International Women's Day (IWD), originally called International Working Women's Day, is marked on March 8 every year.
In different regions the focus of the celebrations ranges from general celebration of respect, appreciation and love towards women to a celebration for women's economic, political and social achievements. Started as a Socialist political event, the holiday blended in the culture of many countries, primarily Eastern Europe, Russia, and the former Soviet bloc. In many regions, the day lost its political flavour, and became simply an occasion for men to express their love for women in a way somewhat similar to a mixture of Mother's Day and St Valentine's Day. In other regions, however, the original political and human rights theme designated by the United Nations runs strong, and political and social awareness of the struggles of women worldwide are brought out and examined in a hopeful manner. It has however been responded to critically by movements such as 'lads month' who feel it is unfair to host such a day.

আমি তো আপনাকে দেখিনি চুপ থেকে কোন অন্যায় মেনে নিতে!
আমার মা যখন মারা যান তখন আমার বয়স আড়াই বছর। এতদিনে কখনো আমার এক মুহুর্ত মাকে খুব দরকার এখন,
মনে হয়নি এটা। আজ মনে হচ্ছে , ভীষণ রকম মনে হচ্ছে মাকে দরকার ,একটু শক্ত করে জড়িয়ে ধরার জন্য দরকার।
আমার আপনাকে দরকার মা। আমার এখন বেঁচে থাকার জন্য আপনাকে দরকার মা।

অবশেষে ধর্ষণ চেষ্টাকারীর নাম জানালেন ঢালিউডের আলোচিত নায়িকা পরীমানি।
নিজের বাসায় গণমাধ্যম কর্মীদের সামনে এক সংবাদসম্মেলনে এ নিয়ে বিস্তারিত জানান।
তিনি জানান, ঘটনার মূল হোতা নাসির ইউ মাহমুদ (নাসিরউদ্দিন আহমেদ) নামে এক ব্যক্তি। উত্তরা বোট ক্লাব নামে এক ক্লাবের সাবেক সভাপতি তিনি। পেশায় ব্যবসায়ী। ঘটনার দিন রাত ১২টার পর পরিচিতজনদের নিয়ে ওই ক্লাবে যান পরীমনি। ক্লাবটি আশুলিয়ার বিরুলিয়া।সেদিন চারজন মদ্যপ ব্যক্তি পরীমনিকে শারীরিকভাবে নির্যাতন করেন। চড়-থাপ্পড় মারেন। গায়ে আঘাত করেন। এক পর্যায়ে একজন তাকে নেশাদ্রব্য খাইয়ে দেয় এবং ধর্ষণের চেষ্টা করে।
পরী বলেন, বুধবার রাত ১২ টার দিকে অমি নামের একজন পরিচিত ব্যক্তির সঙ্গে উত্তরা বোট ক্লাবে যাই। সঙ্গে আমার ব্যক্তিগত রূপসজ্জাশিল্পী জিমিও ছিলেন। ক্লাবটি সেখানে আর কেউ ছিল না। তবে পরে সেখানে নাসির ইউ মাহমুদ নামে এক ব্যক্তি আসে। তিনি নিজেকে উত্তরা বোট ক্লাবের সাবেক প্রেসিডেন্ট পরিচয় দেন।
কাঁদতে কাঁদতে সাংবাদিকদের উদ্দেশে পরীমনি বলেন, ‘আপনারা আমাকে ৫ মিনিট কাঁদতে দেখছেন। কিন্তু আমি গত চারদিন ধরে কাঁদছি। ওই লোক আমাকে কি সব বিশ্রি কথা বলেছিলো। আমি বলতে পারছি না। আমি পাগল হয়ে যাচ্ছি। আমার জায়গায় আপনারা থাকলে হয়ত কথাও বলতে পারতেন না। আমি ওইখানে অজ্ঞান হয়ে গিয়েছিলাম। ওয়েটাররা ধরে আমাকে নামিয়ে দেয়। সিসি ক্যামে সব রেকর্ড আছে। আমার মনে হয়েছে বিষয়টি তাদের পূর্বপরিকল্পিত।’
একপর্যায়ে অঝরো কাঁদতে কাঁদতে পরীমনি চিৎকার করে বলেন, ‘আমি নিরাপত্তাহীনতায় ভুগছি। তবে আপনারা জেনে রাখুন, আমি আত্মহত্যা করার মতো মেয়ে নই। যদি মরে যাই তবে বুঝবেন, আমাকে মেরে ফেলা হয়েছে। আমার সঙ্গে অন্যায় করা হয়েছে। আমি এর বিচার চাই। মরলে আমি আমার বিচার নিয়ে মরব।’
এমন সব তথ্য দিয়ে অসুস্থ হয়ে পড়েন পরীমনি। সংবাদ সম্মেলন ছেড়ে অন্য কক্ষে চলে যান।
এর আগে রোববার সন্ধ্যা ৭টা ৫৩ মিনিটে নিজের ভেরিফায়েড ফেসবুকে একটি স্ট্যাটাস দেন পরীমনি, যা নিয়ে সোশ্যাল মিডিয়া তোলপাড় চলছে।
প্রধানমন্ত্রী শেখ হাসিনার কাছে বিচার চেয়ে ওই স্ট্যাটাসের শুরুতে এ নায়িকা লেখেন, ‘আমাকে রেপ এবং হত্যার চেষ্টা করা হয়েছে। আমি শারীরিক নির্যাতনের শিকার হয়েছি। আমি এর বিচার চাই।’
