Rahul Gandhi addressed a public rally in Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh on March 20, 2014. Addressing the huge turnout, Rahul Gandhi attacked the opposition for mocking the party for the work it has done for the poor people. Speaking amidst an enthusiastic crowd, Rahul Gandhi highlighted the progress that Himachal Pradesh had made with the Congress Party. "We have increased the supply of drinking water in Dharamshala, enabled successful irrigation work in Una, and set up an industrial area in Kinnaur. The state government has approved Rs. 1700 crore and 62 new industries, which will bring manufacturing jobs for the youth of Himachal," said Rahul Gandhi. He also spoke about the Himachal-Ladakh tunnel that will enhance connectivity in the region.
Stating that the opposition makes false claims about development of infrastructure, the Rahul Gandhi highlighted that the UPA government made three times the number of roads in five years in comparison to the NDA government for the same period. He also mentioned that the opposition was against statehood for Himachal, but today tries to take the credit for creating the state, a decision that was actually taken by the Congress.
Rahul Gandhi stressed that revamping the education system, to provide better access to higher education opportunities would be a priority for the Congress in Himachal. This election is a battle between two thoughts -- one that of Congress which is based on love, affection, brotherhood and inclusive growth; the other ideology is based on anger, hatred and of pitting one against another," Rahul Gandhi told a massive crowd.
He cautioned the people of being misled by the false propaganda of the opposition party. "We faced resistance from them during the land acquisition bill's passage. When a rich person sells his land, he gets to do so at the market price however when a poor farmer sells his land he doesn't get a fair price. This farmer bleeds and sweats for the country and fails to get a proper price for his land. The opposition tried stopping this bill at the standing committee level but yet we managed to pass it," said Rahul Gandhi.
Sharing the ideology and the vision of the Congress party, Rahul Gandhi promised the people of UP that the state will have unprecedented development when the Congress comes to power. He added that the ideology of the Congress is of love, peace and brotherhood and the BJP can continue dreaming about removing Congress from India. "They don't realize that the Congress party is not an entity, it is an ideology. "The opposition talks about the Gujarat model everywhere. What has it got to do with Manipur, or UP, or Meghalaya? The only model that should work in Manipur is the Manipur model, not the Gujarat model," Rahul Gandhi told a massive public rally.
He said the Congress party respected everybody, irrespective of their religion or the place they came from. "We don't want to impose anything on Manipur. We are proud of the language and culture of Manipur as we are proud of all others," Rahul Gandhi told a cheering crowd.
He said he believed that every person of India deserves respect, and added that the opposition party treated natives of Uttar Pradesh poorly in Maharashtra, and the Northeastern people in Delhi. Criticizing the state ruling party, TMC, for their inadequate work, Rahul Gandhi stated that the large amount of funds sent to West Bengal by the Central Government have not been effectively utilized. While addressing the party rally, Rahul Gandhi also spoke of the steps taken by the Congress party to empower people and promote inclusive growth.
"We want to take everyone along in the process of development, which is why we send funds from the Centre to improve the development of infrastructure and roads. These funds have not reached people, and the insufficient development in West Bengal is a result of this issue. Congress has announced several welfare schemes and rights-based legislations, but the implementation at the local level has been poor," said Rahul Gandhi.
Rahul Gandhi also threw light on the hypocrisy of the TMC government. Every state is different and needs its own model to succeed," he said. "We want to empower you, which is why we have established 6 Autonomous Councils and 18 Development Councils and put power in your hands. Rahul Gandhi spoke about the empowerment of women and said that the Congress Party will pass the Bill to introduce 33 per cent reservation for women in Parliament when it forms the next government. Linking women to banks and providing them access to credit would be another priority he said because India cannot be a superpower if it did not empower women who form 50 percent of the population. He assured the youth of the state that in the coming months millions of jobs would be created with the building of the dedicated industrial corridors with road and rail connectivity.

Rahul Gandhi struck a personal cord with the people of Arunachal Pradesh during his public meeting in Ziro. He began his speech by greeting the people of Ziro in their language: "Ziro, Aya Doha". Describing Ziro as a place of immeasurable beauty, he said "There is no shortage of beauty here. The people are beautiful, the mountains are beautiful, nature is beautiful, the women are beautiful. Zero means that which can't be measured. Your beauty is immeasurable. That's why this place is called Ziro".
Rahul Gandhi expressed his anguish at the death Nido Taniam, a boy from Arunachal Pradesh who was murdered in Delhi. Rahul said, "Our party stands for unity among the whole country and that is the idea we stand for. We condemned the incident," said Rahul Gandhi. "India belongs to everyone: every caste, every religion, every community," he said. "We want to create such an India in which wherever you go, all of you feel that you will be welcomed with open arms," he said.
Rahul Gandhi said that Arunachal Pradesh has made a lot of progress since its formation. "Prime Minister Indira Gandhi made Arunachal Pradesh a Union Territory in 1972. It became a state under Rajiv Gandhi. Arunachal Pradesh has come a long way since then. Its literacy was almost zero, now it is almost equal to the national average," he said.
