    Rapid technology adoption, online business platforms and virtual operating models are the future of work. Today’s technology portfolio comprises a dynamic mix of centralized, decentralized and federated services. Increasingly technology leaders of large organizations are not only embracing a diverse set of responsibilities, they are playing a key role in helping organizations adapt to the unknown and transform risks into opportunities. A new IBM Institute for Business Value CIO study revealed that since 2019 enterprises in India have taken massive leaps in the adoption of technology platforms and services. CIOs in India reported maturity in hybrid cloud operations increased 850%, followed by process automation and intelligent workflows at 536%. While 69% of CIOs in India reported that their teams played a vital role in driving their organizations’ pandemic response; organizational complexity and regulatory constraints are identified as the key challenges. Organizations continue accelerating their digital transformation with focus on achieving business objectives over the next three years. The Study highlighted that in addition to extending enterprise cloud estates, CIOs in India identified Automation, 5G, AI, IoT and Cybersecurity as their top technology investments in the next three years. In addition, CIOs in India expect technology to have the greatest impact on customer experience (43%) followed by process automation (41%) and sustainability initiatives (38%).

    It is a fact that there is a sharp rise in the challenge of an ongoing hybrid workplace, there is 80% of CIOs in India said that they have implemented remote work strategies, but only 24% expect remote workplace changes from the COVID-19 pandemic to become permanent.     As per Capgemini and Efma reports, 95% of executives believe their current outdated legacy systems and technological capabilities are unable to fully optimize their data for customer-centric growth strategies. Retail banks are currently lagging in their ability to offer true omnichannel experiences, as customers pivot to competitors that offer more personalized experiences. 75% of customers surveyed are attracted to FinTechs’ cost-effective and seamless services, significantly raising their digital banking expectations. However, traditional banks are struggling to deliver, with 70% of banking executives concerned they lack sufficient data analysis capabilities. Therefore, with customers now able to switch providers at the tap of a screen, it is critical for banks to better leverage data and Artificial Intelligence to tailor the experience, create stronger connections and maximize customer value. The surge of FinTechs within the industry has caused a paradigm shift in what consumers now expect from their banking experience, challenging the revenue and relevancy of many traditional providers. In the report’s ‘Voice of the Customer’ survey, about 75% of respondents said they are attracted to these new agile competitors as they offer fast, easy-to-use products and experiences that are readily available while remaining low in cost. On the other hand, nearly half of respondents said their current banking relationships were neither rewarding (49%) nor emotionally connected (48%). 52% said banking was not “fun.” To keep pace with these rivals, retail banks will need to rethink their business models and focus on driving greater customer engagement.

    With enhanced data governance models, banks can collect proprietary customer insights to improve the competitiveness of their digital marketing capabilities.     We have learnt how data transmission and transactions became critical, as consumers dramatically increased their use of online services for things like shopping, healthcare and entertainment. Businesses rapidly adapted to this changing behaviour and the market uncertainties that came with it. The ability to quickly pivot in response to rapid change under very tight timelines was once almost unimaginable, but companies that are data-driven thrived. A study by Tableau and YouGov among IT decision-makers in Singapore, Australia, India and Japan, found that 82% of data-driven companies derived critical advantages during the pandemic by making faster strategic decisions and by making their businesses more agile. Rapid technological innovation works best when data is easily accessible, and enterprises are best served when they adopt modern technologies like open source database software.

    In a Red Hat survey, 52% of Asia-Pacific respondents said they use open source databases, highlighting the prominence of open source in the region. Unlike proprietary databases, open source databases enable developers to ‘fail fast’, a concept in DevOps and agile, whereby developers work with small increments of code that allow them to detect problems early and fix them while still in development. Open source databases enable developers to rapidly try new capabilities that speed innovation and improve the efficiency of their projects.
