इजरायल (Israel) में बीते शनिवार को एक म्यूजिक फेस्टिवल के दौरान हमास (Hamas) के आतंकियों ने हमला कर दिया था। हमास ने इजरायल के इतिहास में ये सबसे घातक आतंकवादी हमला किया। सुरक्षा कैमरों से ली गई फुटेज (Footage) में भारी हथियारों से लैस हमास के आतंकी 7 अक्टूबर को दक्षिणी इज़राइल के किबुत्ज़ बेरी (Kibbutz Be'eri ) में आते हुए दिखाई दे रहे हैं। हमास के आतंकवादी किबुत्ज़ बेरी में मोटरसाइकिलों और दूसरे वाहनों पर घूम रहे थे और बंदूकें लहरा रहे थे जिसका वीडियो सीसीटीवी में कैद हो गया। हमास के आतंकियों ने मजाद कार से एक शव को निकालते और तीन अन्य शवों को एक सफेद वाहन में रखते हुए दिखाई दे रहे हैं। गाजा के स्वास्थ्य मंत्रालय ने कहा कि इजरायल के जवाबी हमले में कम से कम 770 लोग मारे गए और 4,000 से अधिक घायल हो गए।

यरुशलम में हुई झड़पों में अब तक 200 से अधिक फ़लस्तीनी और 20 इसराइली पुलिसकर्मी घायल हो चुके हैं... इसराइल और फ़लस्तीन के बीच दशकों से संघर्ष चलता चला आ रहा है और ताज़ा हिंसा महीनों से जारी तनाव का नतीजा है... दरअसल यह 100 साल से भी पुराना मुद्दा है। पहले विश्व युद्ध में उस्मानिया सल्तनत की हार के बाद मध्य-पूर्व में फ़लस्तीन के नाम से पहचाने जाने वाले हिस्से को ब्रिटेन ने अपने कब्जे में ले लिया था। इस ज़मीन पर अल्पसंख्यक यहूदी और बहुसंख्यक अरब बसे हुए थे। दोनों के बीच तनाव तब शुरू हुआ जब अंतरराष्ट्रीय समुदाय ने ब्रिटेन को यहूदी लोगों के लिए फ़लस्तीन को एक 'राष्ट्रीय घर' के तौर पर स्थापित करने का काम सौंपा। यहूदियों के लिए यह उनके पूर्वजों का घर है जबकि फ़लस्तीनी अरब भी इस पर दावा करते रहे हैं और इस क़दम का विरोध किया था। 1920 से 1940 के बीच यूरोप में उत्पीड़न और दूसरे विश्व युद्ध के दौरान होलोकॉस्ट से बचकर भारी संख्या में यहूदी एक मातृभूमि की चाह में यहाँ पर पहुँचे थे। इसी दौरान अरबों और यहूदियों और ब्रिटिश शासन के बीच हिंसा भी शुरू हुई। 1947 में संयुक्त राष्ट्र में फ़लस्तीन को यहूदियों और अरबों के अलग-अलग राष्ट्र में बाँटने को लेकर मतदान हुआ और यरुशलम को एक अंतरराष्ट्रीय शहर बनाया गया। पर अरब पक्ष ने इसको खारिज कर दिया और यह कभी लागू नहीं हो पाया।
