Rahul Gandhi today told the people of Haryana that their state does not need the 'Gujarat model' to grow and that such a model would be detrimental to the interests of the poor, farmers and backward classes. He also cautioned the voters against being misled by the big speeches and false dreams marketed by the BJP.
"Only a day is left for polling, and the BJP manifesto is nowhere in sight. Their leaders make big speeches and sell big dreams, but they haven't presented the manifesto to the people. They are selling the Gujarat model but Haryana does not need Gujarat model. Be it wheat production or the number of sportspersons from Haryana, the state is ahead of Gujarat," said Rahul Gandhi.
The Congress Party released its manifesto more than ten days ago, after wide consultations with people from all over the country. Close to 5 lakh people gave their inputs for the manifesto. Exposing the hypocrisy of the BJP, Rahul Gandhi said that the opposition party had no right to talk about corruption as it had failed to take action in the recruitment scam, popularly known as the Vyapam Scandal, in Madhya Pradesh. This, he said, was one among the series of corruption scandals and crony capitalism that has flourished under the BJP regime. "Let me ask you one thing, has the BJP government taken any action in the Vyapam scandal? When will they do it? Their leaders talk about corruption everywhere they go, but under the BJP government, corruption thrives and grows... They did the same in Karnataka," he said at a massive rally at the Khandwa stadium where tens of thousands of people had gathered to listen to their leader. Rahul Gandhi also criticised the so called Gujarat model of development and said that it did not matter whether it was called a 'toffee model or the tea model' because the fact was it benefitted only a select few industrialist friends of the Gujarat government. "Their ideology is that of 'India Shining'. They want to take the money and resources of the people and give it to 2-3 industrialists. They want the poor to remain poor. "The BSP, SP and the BJP have small dreams. They can't take the state forward... Within UP, the youth has been neglected and they have gone astray. They are looking for jobs. They go to Maharashtra, a Congress governed state, for better opportunities. In UP, they have made Hindus and Muslims fight six months before the elections, so that there are no real questions on progress and development...the Congress Party takes everybody along. No matter what your religion is, we will take the state forward," he said at a massive rally in Hargaon.
Mr. Gandhi also cautioned the people against the BJP, which not only plays in the hands of a few industrialists, but is also making fake promises to the people of Uttar Pradesh. "Who beats you up in Maharashtra? BJP and its ally, Shiv Sena. And then they say that they want to help you...The ideology of the BJP is to make people fight among each other, and ensure that only a few industrialists get the benefits of progress. Like in the past, the NDA is playing colourful music and distributing sweets in anticipation of winning the polls, but it will meet the same fate as in 2004 and 2009, he said.
Ridiculing BJP's Gujarat model of development, he said, "Jharkhand needs its own model of development and not any other model from outside."
The Congress leader accused the BJP of joining hands with a party like MNS of Raj Thackeray which had targeted people from Bihar and eastern Uttar Pradesh in Mumbai and Maharashtra.
