A Billion & One Voices: The story of Raseedan
Raseedan belongs to Mehraula Village, in Haryana. She lives with her three daughters and two sons. Life was very good till her husband a wrestler, employed by the government was alive. With his untimely death she had to leave Delhi and life became tough. Initially, she earned a living raising some livestock. But that didn't go too far and soon she had to take work up as a labourer to make ends meet.
The Congress led UPA Government launched the mid-day meal scheme, that not only benefited the children but also provided lakhs of women like Raseedan a livelihood. She has now been with the school for a year.
Today, Raseedan is a happy woman who loves her job and never wants to stop working. She says "The financial freedom that this job gives me makes me very happy." She wants to provide a comfortable and secure life for her children who have lived through hard times.
By 2011-12 Congress-led UPA government allocated Rs 9,890 crore for the mid-day meal scheme. That is 7.5 times the budget allocated by the NDA government (Rs 1,325 crore) in 2003-04.

UPA government has empowered every Indian: Rahul Gandhi
Decisions once in the hands of a few are now in the hands of everyone, said Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi. "Today nobody can refuse a poor man when he asks for a job. Nobody can refuse a poor man when he asks for his right to food. Nobody can stop an Indian when he goes and asks a question to his government," Rahul Gandhi said.
UPA's achievements have to be measured in terms of the landmark legislations introduced in the last ten years, and their long term benefits in reforming governance and benefiting India's poorer sections, farmers, women, children -- Right to Food, Right to Information, Land Acquisition Act, Lokpal Bill.
"We brought the Land Acquisition Act...howsoever poor a man may be, if his land is taken he would now have to be compensated with four times the market price of his land (in rural areas)," Rahul Gandhi said.
The Congress party has led from the front in India's fight against hunger by bringing the Food Security Act. Bhumi Pednekar recently appeared in the comedy Thank You For Coming and the film invited some extreme reactions from the viewers. While some praised the film for its bold concept, some shamed it for that. In an exclusive conversation with Bollywood Bubble host Akash Bhatnagar, Bhumi spoke about the latter group of people and slammed them for the shaming. She expressed her disappointment towards people who didn’t criticise the film but its intent. The actress discussed the prevalent gender bias and how people never took offence when she was a part of such stories told from a male perspective. She pointed out how Pankaj Tripathi and Akshay Kumar starrer OMG 2 was supported by the same people who shamed her film, when somewhere they dealt with the same subject. Bhumi revealed if not getting any support from women within the industry disappointed her. She highlighted the hypocrisy of the situation that people accept objectification of women but have a problem with them talking about their sexuality. You can watch the entire conversation here.
