A Billion & One Voices: The Story of Budi & Juglal
Budi and Juglal never had any means to support themselves ever. No land no oxen, not even water. They are marginal farmers who work as labour on small farms while their children used to play all day here and there. Because of the RTE launched by the UPA led Congress Government they managed to put their children in school. Now they are happy that the children are learning something. They feel education will open the door of opportunities for them.
The Congress led UPA government passed the Right To Education Act (RTE) in 2009 that makes education a Constitutional Right for every citizen. It has spent 8.7 times more than the previous government on Sarva Shiskha Abhiyaan.

A Billion & One Voices: The Story of Vijay & Anjali Das
The story of Vijay & Anjali Das shows us how political parties actually effect the common man of India. Vijay and Anjali tells us they think well of a political party when it does more work for the poor. Their experience so far has not been good. They have to pay one rupee everyday to the Trinamool party shop committee or else they are beaten and face other problems like electricity being cut off. The fear of being beaten is what keeps them quiet and they pay whatever is asked.
Anjali says with the Trinamool in power, Bengal has become very unsafe for women. Every second day they hear stories of rape which makes her scared to send her daughter out of the house. In a situation like this how will anyone be able to educate their daughters she asks.
It is the work the Congress party does that sets them apart from other political parties. Indira Gandhi did a lot for the poor. A woman who always kept her word. Vijay and Anjali want a party that will not create unrest. A party that will let them eat 2 square meals peacefully. They want Rahul Gandhi to win. They feel it will be better for the country if he comes to power and that's why they would only vote for the Congress.

A Billion & One Voices: Story of Majeed
Majeed came to Mewat, Haryana 50 years back. He has seen some tough times since. He built a small hut and lived with his wife and four children. Majeed worked as a laborer, he did all kinds of jobs like breaking stones, loading bricks, digging and construction work etc. He later learnt how to drive and would drive a tractor.
As the children grew older he felt his hut became overcrowded. So he availed the Priyadarshini Awaas Yojna that provided him with financial assistance of INR 90,100 from the state for the construction of a new home in three installments.
Majeed now lives in new home with his wife, 4 children and grandchildren a very happy life.

A Billion & One Voices: The Story of RajKumar
Rajkumar a teacher from Nuhu, Haryana spends most of his time volunteering for Sehgal Foundation. His main aim is to work for the socially and financially weaker sections of society. He has helped create small groups of women in his community to bring awareness about their rights. Earlier, girls were not allowed to study in his village but now through various schemes and awareness programs girls have access to complete education.
He believes education is the only medium through which a person can overcome poverty and achieve something in life. '"A lot has changed ever since we embarked upon this mission" says Rajkumar.

A Billion & One Voices: The Story of Rajeev Gowda
Rajeev Gowda grew up in an idealist, public service focused atmosphere. His father and uncle were both involved in the 'Freedom Movement' and 'Quit India Movement'. Right from his childhood he had this urge to do his bit for the country. In his words "Take the mission forward". A professor with IIM, Bangalore and Director (Reserve Bank of India), his aim in life became to gain expertise and to harness that expertise to build a modern prosperous India.
He feels the Congress Party biggest contribution was to make India what it is today 'a united, democratic, prosperous nation filled with youngsters with hope and aspirations for a better future'. And the challenge before the Congress is to ensure that opportunities are created for those aspirations to become a reality.
Rajeev doesn't just talk, he actually gets his hands dirty. Like he did a Garbage Clean-up project with a bunch of youngsters. They went to a particular area, studied what the problem was, spoke to the community and actually got their hands dirty and cleaned the whole place up.

A Billion & One Voices: The Story of Sukhvinder Singh
Sukhvinder Singh is a scheduled caste Sikh. There was a time when folks in the village would not allow a person from the scheduled caste to enter the fields. Then the Congress party made the law that ensured equality for all. His entire village supported him and made him the headman of the village.
He says the Congress government provided him with the funds he asked for and he used that money for various developmental schemes in the village. They used MNREGA money to do sanitation work in the village. One of his biggest tasks was to get government schemes to the people. And to make people understand how they would benefit from such schemes. He says earlier people had no idea about the schemes government launched but today with so much awareness it's the people who come and say 'Find out more about this scheme and get it for us'.
Sukhvinder feels the Congress is the only party that keeps everyone together. They keep in mind the development strategies for the rich as well as the poor.

What do words like integration, rights, freedom mean to you? To Latetia Bruce Warjri, a young Khasi woman, they mean the world -- a world where she has the freedom to do what she wants to do, to go where she wants to go, a world where she can hold her head high, where she can identify with people despite differences in cultures and backgrounds.
Latetia is pursuing further studies in Law in Delhi University. "I have met so many people, who are not Khasi, who are not from Shillong...they are just like me," she says as her eyes twinkle with excitement. "I have had very fruitful three years."
She says tribals have rights, but real integration is the "integration of tribal values into the mainstream." Khasi tribe from the North East is one of the Scheduled Tribes.
Latetia's story is that of thousands of young migrants who come to Delhi and other metropolitan's in pursuit of higher education, and a better future.

Dr. Shetty having lived abroad for 13 years is happy to be home, to the country that is now filled with opportunities. Sharing his experience and give back something to the society was one of the reasons why he chose to return.
A Cardiac Surgeon in a big hospital in Mysore, Dr. Shetty talks about the various health schemes that the government provides for the poor. The most popular one being where the farmer pays only Rs. 10 a month. The hospital does cardiac surgery for as low as Rs. 70,000 and the rest is paid by the government.
They do health check up for the poor and identify their problems early and if the patient doesn't have money for the surgery it is taken care by the government. He says "Millions of people have benefited out of it."
India is very different from what it used to be 20 years back. Today he doesn't think how his poor patient will pay because he knows he will be taken care of. He says we have everything the west has, technology, expertise and most importantly the passion to treat and heal patients.

K. C. Joseph, Minister for Rural Development Planning and Culture, Kerela says that the performance of the UPA 1 and UPA 2 government are remarkable. Talking about the scenario in Kerela, during the last 5 years, central government schemes worth Rs. 70,000 Crores have been initiated in the state of Kerela.
In the national scenario today, Kerela stands ace in the list, actually we can say it is a development model for India. We say this because of so many reasons, one because we the most litterate state in India. In health sector, we are very much advanced that any other state. We are providing free medical assistance in all the government hospitals. Kerela has adopted a slogan- Development and Care. We see metro rail, airport to building an international airport this is development. All the programs announced by central government of India have been taken off successfully.
Kerela is going to become self sufficient in milk production. The rural areas of Kerela is also hugely benefited from MNREGA scheme. 1,700 crores are spent on this scheme and the income goes directly to the welfare of families. Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana has helped farmers reduce the transportation cost. E-Governance facilities have brought services of government at the the doorstep of people.

Dilip works as a Quality Analyst in an IT company in Kerala. IT sector he says is once again on a boom now. Increase in revenues results in good pay. Dilip feels the UPA led Congress has done good work in the last 10 years. Especially the Right to Information Act(RTI) which helps people like him understand what's happening in the political system. In his words "RTI has got more transparency in our system". Even in his own company he has little information about what's happening at the top level. RTI can help him here as well.
Dilip feels India needs economic stability. And Congress is the only party that can keep up this momentum of boom in the IT sector.
