Joseph Stalin, born on 18 December 1978, was the leader of Soviet Union from 1922 to 1953. He held the post of General Secretary of communist party from the mid-1920s till his death in 1953. Joseph organized a series of purges from 1936 to 1939, known as the 'Great Purge'. Under his guidance, the USSR military carried out 39,488 executions from August 1937 to November 1938 alone. Anyone who spoke against the political rule or refused to fight against the German forces were killed without going through any judicial process.
