    Roji John belongs to a lower middle class family. The first in his family to join politics. His journey started way back when he was studying in Jawaharlal Nehru University. He won the NSUI elections in his student days and is now the President of National Students Union of India.

    Those were the days when Rahul Gandhi had introduced an open membership in NSUI and Youth Congress.     Rashida from Sikri, Amethi has seen the toughest of times. Left by her husband for another woman she was faced with a loss of status and money. Her father died, soon after her younger brother died and the entire responsibility of her family came on her shoulders.

    When her daughter reached the marriageable age, she knocked on all the doors for help. Her elder brother turned his back on her, so did her in-laws. No one was willing to help her with the expense of her daughters marriage. A few women in her village suggested she join the 'Self Help Group' and that transformed her life completely.

    The women in the Self Help Group taught her how to plant the basic crops. The group also helped her borrow money to start her own general store. Now with the money Rashida earns she is able to educate her youngest daughter in an English medium school in Lucknow. She wants to fulfill her daughters dream of becoming a doctor or district magistrate. The woman who didn't know the ABC... is now learning how to read. She says "You are blind until you are able to read for yourself."

    The Rajiv Gandhi Mahila Vikas Pariyojna initiates and encourages transformations by promoting confidence and connectivity among the poor with women as central agents of change.

    Rashida is a happy woman today, who wants to help other women in distress in the same way she was in her times of distress.

    The two great saints Sankardeva and Madhavdeva brought about a revolution of Neo-Vaishnavism in Assam. They established a number of Sattras in various parts of Assam.

    Jadavchandra Borah Bayon first came to Sattra in 1994 when he was in class five. Soon he was deeply drawn to the atmosphere there. A young priest and a professor at Dibrugarh University he talks about the preservation of this cultural revolution in Assam and the help they got from the State Government.

    He says the State Government sanctioned 17 lakhs rupees for maintenance of the Sattra guest house. The tourism department has also provided them a museum. Many of their disciples have managed to get scholarships from the CCRT (Centre for Cultural research and Training) and get a monthly stipend. They were also sanctioned 1.2 lakhs rupees every year to support their cultural activities.

    Rajesh after completing his IT education moved to Bangalore to work. He worked there for 5 years but then had to return to his native village in Kerala due to his father's illness. On returning back the biggest question was what to do. He then decided to start a dairy farm.

    He started out with 20 cows. But things were not as easy as he had hoped. Dairy feed was very expensive. Each feed bag would cost Rs. 890 and there was a requirement of 8 bags everyday. He says the Congress government was a big support to him. The government got feed at subsidized rates, that subsidy helped him save Rs. 320 daily. Today, he is proud owner of 50 cows, and has a daily output of 400 litres of milk. In fact, he's very happy that everyone from around buys the milk from him.

    With the dairy business doing well, he was also able to start an organic farm. There is a pipe that carries cow dung from the dairy into the cherry farm. He uses only organic fertilizers, nothing else. He finds complete satisfaction in his work and his father is also happy. Life is good for Rajesh.
