A Billion & One Voices: The Story of Budi & Juglal
Budi and Juglal never had any means to support themselves ever. No land no oxen, not even water. They are marginal farmers who work as labour on small farms while their children used to play all day here and there. Because of the RTE launched by the UPA led Congress Government they managed to put their children in school. Now they are happy that the children are learning something. They feel education will open the door of opportunities for them.
The Congress led UPA government passed the Right To Education Act (RTE) in 2009 that makes education a Constitutional Right for every citizen. It has spent 8.7 times more than the previous government on Sarva Shiskha Abhiyaan.

A Billion & One Voices: The Story of Vijay & Anjali Das
The story of Vijay & Anjali Das shows us how political parties actually effect the common man of India. Vijay and Anjali tells us they think well of a political party when it does more work for the poor. Their experience so far has not been good. They have to pay one rupee everyday to the Trinamool party shop committee or else they are beaten and face other problems like electricity being cut off. The fear of being beaten is what keeps them quiet and they pay whatever is asked.
Anjali says with the Trinamool in power, Bengal has become very unsafe for women. Every second day they hear stories of rape which makes her scared to send her daughter out of the house. In a situation like this how will anyone be able to educate their daughters she asks.
It is the work the Congress party does that sets them apart from other political parties. Indira Gandhi did a lot for the poor. A woman who always kept her word. Vijay and Anjali want a party that will not create unrest. A party that will let them eat 2 square meals peacefully. They want Rahul Gandhi to win. They feel it will be better for the country if he comes to power and that's why they would only vote for the Congress.

Maan Singh has been living in Paharganj (New Delhi) for the last 18 years. He belongs to Rajasthan and came to Delhi looking for work. He works as a porter at the railway station.
Maan Singh says, "Its the poor man that makes the government but unfortunately people don't want to vote." He further goes on to say, "People actually do not realize the importance of their vote."
He believes that there is only one party that does anything for the poor and that is the Congress party, so he will caste his vote for the Congress in the upcoming elections as well.

A Billion & One Voices: The Story of Oommen Chandy
Oommen Chandy, Chief Minister of Kerala believes the strength of democracy is the confidence of the people. Right from his early days he's had a close association with people. Even now he is the most approachable Chief Minister who meets the common man/woman everyday for an hour. Anyone can walk into the visitation hall without a pass or an appointment to meet him.
He says, because of this close association with people he was able to solve many issues. In fact, he conducted a programme at the district level where he met thousands of people. Listening to their problems and providing on-the-spot solutions. He says, "The main beneficiary of this mass conduct programme was the Chief Minister himself " as he learnt what the hurdles were in fulfilling the needs of the people.

Born in an average middle class family in Cochin, the only thing that his parents could afford was good quality education. And Sanjay knew that he had to learn hard to get into a good college, to be able to get a good job.

At this very young age Sarita knows that 'service to the society' is very important. Following the footsteps of Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi, she plans to do just that. Hailing from Amethi her family earns a living by selling mangoes, guavas and berries. Sarita goes to school and loves to learn about different topics. She has also trained for a year at a government centre for tailoring. Attached to the Self Help Group she says "here you also get paid for the work you do".
Sarita will always vote for Rahul Gandhi as he speaks to them, understands their problems and always helps them out. Talking about other parties in U.P specifically Mayavati, she says have never come forward to help them. From the time she can remember she has seen the Congress party work for the people of Amethi.
Sarita's dream is to now learn computers so she can enhance her technical skills and learn more about her country. This young girl wants to be able to earn so she can support her family and also give something back to the society.

This is a story of a young boy who has been a boatman since the age of 6. He works hard just so he can pay his school fees. He is confident that he can do well as he speak perfect English and even knows how to work on computers. He says he uses computer to check the cricket scores and be in touch with his friends through email.
This young boy has big dreams. He wants to study till the 12th and then take up cricket professionally. He says "There are no good bowlers in the Indian cricket team anymore." This young boy wants to be famous one day and earn lots of money.
He narrates how life was when his beautiful city Varanasi, was flooded due to the rise in water level. He says, "People didn't have even clean water to drink." In that time of chaos Congress workers came as a blessing in disguise. Not only did they provide water, food, clothes but even other basic necessities.

A Billion & One Voices: The Story of Roji John
Roji John belongs to a lower middle class family. The first in his family to join politics. His journey started way back when he was studying in Jawaharlal Nehru University. He won the NSUI elections in his student days and is now the President of National Students Union of India.
Those were the days when Rahul Gandhi had introduced an open membership in NSUI and Youth Congress. His (Rahul Gandhi) aim was to motivate young minds to join politics, contest elections and frame policies for the county. Roji John was given the task of conducting elections in different states.
His first assignment was in Chhattisgarh, where no other organization was willing to go and interact with the students. He cherishes the one month he spent in Dantewada identifying students, motivating them to join NSUI. Over there youngsters didn't join the naxal activities by choice, they were forced into it. They became part of an organization(NSUI) which had a national network. The felt empowered and in return wanted to do something for the students community in that particular area. Pradeep Bora from Assam started farming when he was in class 9, as the financial conditions at home were very bad. After he took to farming the conditions at home started improving. Today he owns 25 bigha of land and with an additional 55 bigha on lease from Aunioti Sattra he's able to cultivate different kinds of crops depending on the season. He is happy that he stands on his own feet and support his family.
Pradeep further tells us how he received a lot of help from the government. Even the gram sevak promptly responds to their queries for help. Government officials were very impressed with his sugarcane crops and jaggery making process. So, they provided him with 20 quintals of sugarcane saplings and insecticide free of cost. His produce goes to various places like Dhemaji, Jorhat, Dibrugarh and Tinsukia. Lastly he advises the unemployed educated youth of Assam, " Instead of running after jobs in vain, take up farming". They would be able to make a fine living.

Dilip works as a Quality Analyst in an IT company in Kerala. IT sector he says is once again on a boom now. Increase in revenues results in good pay. Dilip feels the UPA led Congress has done good work in the last 10 years. Especially the Right to Information Act(RTI) which helps people like him understand what's happening in the political system. In his words "RTI has got more transparency in our system". Even in his own company he has little information about what's happening at the top level. RTI can help him here as well.
Dilip feels India needs economic stability. And Congress is the only party that can keep up this momentum of boom in the IT sector.
