  • Sophisticated Tech To Dupe People

Scammers are using advanced technology to dupe people. This includes using voice morphing software to impersonate real people, such as bank representatives or government officials. They may also use fake phone numbers that appear to be from legitimate organizations. Cyber criminals are using artificial intelligence to make clones of people's voices to pretend to be your friend or family member and scam your money.

"Like Video" scam is a type of phone scam that targets social media users. The scammer will call the victim and claim to be from a social media company, such as Facebook or Instagram. They will then tell the victim that they have won a prize or a contest, but that they need to "like" a certain video in order to claim it.

If you take the call forward and reply to the person, they will tempt you into earning thousands of rupees just by liking a video, which is actually a malicious website that will steal the victim's personal information. The scam then proceeds through multiple steps which means people have earned a couple of hundred bucks for their efforts.

  • Gen AI and Deep Fakes Manipulate Elections??

There are possibilities that the coming election could depend on AI deepfake videos and images. Deepfakes are becoming increasingly sophisticated, and it is becoming more difficult to distinguish them from real videos. This means that they could be used to spread misinformation and influence voters.

The ease of creating AI deepfake videos and images is a major concern for the upcoming election season. Deepfakes are videos or images that have been manipulated to make it look like someone is saying or doing something they never said or did. They can be used to spread misinformation, damage someone's reputation, or even sway an election.

Import restrictions on laptops and tablets affect India!!

    By VARINDIA | 20 views

  • Why did India ban import of laptops?

The government on Thursday restricted the import of laptops, tablets and computers with immediate effect for security reasons and to promote domestic manufacturing. Laptops and tablets account for a fraction of India’s annual import of electronics of more than $60 billion.

The ban of import of Laptops, tablets and computers will add another layer of incentive for local manufacturing to the existing incentives worth $2 billion assured under the Productivity-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme. India is targeting annual production worth $300 billion by 2026 and the restrictions on unlimited imports will compel companies like Dell, Acer, Samsung, LG Electronics, Apple, Lenovo and HP to enhance their assembling or manufacturing facilities in India.

  • Cybersecurity attacks - ‘still alive and well’

#Cybersecurityattacks are still a significant concern and remain a persistent threat in today's digital landscape. Despite advancements in security measures, cybercriminals continue to evolve their tactics, exploit vulnerabilities, and target individuals, organizations, and even governments.

The rapidly expanding digital infrastructure, increased connectivity, and the growing reliance on technology have created new opportunities for cyber attackers. They employ various techniques such as malware, phishing, ransomware, social engineering, and distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks to compromise systems, steal sensitive data, disrupt services, and extort money.

Cybersecurity attacks are still alive and well in 2023. In fact, they are becoming more sophisticated and targeted than ever before. This is due to a number of factors, including the increasing use of technology in our everyday lives, the growing sophistication of cybercriminals, and the increasing value of data.

  • Hash code Fraud

Hash code fraud is a new type of cybercrime that is becoming increasingly common. The hash code fraud’ through which hackers hack their target’s phone and steal personal data to commit financial fraud.

In hash code fraud, cybercriminals send victims a text message or email that appears to be from a legitimate source, such as a bank or credit card company. The message will often state that the victim's account has been suspended or that there is suspicious activity on their account.

The message will then direct the victim to a website that looks like the website of the legitimate company. On this website, the victim will be asked to enter their personal information, including their name, address, phone number, and credit card number. Once the victim has entered their information, the cybercriminals will use it to commit financial fraud.

  • Bank stocks might slide more

With increasing digitalization, #cybersecurity threats are a growing concern for the banking sector. #cybersecurity attacks can result in reputational damage, financial losses, and legal liabilities. Secondly, the banking sector is highly competitive, and banks may face challenges from new entrants such as fintech companies and other non-bank financial institutions.

All it seems, risks to financial stability have increased and called for continued vigilance although actions by advanced economies have calmed market stress. International Monetary Fund chief Kristalina Georgieva reiterated her view that 2023 would be another challenging year, with global growth slowing to below 3% due to scarring from the pandemic, the war in Ukraine and monetary tightening.

The change in the Regulatory has impacted the profitability and operational efficiency of banks. For example, increased regulation may lead to higher compliance costs and lower profitability, which has witnessed the collapse of US-based Silicon Valley Bank. A week on, a second US regional bank — Signature Bank — has been shut down, a third — First Republic Bank — has been propped up, Credit Suisse — has been averted after it was taken over by UBS. Recent stress in the banking sector and the possibility of a follow-on credit crunch brings the US closer to recession

  • AI chatbots to change the behaviour of internet

Sources reveal that the big tech giants will be integrating #ChatGPT or similar technology into their search products, allowing people to get direct answers or engage in a conversation, rather than merely receiving a list of links after typing in a word or question. How will this change the way people relate to search engines? Are there risks to this form of human–machine interaction?

#ElonMusk was one of the first investors and backers of #OpenAI, which created ChatGPT. However, he now believes that it has become closed-source. AI is one of the greatest threats to the survival of humanity,” Musk said at the World Government Summit in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, immediately after discussing the creation of ChatGPT.

The faster adoption of artificial intelligence models over the past few years has been faster than almost anyone expected. Some advances have left society scrabbling to adapt. Teachers are struggling to stop students using chatbots to write their essays, artists claim they are losing paid work to image-creating AIs and efforts are under way in some places to replace journalists with large language models.

Microsoft’s Bing uses ChatGPT, Google’s AI-powered search engine, Bard and now we are going to witness Baidu’s ERNIE Bot, will be available in March. All three companies are using large language models (LLMs). LLMs create convincing sentences by echoing the statistical patterns of text they encounter in a large database. Open AI has started off as an open-source non-profit, after investment done by Microsoft it’s now closed-source and for-profit.

Chatbots empowered by artificial intelligence can increasingly engage in natural conversations and build relationships with users. Before these announcements, a few smaller companies had already released AI-powered search engines. “Search engines are evolving into this new state, where you can actually start talking to them, and converse with them li

  • India's vision to setup Semiconductor eco-system

#Semiconductorchips are the brain behind most electrical and electronic equipment that require some form of computing intelligence. Beginning from smartphones to electric vehicles, semiconductor chips are required everywhere. India is already a major hub for semiconductor research, chip design, and equipment engineering, but its future potential is even greater. As electronics is now the second biggest import cost after energy.

India’s semiconductor demand is expected to more than double to $64 billion by 2026. The government launched a Rs 76,000 crore semiconductor scheme that aims to establish semiconductor and display fabrication facilities and the corresponding chip ecosystem.

India’s goal is to become a world leader in the semiconductor industry. Domestic semiconductor consumption is expected to cross $80 billion in 2026. It is a known fact that most of the chips are manufactured in Taiwan. TSMC, the world's largest contract chip manufacturer, started making semiconductor chips in 1987. According to estimates, 90% of 5 nanometre chips are mass-produced in Taiwan by TSMC. However, the tensions between China and Taiwan have led to a global chip shortage.

Increasing tensions between the US and China are encouraging global chip makers to change their supply locations. This has a paradigm shift and these chip makers are currently concentrated on moving to East and Southeast Asia. Both the Indian government and the Tata group are placing their bets to ensure this shift will make India a new hub for semiconductor technology.

The United States and India’s semiconductor groups have teamed up to reinforce their cooperation in the global semiconductor industry. India holds over 6 percent of the world’s rare earth reserves, some of which are vital to the production of semiconductors, and Indian companies have been pushing the government to take advantage of this fact.

  • 2.5 billion Google Chrome users at risk

#GoogleChrome is a popular web browser used by billions of people worldwide and now it is under the risk. These vulnerabilities would allow hackers to exploit and take control of an affected system. An attacker can run commands or code on a Google Chrome OS device without user’s permission.

Billions of users around the world are using the famous web browser Google Chrome. The risk of data threats is ever increasing. A report by Imperva Red has discovered a vulnerability in Google Chrome and Chromium-based browsers that put the data of more than 2.5 billion users at risk.

A vulnerability named CVE-2022-3656 allows the theft of personal information such as cloud provider logins and crypto wallets. According to the blog, the vulnerability was discovered during an assessment of how the browser interacts with the file system, with widespread flaws primarily related to how the browser handles symlinks.

A symbolic link is a type of file that points to another file or directory. The linked file or directory can then be treated by the operating system as if it existed where the symlink is. It claims that a symlink can be helpful for creating shortcuts, changing file paths, or for more flexible file organization.

Imperva Red explains how Google is affecting Chrome by saying that a hacker may have created a false website promoting a new crypto wallet service. Websites can trick a user into creating a new wallet, by asking them to download their “recovery” key.

Imperva Red says that it notified Google of the vulnerability and the issue was fully resolved in Chrome 108. It is advisable for users to always keep their software up to date in order to protect against such vulnerabilities.

With this impact, the website might then deceive the user into creating a new wallet.

  • Global PC shipments

As per Gartner, this marks the largest quarterly shipment decline since Gartner began tracking the PC market in the mid-1990s. For the entire year, PC shipments reached 286.2 million units in 2022, a 16.2% decrease from 2021 due to recession fears and increased inflation.

Experts feel since many consumers already have relatively new PCs that were purchased during the pandemic, a lack of affordability is superseding any motivation to buy, causing consumer PC demand to drop to its lowest level in years.

At the same time, the enterprise PC market is also being impacted by a slowing economy and at the same time, the PC demand among enterprises began declining in the third quarter of 2022, but the market has now shifted from softness to deterioration. Enterprise buyers are extending PC lifecycles and delaying purchases, meaning the business market will likely not return to growth until 2024.

While Lenovo maintained 24% market share at the top, the company experienced its steepest decline. Lenovo's shipments fell in all regions except in Japan, declining over 30% in EMEA and Latin America.

HP and Dell also experienced historically steep declines. HP was hit hardest in the EMEA market, where shipments decreased 44 per cent year-over-year. For Dell, weak demand in the large business market impacted shipments in the second half of 2022.

The Asia-Pacific market excluding Japan declined 29.4% year-over-year, mainly due to the market in China. The PC industry experienced very unusual ups and downs over the past 11 years. After the extraordinary growth period between 2020 and 2021 due to the pandemic, the market has clearly begun a downward trend which will continue until the beginning of 2024, say experts of Gartner.

While the network boom and social media interaction has brought the world closer in the last decade, this advent of socializing has also created opportunities for cybercriminals to exploit users’ vulnerabilities through social engineering tactics. Thus, there has been a major shift from the network and device-based attacks to social engineering attacks

#Cybersecurity is important because it protects all categories of data from theft and damage. This includes sensitive data, personally identifiable information (PII), protected health information (PHI), personal information, intellectual property, data, and governmental and industry information systems. Without a cybersecurity program, your organization cannot defend itself against data breach campaigns, which makes it an irresistible target for cybercriminals.

The reason attributed to the global shift from physical to digital spaces, data privacy has become indispensable for cybersecurity and user privacy. Digitisation is accelerating at an unprecedented rate.

Business leaders can no longer solely rely on out-of-the-box cybersecurity solutions like antivirus software and firewalls, cybercriminals are getting smarter and their tactics are becoming more resilient to conventional cyber defenses.

#Databreaches and cyberattacks can cause devastating damages. Organizations need to proactively protect their data and regularly update their protective measures. Data protection is to safeguard important information from corruption, compromise or loss.

Companies spend considerable time and effort getting ready by identifying the data that needs to be backed up, categorizing this data, ensuring it is held for the amount of time required for the business, and covering regulatory requirements. There is a need to defend against the fastest growing threat in cybersecurity today.

  • “WORK” can be demystified...

The pandemic may have made some tech companies surprisingly rich, but the environment in which they're trying to make money now is simply ... harder. It's clear that there are headwinds for the industry after a period of unsustainable growth coming out of the pandemic, iOS privacy changes, growing competition and macro headwinds.

As a result, the top four firms - #TataConsultancyServices, Infosys, HCL Tech & Wipro- added only 28,836 employees in the second quarter ending September, a massive 45 percent drop from the 52,842 added in the previous quarter.

These are not encouraging news for the $227 billion-strong Indian IT industry. But it is on an expected line. When the world is fighting during high inflations and Russia-Ukraine induced economic uncertainty, IT spending is likely to come down in the near future.

The Big Tech companies represented by FAANGM (Facebook, Apple, #Amazon, Netflix, Google and Microsoft) have crashed in 2022, passing through unprecedented times, with the value of this group falling 36% to date which is about double the rate of the rest of the US stock market (S&P500).

These unprecedented times impact the Tech companies Globally. General thesis is cloud adoption slowing, data center has become cost center, disruption from outside Silicon Valley, and secular growth days are over.

Tech companies that enjoyed strong growth in the early days of the pandemic are feeling the effects of a new reality of high inflation, rising interest rates, currency headwinds, and other issues on their income statements. The slowdown in personal computer sales and digital advertising seen earlier this year appears to be spreading to areas such as cloud computing that were thought to be resistant to economic weakness.

The overall macroeconomic climate has necessitated that the global tech giants take a more cautious, measured, and strategic approach with their investments going into 2023.

  • Is WhatsApp a Surveillance tool???

#Telegram's founder Pavel Durov has accused WhatsApp of being a surveillance tool after hackers were able to hack into smartphones of various users, because of a vulnerability in WhatsApp's video sharing and playback features. The messaging app WhatsApp has been nothing but a surveillance tool for prying eyes.

#Meta recently revealed that WhatsApp users can get hacked because of a vulnerability in their video downloading and playback, which hackers can use to get full access to just about everything that’s on the WhatsApp user’s phone. This not only includes your emails and photos, but also other communications, especially SMSes from your banks, and app data from your banking and payment apps.

Talking about WhatsApp's security and privacy, WhatsApp claims to provide end-to-end encryption for all texts, chats, and video calls. However, many times the app has been victim to bugs and security issues that often-raised questions about its privacy.

GB #WhatsApp is a clone of the Meta-owned messaging app WhatsApp, which may be spying on Indian users and reading their chats, according to a report by ESET, the maker of NOD32 antivirus. The cloned third-party version of WhatsApp isn’t available on Google Play. Hence, the versions of the clone app available on various download websites are riddled with malware.

This is not the first time that the Telegram founder has dragged WhatsApp for being prone to security issues. Earlier, Durov said that "WhatsApp will never be secure" unless the company makes some fundamental changes to it. But till then he advised people to stay away from the app to save their smartphones from being hacked.

Last month WhatsApp issued a notice about a bug that was patched in newer versions of the app. The “critical” rated security vulnerability would have affected WhatsApp's Android app and allowed hackers to remotely send malware on a user's smartphone during a video call.

  • Defi bugs to steal cryptocurrency

The FBI has observed cyber criminals exploiting vulnerabilities in the smart contracts governing DeFi platforms to steal investors' #cryptocurrency," the federal law enforcement agency said. Many of the raids on cryptocurrency in recent years have been tied back to state-sponsored actors, most notably North Korean operatives.

Attackers have used various methods to hack and steal cryptocurrency from DeFi platforms, including initiating flash loans that trigger exploits in the platforms' smart contracts and exploiting signature verification flaws in their token bridge to withdraw all investments.

The agency has also observed cybercriminals manipulating crypto price pairs by exploiting chains of vulnerabilities, including the DeFi platforms' use of a single price oracle and then conducting leveraged trades to bypass slippage checks. Oracles are third-party services that allow smart contracts within blockchains to receive external data from outside of their ecosystem.

In fact, it is claimed that Pyongyang stole $400m in crypto assets in 2021 alone. The FBI also linked the $618m heist at Ronin Network in March – the biggest theft of cryptocurrency in history – to North Korean actors.

The Feds also warned investors to avoid #DeFi investment pools with limited joining timeframes and rapid deployment of smart contracts, as well as those that use open-source code. Back in July, the US State Department increased its reward for information on North Korean state-backed hackers to $10m. Pyongyang has also been blamed for the theft of $281m from Singapore-headquartered cryptocurrency exchange KuCoin in 2020.

As per the source, in 2019, a UN report claimed that the Kim Jong-un regime had stolen $2bn from banks and crypto-exchanges to fund its weapons of mass destruction programs.

  • Does Volatility Really Matter?

#Cryptocurrency is any form of currency that exists digitally or virtually and uses cryptography to secure transactions. Cryptocurrency is a digital payment system that doesn't rely on banks to verify transactions. Crypto has been in headlines for its good and bad reasons with its volatile nature. So, does volatility in crypto really matter? Then why is there still buying when Bitcoin had a 70% crash?

#Bitcoin and cryptocurrency, is highly volatile in nature. Crypto prices soar and then seem to crash almost as quickly, while rumors, sentiment and fundamental developments are quickly factored into the market, because crypto generates no cash flow, traders have to rely on changes in sentiment to drive the price. Bitcoin prices in particular have shown a degree of seasonality to date, appearing to fall in value to lesser or greater extents in the spring before bouncing back in early summer.

Over the past seven days, crypto markets have plunged a whopping 24%, shedding $320 billion from total market capitalization. That figure, which encompasses all cryptocurrencies, fell to an 18-month low beneath $900 billion this week, marking a 70% drawdown since November.

The massive sell-off has paused a little today as markets recaptured that $900 billion level, but all digital asset prices are still bleeding out on a macro scale. This is nothing new, however, since it happened in 2015 and then again in 2018, resulting in 80% collapses in prices and a long-drawn-out period of consolidation known as crypto winter.

A report says, many fintech organisations are still buying more Bitcoin, despite deep losses across the cryptocurrency market. An expert says, the current selloff has been triggered by a wider risk-off sentiment that also impacted many areas of global stock markets. It’s happening as inflation is running red-hot and, therefore, encouraging central banks to tighten monetary policies, putting at risk the liquidity that has ben

  • After Metaverse, Petaverse is eyeing to influence the gaming industry

Metaverse is an evolution to the internet and is expanding rapidly, major businesses and brands are picking up the tools needed to fill the virtual void and deliver immersive online experiences. Adobe, known for its photo- and video-editing software, released a metaverse playbook and announced partnerships with Coca Cola, NASCAR, Epic Games and NVIDIA on a range of metaverse-related projects. The company says, hundreds of brands are already using its existing 3D tools to create interactive content, adding that demand for tools used to create photorealistic replicas of their products grew 100% from a year ago. Metaverse-based digital twins are just now being looked at by commercial and technical industries, as well as B2C and B2B. This is because the metaverse is just now being looked at for its potential applications. The one thing they all have in common is the need for the creation of digital twins for all the goods that the brand is representing. With the much-scouted technology called digital twin, which is a digital representation of real-world entities — an object, system or process — that is synchronized with the real world. With sensors that relay information and two-way Internet of Things object connections, this technology can synchronize the digital environment with the physical world and vice versa. It has the potential to deliver new and exciting virtual worlds, the metaverse also has tremendous uses in generating precise replicas of the real world. There are plenty of technologies like Conversational AI, XR, VR, digital humans, synthetic media that have grown before the metaverse but seem poised to work well within it. Metaverse is a logical next step to what comes after the smartphone and the Internet as we know them now.

Paytm management overvalued their share | Digital Currency | VARINDIA News Hour

The initial public offering of Paytm's parent company, One97 Communications, has made history by launching India's biggest ever initial public offer worth Rs 18,300 crore, at the time where the market does not have an appetite for such a large listing. The company has amassed over 50 million strong active consumer base and 25 million merchant base. A higher valuation could have been achieved but we decided to price it at a level where everyone makes money,” said Madhur Deora, group chief financial officer at Paytm, after the public issue. The stock was issued at Rs2,150, got listed at Rs1,950, hit a high of Rs1,955 and then went into a relentless decline. Paytm has its hands full with multiple business verticals ranging from payment gateway, consumer lending and various financial services, among others. Now investors and analysts seem to lack faith as they questioned the company's lack of profits and lofty valuation, whereas the competitors of Paytm including Amazon, Flipkart, Google and others are offering almost the same services. As per Axis Securities, a broking firm, says, “Globally, profit-making payment companies are trading at median nine-times of future earnings, whereas One97 Communication, a loss-making company, is valued at 49.7-times its FY21 revenues.

Paytm will find it challenging to expand its business going ahead. “Paytm’s payments-based business model has been disrupted by Unified Payment Interface, a real-time retail payment system developed by government-backed National Payments Corporation of India or NPCI. As per various published reports, Paytm made an initial public offer of Rs18,300 crore in November 2021. A major part of the issue, i.e., Rs10,000 crore was offer for sale from the existing shareholders who used the IPO to harvest their returns. The company has done lots of financial engineering, despite of that, Paytm's stock

  • Vehicle electrification becomes a strategic priority for the automotive market in India

    #Apoteket #EV ##TCS

Domestic and Foreign Automakers in the EV race

Vehicle electrification has become a strategic priority for the stakeholders of the automotive market in India. Therefore, everybody is undergoing the essential ‘upskilling’ phase to be future-ready for electric vehicles (EV). To give an impetus to this idea, India plans to prioritize the electrification of the two-wheelers, three-wheelers and buses. For the past few years, automakers, government (central and the state governments) and component manufacturers are amending/building new policy frameworks that favour EVs and help the market’s transition towards cleaner technology from traditional ICE. As per GlobalData, “Two-wheelers, three-wheelers and buses are clearly the ‘key beneficiaries’ of the government schemes with the passenger EVs being on the ‘backburner’ presently. However, the high modal share of the three completely justifies the reason and these segments can help to achieve the 30% new vehicle electrification target by 2030. Passenger electric cars, being a ‘big ticket’ purchase, face a challenge to gain volume for personal mobility in the price-sensitive Indian market.

Furthermore, they also face headwinds from factors such as range anxiety, lack of charging infrastructure and alternative fuel vehicles (CNG). Despite the passenger EVs market being small in terms of volume, it holds high growth potential. Most automakers are optimistic about the future of electric cars in India. Both domestic and foreign automakers are in the EV race. However, only a few have product offerings for the market while others still have their products under development or have plans to import their EVs – which is taking time. Experts say EVs are still in the early-stage in India. While affordable EVs are picking up pace, things are tough for luxury automakers due to high import duties, which restrain them from importing vehicles as CBUs to sense check the market trends and custom
