks.
Only then the Sikhs could be defeated. What a great injustice was done in the so called secular India.
What Bhindranwale did for the Sikhs will never be forgotten. He gave the world an example of how a Sikh of Guru Gobind Singh Ji should be.

A very young Ranjeet Singh Mandher, only 16 years old, son of Jaswinder Singh, from village Pandher (Mukerian road). Punjab police shot him & left him laying there bleeding. He had to take his own rickshaw to the hospital. From there the hospital in Gurdaspur sent him to Amritsar.
