"Winless Japan and Belgium faced each other in their last pool game of the 2014 Rabobank Women's Hockey World Cup.
The match got off to a slow start with both teams failing to create many chances. Japan had the better chances but could not connect to passes into the circle to take the lead. Half time arrived with the teams tied at 0-0.
The second half began more promisingly with Belgium going 1-0 ahead in the 37th minute with Emilie Sinia scoring through the legs of the Japanese keeper. Japan equalised seven minutes later with Ayaka Nishimura scoring an overhead volley from close range. Akane Shibata then bravely dived in to score Japan's second to put her nation 2-1 up in the 63rd minute. Four minutes later, Belgium were back level after a great finish from Manon Simons. The 2-2 draw ensured Japan finished above Belgium in the Pool A standings.

"A semi-final place was on the line in the evening Pool A game between England and Belgium at the 2014 Rabobank Men's Hockey World Cup.
England started the game knowing that only a win would ensure a place in the semi-finals, whilst Belgium only needed a draw to get through. Belgium went 1-0 up in the 13th minute after good work down the wing by Simon Gougnard who passed to Thomas Briels to score. It didn't take long for England to get back level when Nick Catlin struck from the edge of the circle in the 19th minute. Belgium had the majority of the possession in the closing stages of the half but the teams went into the break at 1-1.
England only took four minutes from the restart to go 2-1 ahead after great build up play by Nick Catlin who made a great assist for Ashley Jackson to score on his 100th appearance for his nation. However, with seven minutes of the game remaining Tanguy Cosyns drew Belgium level at 2-2 from a penalty corner. The drama was far from over as England was awarded a penalty stroke with four minutes remaining. Belgium were desperate for the umpire to refer the incident but the decision stood and Iain Lewers stepped up and coolly fired high past the keeper to put England 3-2 up and into the semi-finals.

"1st game of the Rabobank Hockey Wormen's World Cup and its New Zealand taking on Belgium in the first 1st game of the Women's Pool A.
It started off even at the start but New Zealand showed there experience against this unexperienced Belgium side and were awarded a Penalty Corner and with Anita Punt's shot met by Krystal Forgesson who was on hand to slot that in to the net. It was 2-0 shortly after for New Zealand and it was another combination of Punt and Forgesson again, putting Black Sticks in control of this game. Before the break New Zealand were awarded another Penalty Corner and Punt was on hand again to dragflick the ball into the net and at the break it was 3-0 New Zealand.
2nd Half saw the Black Sticks come out strong and saw them increase their lead to 4-0 when Whitlock tapped in the ball and it looked like all New Zealand again in this half. However the Red Panthers did not give up without a fight, and grabbed a goal back when Barbra Nelen met a deflected shot to make the score 4-1. Belgium grabbed a 2nd goal when Emilia Sinla tapped her shot into the net. It looked like a strong comeback for the Red Panthers and it was Stephanie de Groof to convert the Penalty Corner into the net and put her team in a good chance of grabbing a draw. However it was not meant to be the final score ended in New Zelands favour 4-3.

2nd game of the Rabobank Hockey Men's World Cup and its Belgium taking on India in Men's Pool A.
Started off with both teams very even and both teams looking very strong to take the lead. It was Belgium who had the first real chance when Thomas Brlels shot was well saved by India's keeper Harjot Singh and India cleared there lines. Belgium however made their chances count and scored the first goal of the game when Brlels long shot was met by Arthur van Doran who tapped the ball in to put his Nation 1 goal up.
After the break is was pretty scrappy for both team but India showed that they where not going to let Belgium take the lead again and levelled the scores when Mandeep Singh tapped in the ball from Dharamavir Singh cross making the scores 1-1. And they made it 2-1 later on when Akashdeep Singh met a 23 metre cross into the box and scored against the run of play. Belgium however didn't let India's lead last long when they were awarded a Penalty Corner and were levelled again when Simon Gougnard tapped in Tom Boon's Penalty Corner levelling the scores 2-2. With scores even, both teams were looking to break the deadlock but it would the Belgium's who grabbed the last minute goal of the game when John-John Dohmen met a long ball and his shot went straight past the keeper sealing the win for Belgium.

Day 3 of the 2014 Rabobank Men's Hockey World Cup draws to a close with the contest between Malaysia and Belgium.
The underdogs Malaysia made it 1-0 from their first penalty corner, which was a well worked variation, in the 5th min through Razie Rahim. Belgium fought back and was awarded a penalty stroke after a Malaysian defender blocked a penalty corner effort with his chest. Tom Boon stepped up and made no mistake with his stroke to make it 1-1 in the 14th minute. After Alex de Saedeleer received a yellow card for a rash challenge, Malaysia converted the resulting penalty corner to go up 2-1, with Razie Rahim getting his second goal of the game. The one man disadvantage did not faze Belgium as Kumar Subramiam had to make a great save for Malaysia, before Simon Gougnard missed a golden opportunity right in front of goal. Seconds later, Tom Boon again scored from a penalty corner to bring the scores level at 2-2. Tom Boon was on fire and thought he had scored his hat-trick with a magnificent effort only for it to be ruled out by a video referral. Two minutes later, Boon did grab his hat-trick with a field goal to send Belgium into the break 3-2 up.
Belgium raced out of the blocks in the second half and scored in the 37th minute from a penalty corner through Tanguy Cosyns. Tom Boon then scored another fantastic goal, which this time was legitimate, to take his tally to four and the score to 5-2. Malaysia's resistance started to crumble

"The last game of day 3 of the Rabobank Women's Hockey World Cup was a local derby between host nation Netherlands and Belgium.
Cheered on by a huge crowd in the Kyocera Stadium, the Dutch team made a fast start to the game and Ellen Hoog scored a beautiful field goal in the 5th minute to put her nation ahead 1-0. After an early domination by the Netherlands, the Belgium team started to gain a foothold in the game, but the quality of the Dutch team shone through and Marloes Keetels made it 2-0 in the 29th minute. The tournament's number one ranked team went into the break with a two goal cushion.
The Dutch made another fantastic start in the second half and Roos Drost raced clear into the D but her shot was saved easily. It didn't take long for the next goal as Maartje Paumen struck home a penalty stroke in the 44th minute to take the score to 3-0. The Netherlands were running rampant and Roos Drost finally got her goal to make it 4-0 five minutes later. Belgium came close to a consolation goal through Charlotte De Vos, but the Dutch girls comfortably saw out the rest of the game and recorded their second win of the tournament.

At the start of day 7, both Spain and Belgium had it all to play for with both sides needing the win to keep them in contention in Group A.
It was soon evident that it was to be Belgium's day though, when Cosyns opened the scoring inside 13 minutes through a penalty goal. A second penalty goal followed three minutes later with, this time, de Saedeleer converting well. The Belgium pressure continued and the Red Lions were creating good chances seemingly a will, culminating in a goal a minute from half time with Stockbroekx turning well to create space for the shot and firing in well.
In the second half it didn't take long for Belgium to continue where they left off in the first and they scored inside the first 3 minutes of the half, Cosyns adding his second from a penalty corner. The fifth from Belgium followed 10 minutes later, when Boon's shot from a penalty corner was saved, Dohmen was on hand to knock in the rebound and make it 5. Credit to Spain though as and two late goals gave the score a more respectable look to it. The first a penalty goal by Tubau and the second a lovely flowing team move finished off from close range by Santi Freixa.

"1st game of the Rabobank Hockey World Cup and its Australia taking on Malaysia in the 1st game from the Men's Pool A.
Australia started off strong from the start and took the lead on the 25th minute when Glenn Turner was through on goal and he went round the keeper to put Australia 1-0 up till the break.
After Half-Time Australia was again on the front foot creating a number of chances and made it 2-0 when Eddie Ockenden with a dribble down the left and hit the ball into the net. 2 minutes later Australia hit again with Jamie Dwyer cutting inside the middle and slotting the ball in the goal. Australia sealed the win when Glenn Turner converted his Penalty Corner seeing Australia win 4-0. Malaysia did have their chance but a strong Australian team were on the day the better team.

Day 5 in Group A saw the highly anticipated clash between Belgium and Australia. With top spot up for grabs, Australia shot out of the blocks taking an early lead through Ciriello who fired in from a penalty corner. The Aussies weren't done there though and doubled their lead with an incisive breakaway goal, Turner teeing up Whetton after seeing his initial shot blocked.
The Australians started the second half in the same manner as they started the first getting an early goal and putting clear daylight between themselves and Belgium through a fine solo goal by Ockenden. This time around though Belgium had a reply and Dockier pulled one back giving the Red Lions hope of staging an unlikely comeback. But it was the Kookaburras who finished the half stronger, shutting the game out to return to the top of Group A.
