Bhumi Pednekar recently appeared in the comedy Thank You For Coming and the film invited some extreme reactions from the viewers. While some praised the film for its bold concept, some shamed it for that. In an exclusive conversation with Bollywood Bubble host Akash Bhatnagar, Bhumi spoke about the latter group of people and slammed them for the shaming. She expressed her disappointment towards people who didn’t criticise the film but its intent. The actress discussed the prevalent gender bias and how people never took offence when she was a part of such stories told from a male perspective. She pointed out how Pankaj Tripathi and Akshay Kumar starrer OMG 2 was supported by the same people who shamed her film, when somewhere they dealt with the same subject. Bhumi revealed if not getting any support from women within the industry disappointed her. Pandora Papers exposed Influential elites
The Pandora Papers’s 11.9 million records arrived from 14 different offshore services firms in a jumble of files and formats – even ink-on-paper – presenting a massive data-management challenge. It contains a 2.94 terabyte data trove exposes the offshore secrets of wealthy elites from more than 200 countries and territories. These are people who use tax and secrecy havens to buy property and hide assets; many avoid taxes and worse. They include more than 330 politicians and 130 Forbes billionaires, as well as celebrities, fraudsters, drug dealers, royal family members and leaders of religious groups around the world. The task involved three main elements: journalists, technology and time. The investigation is based on a leak of confidential records of 14 offshore service providers that give professional services to wealthy individuals and corporations seeking to incorporate shell companies, trusts, foundations and other entities in low- or no-tax jurisdictions.
As per Deloitte Anti-Money Laundering Preparedness Survey Report 2020, the amount of money laundered in one year is estimated to be between two percent and five percent of global GDP, or from $800 billion to $2 trillion annually. The paper claims how several ultra-rich used trusts as a vehicle for the sole purpose of holding their investments. In India, it is legitimate to set up a trust both in the country and outside. The trust is governed by Indian Trusts Act, which does not see trust per se as a legal entity but does recognise the trustee. It allows trustees to manage and make use of assets for the beneficiaries’ benefits. The rule also allows setting up trust in foreign jurisdiction. Many corporate, large business houses set up trusts for legit purposes and are genuine in nature. Data Centers are the backbone of a digital revolution. The Government of India’s proposed Draft Data Center Policy aims to make India a ‘Global Data Center’. Data centers in India are emerging as the most attractive growth opportunity for global institutional investors and leading developers. Now various state governments have also been providing incentives to industry players for setting up data center parks. So far, a total $11.4 billion investment has been planned and committed for data centers development in the country and global firms’ contribution out of this is more than 65%, showed data from Cushman & Wakefield. This clearly indicates the rising preference for India among global data centre majors and is attributed to the data localisation norms and the government’s proposed new data centre policy aimed at simplifying the rules. Courts-new battleground for social media
We are witnessing over the last couple of months, the social media companies have been put on trial in India. Courts have become a battleground with Facebook, WhatsApp and Twitter in various courts of the country right now, both as petitioners and respondents. Last week, the head of Facebook India, Ajit Mohan was in the Supreme Court which ruled that he would have to appear before a Delhi Assembly committee for his representation regarding the riots that broke out in Delhi last year. In its judgement the court also said that “the capital of the country can ill-afford any repetition of the occurrence and thus, the role of Facebook in this context must be looked into by the powers that be”. Around the same time, Twitter India’s Manish Maheshwari was arguing in the Karnataka High Court that the notices the Uttar Pradesh Police sent to him over an investigation into a viral video were “without the sanction of law”. The UP Police, though, said Maheshwari was playing “hide and seek”. WhatsApp, too, was in the Delhi High Court over its controversial privacy policy, committing that it won’t enforce the policy until India passes the imminent personal data protection bill.
Under the new IT Rules, significant social media intermediaries—platforms with over 5 million Indian users—are mandated to appoint a chief compliance officer who can be held liable under any proceedings in case of non-compliance. Referring to the vast reach of Facebook, the bench said it has 2.85 billion monthly active users worldwide, of which India accounts for 270 million. The SC said it made Facebook a powerful entity as far as influencing the opinions of citizens is concerned. “Such vast powers must necessarily come with responsibility,” it said. हिजाब नहीं यूनिफॉर्म जरूरी ! जिसका संदर्भ है... देश में गरमाए हिजाब मामले में आज कर्नाटक हाई कोर्ट ने हिजाब विवाद मामले में आखिरकार फैसला सुना दिया है. हिजाब पहनने को लेकर छात्राओं की ओर से लगाई गई याचिका पर सुनवाई करते हुए कर्नाटक हाईकोर्ट ने कहा कि, हिजाब इस्लाम में जरूरी नहीं है, और स्कूल में यूनिफॉर्म पहनना ही अनिवार्य होगा। कर्नाटक हाईकोर्ट ने हिजाब बैन के खिलाफ दायर सभी याचिकाएं खारिज कर दी हैं.... हाईकोर्ट का कहना है कि स्कूल में छात्र यूनिफॉर्म को पहनने से मना नहीं कर सकते, हाईकोर्ट के इस फैसले के बाद राज्य में सुरक्षा के इंतेजाम और कड़े कर दिए गए हैं... ऐसे में अब ये भी माना जा रहा है, कि इस निर्णय का विश्लेषण करने के बाद छात्राएं सुप्रीम कोर्ट का रुख कर सकती हैं या नहीं आइये जानें इस कार्यक्रम से जुड़े हर सवाल का जवाब, देखिए....
