ഒൻപത് വര്‍ഷമായി തുടരുന്ന തൂത്തന്ഖാമന്റെ ശവകുടീരത്തിന്റെ പുനരുദ്ധാരണ പ്രവര്‍ത്തനങ്ങളുടെ ഭാഗമായാണ് ആയിരക്കണക്കിന് വര്‍ഷങ്ങള്‍ക്ക് മുൻപ് ഈജിപ്തിന്റെ ഫറവോയായിരുന്ന തൂത്തന്ഖാമന്റെ ചിത്രങ്ങള്‍ പുറത്തുവിട്ടിരിക്കുന്നത്. ശവകുടീരത്തിലെ ചിത്രങ്ങളുടെയടക്കം കേടുപാടുകള്‍ പരിഹരിക്കാന്‍ ശ്രമം നടന്നിരുന്നു. ഈജിപ്ത് തന്നെയാണ് തൂത്തന്ഖാമന്റെ മുഖത്തിന്റെ മമ്മി രൂപം പുറത്തുവിട്ടിരിക്കുന്നത്.
തൂത്തന്ഖാമന്റെ ശവകുടീരത്തിന്റെ പുനരുദ്ധാരണ പ്രവര്‍ത്തനങ്ങളുടെ ഭാഗമായാണ് ആയിരക്കണക്കിന് ഈജിപ്ഷ്യന്‍ പുരാവസ്തു വകുപ്പ് തന്നെയാണ് തൂത്തന്ഖാമന്റെ മുഖത്തിന്റെ മമ്മി രൂപം പുറത്തുവിട്ടത്.പതിനെട്ടാം വയസില്‍ മരിച്ച തൂത്തന്ഖാമന്റെ ശരീരം മമ്മിയാക്കിയാണ് സൂക്ഷിച്ചിരുന്നത്. ഭൂഗര്‍ഭ അറയിലെ കാലാവസ്ഥ നിയന്ത്രിത ചില്ലുകൂട്ടിലാണ് നിലവില്‍ തൂത്തന്ഖാമന്റെ മമ്മി സൂക്ഷിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത്. ഈജിപ്തിലെ ലക്‌സോര്‍ നഗരത്തിന് തെക്കായി രാജാക്കന്മാരുടെ താഴ്‌വാരം എന്ന് വിളിക്കപ്പെടുന്ന പ്രദേശത്തു നിന്നായിരുന്നു തൂത്തന്ഖാമന്റെ മമ്മി കണ്ടെടുത്തത്.

സി 1322ല്‍ പതിനെട്ടാം വയസില്‍ ദുരൂഹസാഹചര്യത്തില്‍ മരിച്ച തൂത്തന്ഖാമന്റെ കല്ലറ തുറന്നപ്പോള്‍ 11 കിലോ സ്വര്‍ണ്ണത്തില്‍ പൊതിഞ്ഞ മുഖംമൂടിയും സ്വര്‍ണ്ണ ശവപ്പെട്ടിയും വിലമതിക്കാനാവാത്ത രത്‌നങ്ങളും സ്വര്‍ണ്ണശേഖരവും ലഭിച്ചിരുന്നു.ജര്‍മ്മനിയിലെ ടബിംഗന്‍ സര്‍വ്വകലാശാലയിലെ പീറ്റര്‍ ഫാള്സ്നര് എന്ന പ്രൊഫസറുടെ നേതൃത്വത്തിലുളള ഗവേഷകസംഘത്തിന്റെ നേതൃത്വത്തിലാണ് ഇപ്പോള്‍ മമ്മിയുടെ പെട്ടി തുറന്നത്.മമ്മി പെട്ടികള്‍ക്കുള്ളില്‍ നിന്നും കണ്ടെത്തിയത്, ആവനാഴികള്‍, വില്ലുകള്‍ തുടങ്ങിവ അലങ്കരിക്കാന്‍ ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്ന നൂറുകണക്കിന് സാമഗ്രികള്‍. പൗരാണിക സിറിയയിലേതെന്ന് കരുതുന്ന ചിത്രങ്ങളുമുണ്ടായിരുന്നു അതില്‍. പരസ്പരം ആക്രമിക്കുന്ന മൃഗങ്ങളും ആടുകളുമാണ് ചിത്രങ്ങളിലുളളത്.
