Black Americans: An Ode To Equality

The African-American Civil Rights Movement aimed to end the torturous racial segregation and discrimination against the coloured in America. It all started with the passing of three major amendments - 13th Amendment (end of slavery), 14th Amendment (Giving African-Americans citizenship) and 15th Amendment (giving African-American males the right to vote). The world saw several leaders including Andrew Young, the son of a slave, who fought for the rights of his people and freed them from the years of misery and suffering.

The Civil Right Movement in the United States marked a series of pathetic yet nonviolent events to give the black Americans their full civil rights and equality. The movement's impact on the American society have sure been fair till date, but the tales would leave anyone sick at heart. The African-American's fight to end discrimination and racial segregation gave birth to a range of political struggles and reform movements between 1945 and 1970. After the Civil War, the 13th, 14th and 15th Amendments (end of slavery, African-Americans right to citizenship and right to vote respectively) were passed by the Congress. However, this led to a major uproar among the citizens resulting to the emergence of several leaders and community groups.
