അതെ, ലോകത്തിലെ ആദ്യത്തെ പൂര്‍ണ വെജിറ്റേറിയന്‍ നഗരം നമ്മുടെ ഇന്ത്യയില്‍ത്തന്നെയാണ്‌. ഗുജറാത്തിലാണ് പാലിതാന എന്ന ആ നഗരം. വളരെ ചെറിയൊരു നഗരമാണിതെങ്കിലും അതിന്റെ ഖ്യാതി ലോകമെമ്പാടും എത്തിയിരിക്കുന്നു. ജൈനരാണ് നിവാസികളില്‍ ഭൂരിഭാഗവും. ജൈനമതവിശ്വാസികളുടെ അനേകം ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളും ഐതിഹ്യങ്ങളും ഉറങ്ങുന്ന പാലിതാനയുടെ വിശേഷങ്ങള്‍ അറിയാം.
2014 ല്‍ ഗുജറാത്ത് സര്‍ക്കാരാണ് പാലിതാന നഗരത്തെ മാംസരഹിത മേഖലയായി പ്രഖ്യാപിച്ചത്. ഇവിടെ ഭക്ഷണ ആവശ്യങ്ങള്‍ക്കായി മൃഗങ്ങളെ കൊല്ലുന്നത് നിയമവിരുദ്ധമാണ്. മുട്ടയോ മാംസമോ വില്‍ക്കുന്നതും കര്‍ശനമായി നിരോധിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. ജൈനഭൂരിപക്ഷ മേഖലയായതിനാല്‍ അവരുടെ അനുഷ്ഠാനങ്ങള്‍ക്കും വിശ്വാസങ്ങള്‍ക്കും ക്ഷതമേല്‍ക്കുന്നവിധം മാംസാഹാരഉപയോഗം നിര്‍ത്തലാക്കണമെന്ന് ആവശ്യപ്പെട്ട് 200 ഓളം ജൈന സന്യാസികള്‍ നിരാഹാര സമരം നടത്തിയതിനെ തുടര്‍ന്നായിരുന്നു നിരോധനം.
ജൈനമതം എത്രപേര്‍ പിന്തുടരുന്നുവെന്നതിന് ഇന്നും കൃത്യമായ കണക്കുകളില്ല, എന്നാല്‍ ലോകമെമ്പാടും നാലു മുതല്‍ അഞ്ചു വരെ ദശലക്ഷം ആളുകള്‍ ജൈനമതവിശ്വാസികളാണ് എന്ന് കണക്കാക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. ഭാവ്‌നഗറില്‍ നിന്ന് 50 കിലോമീറ്റര്‍ ദൂരെ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന പാലിതാനയ്ക്ക് ആയിരം ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളുള്ള ഒരേയൊരു പര്‍വതനഗരം എന്ന റെക്കോര്‍ഡുമുണ്ട്. ജൈനർക്ക് പാലിതാന പുണ്യഭൂമിയാണ്.
പാലിതാനയിലെ ഏറ്റവും പ്രസിദ്ധമായ സ്ഥലം. ജൈന സമൂഹം പവിത്രമായി കരുതുന്ന തീര്‍ഥാടന കേന്ദ്രമാണ് ശത്രുഞ്ജയ് മഹാതീര്‍ഥ്. മാര്‍ബിളില്‍ കൊത്തിയെടുത്ത 1300 ലധികം ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങള്‍ ശത്രുഞ്ജയ കുന്നുകളില്‍ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നു. കുന്നിന്‍ മുകളിലുള്ള പ്രധാന ക്ഷേത്രം ഒന്നാം തീര്‍ഥങ്കര പ്രഭു പാലിതാന ആദിനാഥിനായി സമര്‍പ്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു. 591 മീറ്റര്‍ ഉയരമുള്ള ശത്രുഞ്ജയ പര്‍വതത്തിന്റെ മുകളിലെത്തണമെങ്കില്‍ 4 കിലോമീറ്റര്‍ ദൈര്‍ഘ്യമുള്ള ദുര്‍ഘടമായ പാത താണ്ടണം. നടക്കാൻ ബുദ്ധിമുട്ടുള്ളവർക്ക് ഡോളി, ലിഫ്റ്റ് കസേരകള്‍ എന്നിവ ലഭ്യമാണ്. മുകളിലെത്താന്‍ മറ്റൊരു വഴിയുമുണ്ട്. ആന സവാരിയാണത്. കൊടുമുടിക്കു മുകളിലുള്ള ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളെല്ലാം ആയിരം വര്‍ഷത്തിലധികം പഴക്കമുള്ളവയാണ്.
ചെറുതും വലുതുമായ നിരവധി ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളാണ് പാലിതാനയിലെ പ്രധാന ആകര്‍ഷണം. ഓരോന്നും ജൈന ഇതിഹാസങ്ങളുമായും അവയുടെ ധീര ചരിത്രവുമായും ബന്ധപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു. ഇവയിൽ മിക്കതും ഓരോ കുന്ന

അതെ, ലോകത്തിലെ ആദ്യത്തെ പൂര്‍ണ വെജിറ്റേറിയന്‍ നഗരം നമ്മുടെ ഇന്ത്യയില്‍ത്തന്നെയാണ്‌. ഗുജറാത്തിലാണ് പാലിതാന എന്ന ആ നഗരം. വളരെ ചെറിയൊരു നഗരമാണിതെങ്കിലും അതിന്റെ ഖ്യാതി ലോകമെമ്പാടും എത്തിയിരിക്കുന്നു. ജൈനരാണ് നിവാസികളില്‍ ഭൂരിഭാഗവും. ജൈനമതവിശ്വാസികളുടെ അനേകം ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളും ഐതിഹ്യങ്ങളും ഉറങ്ങുന്ന പാലിതാനയുടെ വിശേഷങ്ങള്‍ അറിയാം.
2014 ല്‍ ഗുജറാത്ത് സര്‍ക്കാരാണ് പാലിതാന നഗരത്തെ മാംസരഹിത മേഖലയായി പ്രഖ്യാപിച്ചത്. ഇവിടെ ഭക്ഷണ ആവശ്യങ്ങള്‍ക്കായി മൃഗങ്ങളെ കൊല്ലുന്നത് നിയമവിരുദ്ധമാണ്. മുട്ടയോ മാംസമോ വില്‍ക്കുന്നതും കര്‍ശനമായി നിരോധിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. ജൈനഭൂരിപക്ഷ മേഖലയായതിനാല്‍ അവരുടെ അനുഷ്ഠാനങ്ങള്‍ക്കും വിശ്വാസങ്ങള്‍ക്കും ക്ഷതമേല്‍ക്കുന്നവിധം മാംസാഹാരഉപയോഗം നിര്‍ത്തലാക്കണമെന്ന് ആവശ്യപ്പെട്ട് 200 ഓളം ജൈന സന്യാസികള്‍ നിരാഹാര സമരം നടത്തിയതിനെ തുടര്‍ന്നായിരുന്നു നിരോധനം.
ജൈനമതം എത്രപേര്‍ പിന്തുടരുന്നുവെന്നതിന് ഇന്നും കൃത്യമായ കണക്കുകളില്ല, എന്നാല്‍ ലോകമെമ്പാടും നാലു മുതല്‍ അഞ്ചു വരെ ദശലക്ഷം ആളുകള്‍ ജൈനമതവിശ്വാസികളാണ് എന്ന് കണക്കാക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. ഭാവ്‌നഗറില്‍ നിന്ന് 50 കിലോമീറ്റര്‍ ദൂരെ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന പാലിതാനയ്ക്ക് ആയിരം ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളുള്ള ഒരേയൊരു പര്‍വതനഗരം എന്ന റെക്കോര്‍ഡുമുണ്ട്. ജൈനർക്ക് പാലിതാന പുണ്യഭൂമിയാണ്.
പാലിതാനയിലെ ഏറ്റവും പ്രസിദ്ധമായ സ്ഥലം. ജൈന സമൂഹം പവിത്രമായി കരുതുന്ന തീര്‍ഥാടന കേന്ദ്രമാണ് ശത്രുഞ്ജയ് മഹാതീര്‍ഥ്. മാര്‍ബിളില്‍ കൊത്തിയെടുത്ത 1300 ലധികം ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങള്‍ ശത്രുഞ്ജയ കുന്നുകളില്‍ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നു. കുന്നിന്‍ മുകളിലുള്ള പ്രധാന ക്ഷേത്രം ഒന്നാം തീര്‍ഥങ്കര പ്രഭു പാലിതാന ആദിനാഥിനായി സമര്‍പ്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു. 591 മീറ്റര്‍ ഉയരമുള്ള ശത്രുഞ്ജയ പര്‍വതത്തിന്റെ മുകളിലെത്തണമെങ്കില്‍ 4 കിലോമീറ്റര്‍ ദൈര്‍ഘ്യമുള്ള ദുര്‍ഘടമായ പാത താണ്ടണം. നടക്കാൻ ബുദ്ധിമുട്ടുള്ളവർക്ക് ഡോളി, ലിഫ്റ്റ് കസേരകള്‍ എന്നിവ ലഭ്യമാണ്. മുകളിലെത്താന്‍ മറ്റൊരു വഴിയുമുണ്ട്. ആന സവാരിയാണത്. കൊടുമുടിക്കു മുകളിലുള്ള ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളെല്ലാം ആയിരം വര്‍ഷത്തിലധികം പഴക്കമുള്ളവയാണ്.
ചെറുതും വലുതുമായ നിരവധി ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളാണ് പാലിതാനയിലെ പ്രധാന ആകര്‍ഷണം. ഓരോന്നും ജൈന ഇതിഹാസങ്ങളുമായും അവയുടെ ധീര ചരിത്രവുമായും ബന്ധപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു. ഇവയിൽ മിക്കതും ഓരോ കുന്ന
