According to experts, there has been a distinct rise in complaints about loan app scams in India. The cyber fraudsters target everyone but the elderly and the young are more vulnerable. The aged are not so Internet-savvy and neither familiar with digital safety norms. As such, they easily fall prey to these types of frauds.
People are lured by promising a higher loan amount without paperwork and customers will get the money instantly but less than the promised sum. As the customer installs the app, it will have access to sensitive information of the customer. It will gain access to phone contacts, gallery and other information. Using this information, the company will adopt harsh recovery tactics.
The loan agents will abuse and harass the customers and will go up to the extent of calling the friends and relatives of the customers from their contact list. In some cases, customers died by suicide after #cyberfraudsters allegedly circulated morphed photos for failing to repay loans taken through an instant loan mobile app.
Recently, Delhi Police busted a multi-crore Chinese loan application fraud and extortion racket, and arrested four people, including the mastermind behind the scam. The Chinese nationals, instead of establishing call centres in India, hired Indian nationals for different positions. Some were hired as supervisors who would then go on to hire more people to make calls for loan recovery while some were hired to morph photos of borrowers.
The Reserve Bank of India Working Group on digital lending said in a report that as many as 600 "illegal loan apps" are there in several app stores for Android users in India. A total of around 1,100 unique Indian loan apps that have the keywords such as loan, instant loan, quick loan, etc, are available in the App stores.

The new directive applies not only to VPN companies, but to cloud service providers, data centres and crypto exchanges, to collect specific, extensive customer data even after users delete their account or cancel their subscriptions. It says, VPN Companies will have to store user names, IP addresses, usage patterns and other related information and this also will check the Unauthorised access to social media accounts, as part of the directive. VPN services don't store logs of user activities and users usually use VPNs to hide their IP address from their Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and other third parties.

This makes it almost impossible for third parties to track your online activities and steal your data. Privacy is the main reason why people buy premium subscription plans from VPN providers but after the directive comes into effect, it may result in a loss in business for companies at the same time, some may have to stop operations in India. साइबर पुलिस ने पारिवारिक रंजिश के चलते 49 लाख रूपए की फर्जी इनकम टैक्स रिटर्न रिवाइज करने वाले आरोपी को गिरफ्तार किया है। आरोपी युवक ने अपने चचेरे भाई को संपत्ति विवाद के चलते परेशान करने के लिए उसकी जीमेल आईडी और इनकम टैक्स आईडी हैक कर ली इसके बाद उसने उसके ही अकाउंट से 49 लाख रूपए की आय दिखा दी। मामला प्रशांत अग्रवाल नामक व्यापारी का है जो हनुमानताल क्षेत्र में पैतृक मकान में अपने भाई-भतीजों के साथ ही रहते हैं। कुछ समय से दोनों परिवारों में पैतृक मकान को लेकर विवाद चल रहा है जिसके चलते प्रशांत अग्रवाल ने अपने भाई विनोद पर कोर्ट केस कर दिया। इसके बाद से ही विनोद का बेटा विकास अपने चाचा प्रशांत से रंजिश रखने लगा। विकास पेशे से टैक्स कंसल्टेंट है, जिसे इनकम टैक्स फाइल करने संबंधी नियम कानूनों की पूरी जानकारी है। उसने अपने इसी ज्ञान का फायदा उठाते हुए पहले प्रशांत अग्रवाल की जीमेल आईडी हैक की फिर उसके माध्यम से इनकम टैक्स रिटर्न रिवाइज में 49 लाख रूपए की आमदनी शो कर दी। मामला जब साइबर सेल पहंुचा तो साइबर एक्सपर्ट्स ने पूरी डिटेल निकाली जिसमें विकास के कम्प्यूटर द्वारा रिटर्न फाइल करने की जानकारी सामने आई।
