    Addressing a public rally in Belgaum, Karnataka, Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi said, Congress party and Belgaum's relationship goes back to 1924 when Mahatma Gandhi came here. People of Belgaum, he said, fought against the British rule.

    "Karnataka is a state," he said, "which has progressed at a fast pace."
    "The state has made great progress in the field of Information Technology. How did this happen? It happened because of the hard-work and determination of the people of Karnataka."

    Dressed in the traditional headgear, Rahul Gandhi said, "Congress party has been very much a part of this progress. For the last 60-70 years, the Congress party has been working with the people of Karnataka to bring about progress. I will give you a few examples. First, we set up institutions like HAL, BHEL and laid down the infrastructure for science and technology to blossom in the state."

    "Then Congress party fought for the rights of the poor. When our CM Devraj ji was there, he worked to uplift the poor, dalits and backward sections. The foundation for Karnataka's progress was laid down in those years under the 20-point and Garibi Hatao programs."

"...Advaniji who once used to be the tallest leader of that party had said if article 371(J) is passed country will get divided," Gandhi, said, adding, the UPA government did it. He said Advani's view on passing article 371(J) would disintegrate the country was "incorrect". "He (Advani) said if 371(J) is passed, the country will disintegrate. We passed the 371(J) and the country was not divided. It benefited you, it gave you education, employment," Gandhi added.

    Rahul Gandhi ridiculed the Gujarat model by saying, "CM's power in states like this (Karnataka) will be towards empowering poor, getting big projects implemented, but in Gujarat model CM's power will work towards putting police force behind women, their power will also get utilised in tapping women's phones... and these very people talk about women empowerment."

Addressing an all women's rally in Tumkur, Karnataka, Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi said, "India cannot be a superpower until we empower women. Wherever women are being empowered and given a chance, those states are progressing rapidly."
"We want to give women an equal opportunity in politics...In Panchayats, in Assembly, in Parliament, more women should be visible," he said.
Launching an attack on the BJP and RSS, Rahul Gandhi said the opposition does not respect women. "Their 'ideological sangathan' doesn't have a place for women," the Congress Vice President said.
"We want to use your strength in the progress of this country. We want to open doors for women, doors of schools, hospitals and Parliament, as without you, there is no progress."
