After stunning Sri Lanka in the very first match of the tournament, Namibia found themselves in a tight spot following their defeat at the hands of the Netherlands in the previous match. In order to qualify for the super 12 of the competition, the game will be mandatory for them to win. UAE, on the other hand, looked pretty average in their first two matches of the T20 World Cup. First, they lost to the Netherlands and then Sri Lanka completely bamboozled their batting order in the next match. Now, even though mathematically they are still alive in the competition, it will be a miracle if they manage to turn things in their favour.
While taking on UAE, Namibia will not only think about the win but will also concentrate to improve their strike rate. As things stand, they are far ahead of their competitors in terms of strike rate but a lot can change in the third game. However, the team would want to focus on the win first. Their top order has been pretty shambolic in the first two encounters and thus the pressure falls on the middle order to take charge. Against an ordinary-looking bowling attack of UAE, the Gerhard Erasmus-led side would look to change that and merch onto their second Super 12 in successive years. When it comes to bowling, they have done reasonably well so far in the competition. Be it with the bat or with the bowl, JJ Smit and Jan Frylinck have been terrific for the African nation.
Coming to UAE, the team showed a lot of promise in the build-up but could never match the pace in the T20 World Cup. They lacked confidence and fitness-wise, they were below far. Their conservative attitude is something that the team management needs to address. Their lack of match practice in Australian conditions is also something that has been noticed in the tournament. Now, all they need to do is play some fearless cricket to entertain the crowd and send a strong message to their competitors.

Namibia and Ireland are set to lock horns in Match No.11 of the T20 World Cup Qualifiers on Friday, October 22 at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium in Sharjah. Ireland, led by Andrew Balbirnie, started their campaign on a resounding note, beating Netherlands by seven wickets after Curtis Campher’s hat-trick.
However, they lost to Sri Lanka by 70 runs on Wednesday. Namibia, on the other hand, made a strong comeback as they defeated Netherlands by six wickets. The upcoming game is a knockout. The team, who wins the game, goes through to the Super 12 along with Dasun Shanaka’s Sri Lanka.
Paul Stirling is someone, who has loads of experience under his belt, having plied his trade for more than a decade. The right-hander prefers to take on the opposition bowling from the word go. In the first game against Netherlands, he smashed an unbeaten 30. But against the Lankans, he faltered to some extent. He will look to make an impact.

Sri Lanka and Namibia are set to lock horns in Match No.4 of the T20 World Cup Qualifiers on Monday, October 18 at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi. The Lankans have had a decent run of form of late. To start with, they defeated Zeeshan Maqsood’s Oman in the two-match ODI series.
Thereafter, they defeated Sri Lanka by four runs in the first warmup game and then defeated PNG by 39 runs. Namibia, on the other hand, lost both their warm-up games to Oman and Scotland respectively. However, they had a decent run of form in the Summer T20 Bash earlier this month.
The pitch in Abu Dhabi has generally been good for batting. But at the international level, the venue has witnessed low-scoring affairs. The track, however, has helped the chasing teams. Batting second should be the way forward.
Avishka Fernando generally opens the batting for Sri Lanka in T20Is, but in the games against Oman, he came in the middle-order. However, the change in position didn’t ruffle him by any means. He scored an unbeaten 81 in the first game and also played fluently in the second match. Fernando also played at a strike rate of 150.64.
