Indian CISOs (Chief Information Security Officers) said they struggle at some level to get support from the executive board for the resources needed to maintain cybersecurity strength. As their role defines, CISOs are responsible for protecting their organizations' sensitive data and systems from a wide range of threats, including hacking, malware, phishing, and other #cyberattacks.
A report says, about 62 per cent of #CISOs think their jobs would be easier if all employees across the entire business were better aware of the challenges of cybersecurity. In addition, 30 percent of CISOs cite a lack of skilled talent on their team as a primary challenge.
Another survey among 1,000 Indian business leaders reveals that while they know using data is important to their business, the vast majority aren’t harnessing its power for better decision-making and business results.
Experts admit that the most difficult challenge to #cybersecurity is adapting to a remote workforce. With more and more companies around the world turning to remote work, there are new risks in cybersecurity that have emerged. Companies must now invest in solutions that protect their systems from attacks outside their networks.

#WorldwideITspending is projected to reach $4.6 trillion in 2023 according to the latest forecast by Gartner. This represents an increase of 5.5% from the previous year. The projected growth is primarily driven by enterprise software and cloud services, as well as continued investment in IT infrastructure such as servers, storage, and networking equipment.
The COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated the shift towards digital transformation and remote work, which is expected to continue to drive IT spending in the coming years. However, there are also concerns about potential supply chain disruptions and inflationary pressures that could impact IT spending.
IT spending will remain strong, even as many countries are projected to have near-flat gross domestic product growth and high inflation in 2023. Prioritization will be critical as CIOs look to optimize spend while using digital technology to transform the company’s value proposition, revenue and client interactions.

Many enterprises are adopting #SASEtechnology. SASE (Secure Access Service Edge) provides a comprehensive, cloud-native, and hybrid networking & security solution that integrates various network security functions with WAN capabilities such as SD-WAN and cloud connectivity.
SASE has gained popularity in recent years as businesses seek to adopt more flexible and scalable network security solutions that can accommodate the increasing number of remote workers and cloud-based applications. SASE provides a cloud-native and hybrid networking and security solution that offers a unified and consistent security posture across all endpoints and cloud applications.
The shift towards cloud-based applications and services has made traditional security models, such as perimeter-based security less effective, and SASE provides a more flexible and agile approach to security.

Remote work becomes the soft target for hackers. For many businesses, hybrid and remote working has become the norm in recent years and organisations have shifted towards cloud-based applications and services to enable this. Malicious actors are intensifying attacks on critical cloud infrastructure with new, sophisticated approaches.
But while this shift has been effective for productivity and improving employee happiness, hybrid working also comes with additional #cybersecurity risks that organisations might not be thinking about -- and that's making life easier for cyber criminals.
Cloud migration takes such threats to the next level because sometimes it is not a well-thought move. However, when it comes to individual targets, phishing attacks continue to emerge with much more sophistication and advancement. Nowadays, simple tricks used earlier in phishing are replaced with highly customized, genuine-looking targeted attacks.
Phishing Gets More Sophisticated — Phishing attacks, in which carefully targeted digital messages are transmitted to fool people into clicking on a link that can then install malware or expose sensitive data, are becoming more sophisticated.
The biggest, most damaging and most widespread threat facing small businesses are phishing attacks. Phishing accounts for 90% of all breaches that organizations face, they've grown 65% over the last year, and they account for over $12 billion in business losses.
Sometimes, even the professionals working in security/law enforcement, etc. get duped by such attacks. Population scale percolation of UPI and innocence of users lead to unfortunate events of siphoning out their hard-earned money. On the other hand, for business houses, small or large, the primary threat of #ransomware continues to emerge further along with data theft.
Every technology you name is under the attack. A connected world offers new opportunities for cybercriminals to gath

A report from #Linkedin on State of Sales APAC 2022 says that the rising #remotework culture has accelerated the proliferation of sales technology. The pandemic disrupted the sales process permanently and positively, with 81% of buyers in India agreeing that working remotely is making buying easier.
There is a continued rise of sales technology and data-driven selling. In today’s predominantly digital era, 4 in 5 (81%) buyers in India feel that remote work has made buying easier today. Sellers too have felt this pull, with every 1 in 5 (22%) clocking deals worth $500,000 or above without ever meeting the buyer in-person.
With the number of sales professionals without any remote work experience dropping to one-fourth during the pandemic, it is evident that remote working is here to stay. Top performers are thriving due to their intelligent use of technology and data-driven selling.
The survey indicates younger sales professionals are placing a higher emphasis on soft skills, so they can develop closer relationships with their buyers or clients and close better deals. The survey also reveals that the ability to build trust is the most important factor for closing deals among younger (under 35 years) sales professionals (21%), as compared to older (over 35 years) professionals who prioritise metrics like ROI (16%) and price (17%).
Companies are increasing their appetite for data-based insights to better gauge buyer intent and drive greater sales. This is especially true amidst the ongoing Great Reshuffle when buyers and sellers are constantly considering shifting roles. In fact, more than 8 in 10 (84%) sales professionals in India have lost at least one deal to an important decision maker changing roles in the past year alone.
Therefore, access to the right intel has become mission-critical for sales functions across the board. The report further reveals that top performers are also more likely to leverage these insight

Zero Trust Security is Enabling the future to be ready with the growing threats | VARINDIA News Hour
Tech is the most important enabler of remote work, but it hasn’t been without issues. Respondents from a survey were hopeful that IT would prioritize new hardware in 2022 (26%) along with modernizing the service desk to improve IT service levels (26%). Among IT professionals, the desire for modernizing the service desk rises to 32%. While the remote working environment has mitigated random walk-up IT requests from users, it has also challenged organizations that don’t have streamlined request/fulfilment processes and wide access to knowledge and other resources for self-service. Hundreds of thousands of employees will be returning to the offices globally as COVID restrictions are lifted and millions of new positions have been created and filled since February 2020, meaning that IT Departments will be inundated with thousands of new devices coming onto their networks for the first time. Many employees will have onboarded remotely, others will have allowed family members to use their devices, and more will have undoubtedly accessed vulnerable public networks. As a result, the risk of overprivileged devices accessing corporate resources will be huge in the coming weeks. If phones and laptops are brought into the office without a thorough security check, any malware on them could erupt into the entire network. It may also be the first time that many organizations have had the chance to properly manage and audit devices of those who have left employment during the past year.
Additionally, with best-in-class contextual automation and cybersecurity technologies, enterprises can proactively and predictably detect issues, and then self-heal and self-secure devices. A zero trust security framework clearly offers the most efficient and cost-effective way to secure the Everywhere Workplace. At its simplest, zero trust security enables organizations to continual

Hybrid work model to continue in 2022 | Digital | VARINDIA News Hour
Remote work was once considered a luxury to many and some workers were able to thrive in a remote setting, while others felt isolated and struggled to keep up a balance between their work and home lives. Now hybrid working is the current challenge for employers and employees – figuring out the right mix of in-person and remote work to meet the needs of a wide group of stakeholders. Flexible work is a key need for employees today, and just what that flexibility looks like is complex. Moving into 2022, ways of working and interacting are continuing to evolve as organisations adapt to the ongoing changes brought about by a wide range of factors influenced by the COVID-19 pandemic. Thus, two years after the world abruptly shifted to widespread adoption of remote work, declaring 2022 “The Year of Hybrid Work,” as workers and companies attempt to regain some sense of normalcy, improve work/life balance, and reconnect with co-workers while still retaining some of the benefits of hybrid work. There are a lot of benefits to remote work — no commute, more flexibility in the day, fewer distractions and interruptions — but for many there are also a lot of downsides, like social isolation, lack of motivation, and difficulty maintaining a good balance between their work and personal lives.
The main benefit of hybrid work is that it offers employees the flexibility to work in the style that suits them best. People who thrive in an office setting could go into the office every day, people who really do well working at home can continue doing that, or people could opt for a mix of the two which can result in greater creativity and happier employees. Now the challenge is a great number of resignations has seen employees demand more humanistic policies and practices and employers recognise that to retain their people they need to become truly people-centric – employees want to see real changes arou

There has been a huge spike in the number of job postings mentioning both ‘remote work’ and ‘hybrid work’, according to GlobalData. The report highlights that jobs featuring the key word ‘remote work’ saw highs with listings increase by 23% in Q3 2021 compared to Q2 2021, while ‘hybrid work’ saw a 464% increase in Q3 2021, compared to the previous quarter. Remote and hybrid working models are the future of work as job seekers look for flexibility. These models are also beneficial to companies, removing spatial boundaries in terms of finding talent and potentially increasing the number of job applicants. Further, flexible working could be useful in countries where the impending threat of another wave of COVID-19 cannot be ruled out. “Experts say, compared to jobs related to ‘remote work’, ‘hybrid work’ was the star of the show in Q3 2021. This model has grown exponentially - particularly since June 2021.
Hiring within the ‘future of work’ theme is also seeing an increase. Over 43,000 job postings in Q3 2021 were related to this theme, with more companies adopting technology and changing workflow. The hybrid work model is largely being used in the healthcare, financial, consumer, and tech sectors – according to job advertisements. Among the companies that are listing jobs with hybrid work are The New York Times, Harvard University Disability Resources (UDR), and Cisco Systems. With a new style of working naturally comes the development of tech to help smoothen the transition. For example, Microsoft is hiring a ‘Senior Director’ for Microsoft Teams to build collaborative applications. Further, KPMG International Cooperative is leveraging the latest Microsoft cloud features to enhance hybrid work experiences, as suggested by its advertised role: ‘Director Modern Workplace Product Management - FY22’.

Working remotely- Professionals feel burnout
A study was conducted by LinkedIn, in its ‘Future of Work’ perception which focuses on the insights of 1,108 respondents in the age group of 16 to 68, who have worked from home during the pandemic due to COVID-19 restrictions. The survey captures the sentiment of the Indian workforce towards the impact of remote work, their plans to return to work, and work model preferences for the future. The study dives deep to understand how working remotely is leading to burnout amongst professionals in India and leaving them hopeful for an office reboot. Top findings of the survey reveal that 86% of professionals in India believe that a hybrid work model will help them strike the right balance between their personal and professional lives. 1 in 3 professionals report burnout; 9 in 10 say going hybrid can bring back work-life balance
Looking into the future, the Indian workforce is convinced that a hybrid work model can alleviate their distress and help them disconnect. The study further shows that nearly 9 in 10 (86%) respondents think that hybrid work will positively impact their work-life balance. When asked why, 48% stated that a hybrid model would allow them to spend equal time on their personal goals and professional lives. Long-term remote work has left professionals fatigued in India. This has caused a shift in the idea of what is important in our lives and has led to what we call ‘The Great Talent Reshuffle’. Organizations are rethinking their entire work models, culture, and values, while employees are rethinking not just how they work, but why they work.

Cybercrime - greatest threat to every company
Mobile data, free internet access and remote work make us flexible – and a target for attacks. Many employees know little about IT security, and often become victims of cyber-attacks unbeknownst to them. Protecting a company against cyber-attacks needs more than technical measures. The ‘human factor’ is one of the most important components of a successful IT security system. It is therefore key to sensitise each employee to the importance of IT security – and the most effective way to achieve that is by turning it into a game, letting the learner experience scenarios they can recognise in an immersive environment. Now it is evident that any software can be hacked if you do not deploy security measures and follow best practices. Cybersecurity is now a frequent issue for companies. Websites get hacked every day and some of those hacks are fatal to the business.
Ransomware attacks have become popular in the last few years and pose one of India’s most prominent Cyber Security challenges in 2020. According to the Cyber Security firm Sophos, about 82% of Indian organizations were hit by ransomware in the last six months. Ransomware attacks involve hacking into a user’s data and preventing them from accessing it until a ransom amount is paid. Ransomware attacks are critical for individual users but more so for businesses who can’t access the data for running their daily operations. However, with most ransomware attacks, the attackers don’t release the data even after the payment is made and instead try to extort more money. Going forward, there will be about 11.6 billion IoT devices by 2021. IoT devices include desktops, laptops, mobile phones, smart security devices, etc. As the adoption of IoT devices is increasing at an unprecedented rate, so are the challenges of Cyber Security.

Emerging threats in the digital world
There is a sharp increase in cyberattacks worldwide – A question arises who has to be blamed for it? We have seen emerging threats in the world of digital which are linked to cyber security. Now, several organizations have also adopted remote working trends. However, who should look after the security of remote work? Starting from school children to large businesses everyone is now enabled with remote working. The cyber risks are also increasing day by day. Everyone would say that the IT department must take this responsibility. One of the key reasons for the increase of cyber-attacks is lack of security guidance, underlying controls & vulnerabilities are difficult to handle from a home environment where you are not behind firewalls, relaxed or limited security policies, no latest patches, updates etc. The tech leaders and businesses must go through different steps to strengthen trust and make remote work secure. Cyber risk management becomes easier with the defence model.
Today, none of the organization's digital assets are 100% secure. One particular security solution can never be effective in serving your purpose. Business leaders need to look for ways to detect the most sensitive data. Loss of that data will be disastrous to organizations. Thus, you have to ensure the best security systems for that data. Both the IT team and businesses have to protect the data. Moreover, by differentiating the critical data from the trivial ones, you will have the best result. Invest in securities based on business identification of data and find higher returns. Solve the issues that may damage your business status, reputation & customer retention & trust of consumers. There has to be regular education to Your employees who can unintentionally hit malicious links, and this mistake can cause disaster. The most important thing is to report this mistake to prevent the virus fr

Digital Economy to touch $800 billion
India’s consumer digital economy which was pegged at $85-90 billion in CY 20, is expected to become a $800 billion market by 2030. The digital economy includes 60% of travel, 40% of non-grocery retail, 30% of education, 25% of food and beverages services and 6% of Pharma/Grocery going through digital channels by CY30, as per the data of RedSeer. With this growth we could forecast the next wave of entrepreneurs will create innovations which will make the Indian model successful globally. During these difficult times, most of the enterprises faced the challenge that their current levels of cybersecurity are not enough to protect their endpoints and servers.
The year 2020 has started with COVID-19 and a pell-mell shift to remote work, and finished with the gut-punch of a major breach that put hundreds of organizations into frantic access-and-remediate mode. The consequences of the pandemic’s rapid shift to work-from-home — and the exponential adoption to cloud technology that it helped drive — include lesser visibility into the security ecosystem, lesser control of access points, and a larger, more varied attack surface for adversaries to target. Over the course of the pandemic, there has been an escalating number of cyberattacks designed to exploit vulnerable remote workers and people who are desperate for information about the virus and vaccine. About 52% of Indian organizations fell victim to a successful cybersecurity attack in the last 12 months. Of these successful breaches, 71% of organizations admitted it was a serious or very serious attack, and 65 per cent said it took longer than a week to remediate.

The pandemic has boosted the remote work which has become the norm. This has led to immense growth in the demand for cloud computing software from companies transitioning their on-premise operations to the digital space. Edge cloud computing in particular saw a demand rise as operations enabled by the internet of things became increasingly common. There has been a shift in the way people think about enterprise security. The largest threat to a quickly changing workforce is the awareness perspective. Like, we can’t expect employees to practice good security if they aren’t aware of the dangers of working from home. “When you authenticate, when you VPN, you extend the company network to your home network that could be riddled with malware. If they aren’t aware of that, we can’t expect a lot of awareness from them. They have to understand why they need a VPN.”
Security awareness has got more visibility in the WFH environment, with an increasing attack surface and a workforce that has to be more self-reliant when it comes to securing their devices and home networks, as well as recognizing the increase of threats designed to take advantage of virus fears and stuck-at-home boredom. Hence, it is important for the companies to engage deeply to understand the availability of the security technologies. Supply chain attacks like 2020’s SolarWinds virus – where hackers opened backdoors into companies’ internal systems by exploiting a compromised third-party application – will likely become more common as hackers learn from each other and exploit vulnerable enterprise systems.
