The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has notified the resumption date of the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), which is set to start on September 19, with the final to be played on October 15.
This league’s 2021 edition was postponed on May 4 after multiple Covid-19 cases emerged inside the bio-bubble of four different camps across two cities, forcing the BCCI and the IPL Governing Council to suspend the season indefinitely.
Ever since then, the board has been tirelessly looking out for ways to resume the curtailed edition to avoid massive financial losses. A BCCI official confirmed the recent developments during the meeting of the BCCI and Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) officials, where three venues – Dubai, Sharjah, and Abu Dhabi – have been zeroed in to complete the remaining 31 games.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India has been aiming to start the much talked-about Women’s IPL next year and it has been reported that six teams are likely to take part in the tournament. Finally, BCCI secretary Jay Shah had recently confirmed that there will be a Women’s IPL taking place next year although details on it are yet to be announced. This will be a huge step in the development of women’s cricket in India as a lot of young and unheard women have come through the ranks with the help of tournaments like these.
BCCI had been conducting a Women’s T20 Challenge comprising of three teams until the Covid-19 emerged in 2020 and there has been a constant demand in the circuit to go one step forward and conduct a full-fledged Women’s IPL. The Hundred tournament in England and the Women’s Big Bash League have all gained a lot of popularity around the cricket fraternity and the Women’s IPL is expected to be a massive success as well.
A BCCI official had noted the preparations going on to form the structure for Women’s IPL next year and confirmed that six teams will participate in the tournament. He also added that the structure of the tournament is being worked upon and mentioned the things that will have to be processed in the meantime. He concluded that the board will announce officially once the matter is agreed upon in the AGM meeting.
“We have already started working on the plan as to how many teams we can have and what window is going to suit, because we have the men’s IPL as well. As of now, we can’t share many details but yes, we are really excited for this league. Some franchises have already shown interest and are very keen to be part of this tournament. We are planning to have 6 teams to start with. Our team is working on the auction process and other important aspects of the tournament,” a top BCCI top official told Sports Tak.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has informed the prospective broadcasters that it will prefer the start time of 8 PM for IPL matches from the 2023 season. The matches are currently commencing at 7:30 PM IST and the timings are advanced on the request of Star Sports, the official broadcasters for the last five years. The broadcasting rights are up for grabs for the 2023-27 five-year cycle and the BCCI has cleared its preference to the interested parties.
In the first 10-year cycle, the IPL matches used to start at 4 PM (on the double-header days) and at 8 PM. The current official broadcaster Star’s point of contention to start at 7:30 PM was the viewership soaring and at the same time, monetisation can be high. Accordingly, the timings of the afternoon matches also preceded to 3:30 PM.
“BCCI’s preferred start times for double-headers being 4 pm and 8 pm Indian Standard Time,” BCCI communicated to interested parties, who are willing to bid for the television and digital rights of IPL, according to Cricbuzz.
Meanwhile, the BCCI extended the last date for the purchase of the ITT document by 10 days up to May 20, 2022. “Pursuant to requests from various interested parties, BCCI has now decided to further extend the date for purchasing the ITT documents till May 20, 2022. The procedure for purchasing the ITT documents is laid down in Exhibit I.

Ben Stokes, the England all-rounder, has sounded skeptical over the nature of the pitches in the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The first leg of the T20 tournament is currently taking place at two venues- The MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai and the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The pitches at both the grounds have been a tad contrasting.
The track in Mumbai has produced some high-scoring matches with targets in excess of 200 not being deemed safe for oppositions. On the contrary, targets of 150 have been tough to chase down at the Chepauk. In Chennai, as the ball gets old, batting becomes an arduous task.
