The Children's Day doodle on the Google India home page has been designed by a class 10 student from Pune. The doodle titled "Sky's the limit for Indian women" has been designed by Gayatri Ketharaman for the fifth edition of Doodle 4 Google competition with the theme celebrating Indian women.
"Each letter of the doodle depicts the trait of Indian women. She is graceful and elegant, adept at balancing work and home. She is a go-getter and also personifies motherhood," says Gayatri Ketharaman, a student of Bishop's co-education school in Pune.
The winner was selected from among 12 finalists chosen from different parts of the country by the national jury comprising actress Kirron Kher and political cartoonist Ajit Ninan. Along with the national winner, three students grouped into different categories were also awarded.
Madhuram Vatsal from Lucknow won the prize in Class one to three category, while Binita Biswajeeta from Odisha with her doodle 'Women are future, empower them better' won in Class four to six category, and Akash Shetty from Bangalore with doodle titled 'Indian women leading our country' won in the Class seven to ten category.
This year the competition received 1.5 lakh entries in the contest held across 100 cities and 1,500 schools.

The American search engine has devised one of its iconic moving illustrations to mark the annual global environmental protection event. The doodle features number of animals, all of whom wish the viewer a Happy Earth Day.
First up is the Rufous Hummingbird, which hungrily devours the sweet nectar inside a couple of blooming flowers.
Next up, a pair of dozing monkeys huddle together for warmth in a snowy landscape.
Also, a throbbing moon jellyfish, a dung beetle, rotating puffer fish and a veiled chameleon can be seen.
Earth Day was first held in 1970 and is now celebrated in more than 192 countries every year.

Herman Melville, celebrated author and the man behind the all-time classic Moby-Dick, is the inspiration behind Thursday's Google doodle.
Moby-Dick is the great epic of whales and waling. It tells the story of Ahab, Captain of the Pequod, and of his revenge-mission and insane pursuit of Moby Dick, the fierce white whale. Among Ahab's crew is Ishmael, a young man undergoing a gruelling rite of passage and pursuing a different salvation. One critic described it as "[A]n ill-compounded mixture of romance and matter-of-fact. The idea of a connected and collected story has obviously visited and abandoned its writer again and again in the course of composition. The style of his tale is in places disfigured by mad (rather than bad) English; and its catastrophe is hastily, weakly, and obscurely managed."

Search engine giant Google on Wednesday celebrated American Graphic Designer Saul Bass's 93rd birthday with one of its most unique and innovative doodle featuring a video of his trademark designs in film credits and film posters.
The new doodle shows a sequence of Bass' best works in films with the tunes of jazz composer Dave Brubeck's "Unsquare Dance" playing in the background.
In a career that spanned three decades, Bass worked with some of the best filmmakers like Alfred Hitchcock, Otto Perminger, BillyWider Stanley Kubrick and Martin Scorsese.
Born on 8 May, 1920 in New York, Bass' artistic talent was evident since childhood. He attended the Arts Student League and worked as a freelance designer for several years. His breakthrough came in 1954 when he was assigned to design a film poster for Otto Preminger's "Carmen Jones". Bass' sophisticated composition in the black and white poster featuring Dorothy Dandridge in an eye-popping red skirt impressed the director so much that the designer went on to make the title sequence.
His dramatic designs added a whole new dimension to the industry and soon several filmmakers roped him in the design stages of production. John Wisden, born on September 5, 1826, in Brighton, was famous as an avid English cricketer and for writing Cricketers' Almanack (1864) or sometimes simply referred to as 'the Bible of Cricket'.
Wisden Cricketers' Almanack is considered to be one of the significant contributions to the sport and the world's widely famous sports reference book. It was first used in 1930s.
John Wisden, a first-class cricketer, played 187 matches for three English county cricket teams Sussex, Kent and Middlesex.
Wisden's passion towards cricket developed from his early days and at the age of 18 he made his debut for Sussex.
As a first class cricketer, he made his debut at the age of 19 for Sussex.
His cricketing abilities and knowledge was impressive and he was known as one of the best all-rounders of his days. Among his fellow sportsmen and fans he was popular as "The Little Wonder".
At the age of 57, Wisden died of cancer and he was buried in Brompton Cemetery, London.
To mark centenary of Wisden's death, a headstone was placed at his grave in 1984.

Herman Melville, celebrated author and the man behind the all-time classic Moby-Dick, is the inspiration behind Thursday's Google doodle.
Moby-Dick is the great epic of whales and waling. It tells the story of Ahab, Captain of the Pequod, and of his revenge-mission and insane pursuit of Moby Dick, the fierce white whale. Among Ahab's crew is Ishmael, a young man undergoing a gruelling rite of passage and pursuing a different salvation. As the Pequod circles the globe like a latter-day Noah's Ark, so Moby Dick ranges and digresses through space and time, through mythologies, religions and philosophies.
The Google doodle depicts a scene from the book where Captain Ahab leads a boat to strike at the huge white whale.
Herman Melville had written Typee and Omoo before he wrote, what he believed was his masterpiece, Moby-Dick. He was shocked by the less-than-flattering reception the book received. One critic described it as "[A]n ill-compounded mixture of romance and matter-of-fact. The idea of a connected and collected story has obviously visited and abandoned its writer again and again in the course of composition. The style of his tale is in places disfigured by mad (rather than bad) English; and its catastrophe is hastily, weakly, and obscurely managed."

Search engine giant Google on Wednesday celebrated American Graphic Designer Saul Bass's 93rd birthday with one of its most unique and innovative doodle featuring a video of his trademark designs in film credits and film posters.
The new doodle shows a sequence of Bass' best works in films with the tunes of jazz composer Dave Brubeck's "Unsquare Dance" playing in the background.
In a career that spanned three decades, Bass worked with some of the best filmmakers like Alfred Hitchcock, Otto Perminger, BillyWider Stanley Kubrick and Martin Scorsese.
Born on 8 May, 1920 in New York, Bass' artistic talent was evident since childhood. He attended the Arts Student League and worked as a freelance designer for several years. His breakthrough came in 1954 when he was assigned to design a film poster for Otto Preminger's "Carmen Jones". Bass' sophisticated composition in the black and white poster featuring Dorothy Dandridge in an eye-popping red skirt impressed the director so much that the designer went on to make the title sequence.
His dramatic designs added a whole new dimension to the industry and soon several filmmakers roped him in the design stages of production. Some of his best works were seen in "The Man with Golden Arms", "North by Northwest", "Psycho" "Vertigo" and "Spartacus". In the 1990s, he also created title sequences for &q

Google on Thursday marked John Wisden's 187th birthday with a doodle on its homepage.
John Wisden, born on September 5, 1826, in Brighton, was famous as an avid English cricketer and for writing Cricketers' Almanack (1864) or sometimes simply referred to as 'the Bible of Cricket'.
Wisden Cricketers' Almanack is considered to be one of the significant contributions to the sport and the world's widely famous sports reference book. It was first used in 1930s.
John Wisden, a first-class cricketer, played 187 matches for three English county cricket teams Sussex, Kent and Middlesex.
Wisden's passion towards cricket developed from his early days and at the age of 18 he made his debut for Sussex.
As a first class cricketer, he made his debut at the age of 19 for Sussex.
His cricketing abilities and knowledge was impressive and he was known as one of the best all-rounders of his days. Among his fellow sportsmen and fans he was popular as "The Little Wonder".
At the age of 57, Wisden died of cancer and he was buried in Brompton Cemetery, London.
To mark centenary of Wisden's death, a headstone was placed at his grave in 1984.
