Janmashtami is being celebrated with traditional gaiety and fervour

Festival of Sri Krishna Janmashtami is being celebrated with traditional gaiety and fervour all over the world. People dressed in their best are visiting temple to offer prayers to Lord Krishna. One of the big ritual is Dahi Handi which is celebrated in the western part of India predominantly Mumbai and parts of Maharashtra. Since morning large group of young boys and girls who are called as "Govindas' in localy are seen visiting various places across the city to break the Dahi Handi as per the ritual. However, the enthusiasm among Govindas and organisers are are little low due to Supreme Court strictures issued on the height of human pyramids. The main function is being organised at the in Mathura and Vrindvan, which have been decked up with flowers and lights. Faithfuls in large numbers have been gathering since early morning to offer their prayers.
