Shutting off fourth bridge on the river Tawi for the repair work has led to never ending traffic jams in the city. The bridge has been closed for the construction of bund and the immediate repairs. Presently, most of the traffic is diverted to Canal Road area thus rising traffic congestion problem on the Canal Road to Jewel Chowk road. Though the senior engineers have confirmed that the repair work will be done within two weeks still talking about the ground conditions, it cannot be remotely said that work will be done within the aforementioned time frame.
The authorities have completely cut off the bridge from one side. This step is likely to affect the influx and smooth functioning of Amarnath Yatra. People residing in the adjoining areas are deeply affected by this move and have propounded that such steps should have been taken a lot earlier and not at this stage especially during monsoon season. Floods can adversely affect them and in extreme conditions, their homes can be washed away owing to heavy flooding.
