The edtech companies are the worst-hit among all startups as funding dries up because of the recession, among other reasons, forcing them to lay off employees.
According to a survey, Indian startups have already laid off nearly 10,000 employees this year—about one-third of those are from the EdTech industry. In many cases, these are teachers and educators that have been working from home during the pandemic, when the prospects of startups were booming.

The Unified Payments Interface has emerged as a favourite digital payment choice by the citizens. Today, UPI has over 26 crore unique users and 5 crore merchants. UPI’s two factors of authentication i.e., device binding and UPI PIN, is going to be applicable. UPI executed 594.63 crore transactions worth a total of Rs 10.40 lakh crore in May 2022 alone.
Now, UPI is all set to make the plastic cards in the payments process obsolete. In a move to broaden the scope of digital payments in the country, the Reserve Bank of India has allowed credit cards to be linked with UPI for payments. Currently, only savings and current accounts can be linked to UPI platforms to allow transactions.
This move offers more convenience to the users as they can use their mobile phones to make a payment while availing the benefits of a credit card. Till now, only debit cards connected to savings bank accounts and current accounts are allowed to link up to the UPI platform.

The retail inflation number in April remained high due to the low base effect, worsened by price jumps across all major commodity groups. The Consumer Price Index (CPI)-based inflation, which the RBI takes as a reference point while deciding on the monetary policy, in April 2022 soared to an eight-year high of 7.79 per cent. It is as compared with 4.23 per cent in April 2021 and 6.97 per cent in March 2022. Core inflation, which excludes changes in food and oil prices, in April also touched a 95-month high at 6.97 per cent. It has remained over 5 per cent for 24 consecutive months. Inflation in the food basket rose to 8.38 per cent in April, from 7.68 per cent in the preceding month and 1.96 per cent in the year-ago month. High price levels of fuel and food items, especially of vegetables, spices and oils/fats, along with household services, contributed to the sharp rise in inflation, a level which is seen as being partly responsible for preempting the unscheduled repo rate hike of 40 basis points by the RBI last week. Among states, the highest inflation rate was recorded by West Bengal, followed by Madhya Pradesh and Telangana. Core inflation — the non-food, non-fuel component of inflation — in April also touched a 95-month high of 6.97 per cent, remaining more than 5 per cent for 24 consecutive months.
Experts say, the base effect may moderate inflation levels in May but it is still expected to remain above 6.5 per cent, raising expectations of a back-to-back rate hike in the June monetary policy meeting of the RBI. Ransomware payments hit new records in 2021 as cybercriminals increasingly turned to Dark Web “leak sites” where they pressured victims to pay up by threatening to release sensitive data, according to research released from Unit 42 by Palo Alto Networks. The average ransom demand in cases worked by Unit 42 incident responders rose 144% in 2021 to $2.2 million, while the average payment climbed 78% to $541,010, according to the 2022 Unit 42 Ransomware Threat Report. The most affected industries were Professional and Legal Services, Construction, Wholesale and Retail, Healthcare, and Manufacturing. In 2021, ransomware attacks interfered with everyday activities that people all over the world take for granted – everything from buying groceries, purchasing gasoline for cars to calling emergency numbers in the event of an emergency and obtaining medical care. The Conti ransomware group was responsible for the most activity, accounting for more than 1 in 5 of cases worked by Unit 42 consultants in 2021. A recent news flashed that the personal data of thousands of people in India was leaked from a government server that included their personal details, whereas the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has brushed off allegations that the government's vaccination portal Covid Vaccine Intelligent Network or CoWIN has been hacked. Whereas, the National Health Authority (NHA) has denied any Covid-related data leak from the Co-WIN portal on a prima facie basis, saying the platform neither collects the address of people nor RT-PCR test results for vaccination, a top official said. This was not the first time that an alleged hack of the CoWIN platform was reported. The question is why the health ministry has immediately downplayed the claim as baseless, although it had tapped the government's counter-hacking body Computer Emergency Response Team to look into the matter.
