A recent news flashed that the personal data of thousands of people in India was leaked from a government server that included their personal details, whereas the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has brushed off allegations that the government's vaccination portal Covid Vaccine Intelligent Network or CoWIN has been hacked. Whereas, the National Health Authority (NHA) has denied any Covid-related data leak from the Co-WIN portal on a prima facie basis, saying the platform neither collects the address of people nor RT-PCR test results for vaccination, a top official said. This was not the first time that an alleged hack of the CoWIN platform was reported. The question is why the health ministry has immediately downplayed the claim as baseless, although it had tapped the government's counter-hacking body Computer Emergency Response Team to look into the matter.
There have been several media reports claiming that the data stored in the Co-WIN portal has been leaked online. The leaked data reportedly was put on sale on a website called Raid Forums. A post claimed to have personal data of over 20,000 people. The data on that website shows name, age, gender, mobile number, address, date and result of Covid-19 report of accounts. Cyber Security researcher Rajshekhar Rajaharia also tweeted that personally identifiable information (PII) including name and Covid-19 results are made public through a content delivery network. He has claimed that Google has indexed lakhs of data points from the affected system. Cybercriminals on the dark web had posted the personal data of thousands of people, claiming they were from India. ‘Web 3.0′ envisions a decentralised future where users and machines are able to interact with data via smart, digital contracts over peer-to-peer networks, without the need for Big Tech. Digital assets like Bitcoin, Ether, Solana, etc are the fuel of the future financial ecosystem and Web 3.0. According to the report by crypto and digital asset exchange CrossTower in partnership with US-India Strategic Partnership Forum, the digital asset economy’s value to India’s GDP will grow at 43.1% CAGR— from $5.1 billion in 2021 to $261.8 billion over an 11-year period, resulting in a $1.1 trillion contribution to India’s GDP. Digital asset market capitalisation was nearly $1.5 billion in 2013, and stands at about $3 trillion today. As per the reports, most of $1.1 trillion in the total economic growth in the next 11 years can come from ancillary digital asset-related businesses that are yet to be invented. India is poised for growth to become a $5 trillion economy by 2024-25. Digital assets are expected to have tremendous potential in the next 11 years across countries, due to their rapid adoption. Satellite Communication has become widespread and ubiquitous throughout the country for diverse applications catering to the sectors which are irreplaceable in serving the nation's interest. Satellite internet is a broadband internet service that uses radio waves to transmit the internet from an ISP hub to your satellite receiver dish which is attached with a modem to provide internet access. Some like SpaceX use lasers instead of radio waves to transmit the data. The radio waves are reflected in the receiver by geosynchronous low-Earth orbit (LEO) satellites that are in a fixed position in the sky. The data is transmitted to the satellite. Satellite internet could be the next big step in internet connectivity. Once a fleet of satellites is in orbit, companies would only need to set up the satellite receiver and modem to provide access to the internet from almost any corner of the world. There is no need for cables or other ground-based infrastructure at the customer’s access point. It would stand to revolutionise internet access the same way that the satellite DTH broadcasting services did for television access in India.

Global debt has jumped to a new high
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) said global debt has jumped to a new high of $226 trillion with India’s dues projected to rise to 90.6 per cent in 2021, due to COVID-19 and policies put in place to respond to it. Advanced economies and China contributed over 90% to the accumulation of debt in 2020 and the remaining emerging economies and low-income developing countries contributed only around seven per cent. India's debt increased to 89.6% of its GDP in 2020 from 68.9% in 2016. This increase is, by far, the largest on record. This figure includes both public and non-financial private sector debt. The remaining emerging economies and low-income developing countries contributed only around seven percent. It is projected to jump to 90.6 percent in 2021 and then decline to 88.8 percent in 2022, to gradually reach 85.2 percent in 2026. The IMF said risks to the fiscal outlook are elevated. A scaling up of vaccine production and delivery, especially to emerging markets and low-income developing countries, would limit further damage to the global economy.
Constraints on financing are particularly severe for poorer countries. Noting that in 2020, fiscal policy proved its worth, he said the increase in public debt, in 2020, was fully justified by the need to respond to COVID-19 and its economic, social, and financial consequences. But the increase is expected to be one-off. After that it is projected to stabilise at about 97 percent of GDP. The household debt as a percentage of gross domestic product may have declined to 34% in the first quarter of 2021-22 with the commensurate rise in GDP in the first quarter, though it has increased in absolute terms, the household debt has increased to Rs 75 lakh crore in the first quarter of FY22 from Rs 73.59 lakh crore in FY21, a report of State Bank of India's Research says. The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in a spike in household debt to the GDP rate. As per the report, it rose sharply to 37.3 percent in 2020-21 from 32.5 percent in 2019-20.
The good thing is that in rural India, the share of outstanding cash debt from non-institutional credit agencies has declined significantly to 34% in 2018 from 44%in 2012. Notably, almost all states have registered a steep decline in non-institutional credit in rural areas, indicating the increase in formalisation of the economy. The share of non-institutional credit has declined significantly in the case of Bihar, West Bengal, Rajasthan, Haryana and Gujarat. In Haryana and Rajasthan, which witnessed loan waiver schemes, the share of non-institutional credit declined contrary to popular perception, it said. This could be explained by a significant increase in penetration of KCC (Kisan Credit Cards) in these two states. The number of KCC cards has jumped by 5 times over the 7 year period ended 2020. The report believes that the recent reforms in agriculture could further help in the formalisation of the economy, despite the political cacophony.

Can India become the 5G manufacturing powerhouse?
India is at the cusp of a digital revolution powered by increasing broadband and internet penetration, exponential data uptake, the Government’s focus on digitalisation and increasing trend of technology adoption across industries. 5G networks offer the potential to transform industrial sectors and deliver significant social and economic benefits in India. mmWave spectrum in particular will play a crucial role in enabling the high-speed and ultra-low-latency features required by many 5G applications. India will benefit significantly from mmWave-enabled 5G. Over the period 2025–2040, we estimate that mmWave-enabled 5G will deliver $150 billion in additional GDP for India. The manufacturing sector will see the greatest impact, accounting for about a fifth. The healthcare sector will also benefit greatly from mmWave-enabled 5G, with an impact of approximately $4 billion.
The Indian market faces key challenges that are hindering operators’ capacity to invest in new technologies. While smartphone adoption has soared in the past three years and India is forecast to become the second largest smartphone market in the world by 2025, the market has some of the lowest ARPU levels globally and operators some of the highest levels of debt. 5G will enable new use cases not possible with previous technological standards. One of the factors that will favour us in becoming a 5G manufacturing powerhouse is the backlash towards Chinese telecom gear makers. Nearly all the developed and underdeveloped nations are running away and barring Chinese gear makers in their 5G development. The benefit of backlash is being enjoyed by competitors like Ericsson and Nokia. It would be too early to assume that India is set to become a 5G manufacturing powerhouse. 5G could be the answer to the digital aspirations harboured by the industry and our society.

Since last year, the COVID-19 pandemic changed the way India and the world lived, shopped, conducted business, socialised, and even litigated. Indians are getting accustomed to virtual court hearings, online shopping, education, doctors’ consultations, and telemedicine galore. Everything in the world is moving towards ITeS, which increasingly requires faster data speed. In the last ten years, through 4G, the mobile app industry has advanced rapidly around services like video streaming, ridesharing, food delivery etc. Next, 5G will expand the mobile ecosystem to new sectors. As per a survey, during the H2 of 2020, the average Indian data consumption per month, the highest globally, is about 12 GB. It is likely to rise further to about 25 GB per month in the next five years, driven by affordable mobile broadband services, changing video viewing habits majorly due to Covid-19 Pandemic.
In the realm of the country’s technological innovations, 5G will further strengthen Digital India, Smart Cities and Smart Village missions for India. Smart cities could use 5G for automotive safety, infrastructure, VR, and entertainment. In domestic use, 5G would change home internet service by providing a wireless modem alternative to existing wires. The survey finds that the total number of mobile broadband subscriptions is set to exceed 1 billion by 2025. The number of smartphone subscriptions increased to 620 million in 2019 which is expected to grow at a CAGR of 9%, reaching 1 billion by 2025. 5G networks offer to deliver significant social and economic benefits in India. Over the period 2023–2040, the experts forecast that 5G technologies will make a total contribution of approximately 450 billion dollars to the Indian economy -- 0.6% of GDP—by 2040.

बीते शुक्रवार को RBI ने 2000 रुपए के नोट को सर्कुलेशन यानी चलन से बाहर करने का फैसला किया और जो 2000 रुपए के नोट अभी बाजार में है उसे 30 सितंबर 2023 तक भारत की दूसरी करेंसी के साथ बदलने या बैंक में जमा करवाने के निर्देश दिए हैं, यानी 30 सितंबर तक यह नोट सर्कुलेशन में बने रहेंगे यानी लीगल टेंडर बने रहेंगे। 30 सितंबर के बाद यह चलन से बाहर हो जाएंगे क्योंकि 2016 में नोटबंदी के बाद जिस मकसद के साथ यह नोट बाजार में उतारा गया था वो अब पूरा हो चुका है।
