Long due *One Rank One Pension* (OROP) scheme for Defense forces was passed by Congress in February 2014.
The UPA government on February 17, 2014 accepted the "one rank, one pension" principle for the armed forces in the interim budget presented in Parliament. Rahul Gandhi welcomed the decision and thanked Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and Congress President Smt. Sonia Gandhi for fulfilling a long-standing demand of ex-servicemen. "Our Jawans protect us on our borders, on distant mountains and we owe it to them. Jawans should always feel that the government is fully with them, this is our belief," said Rahul Gandhi.
The decision is the culmination of a series of interactions Rahul Gandhi has had with former military personnel. When the demand came up during his meeting with ex-servicemen on February 14, 2014, he said "I am with you...you give your life for this country. Whatever effort I can give in this, I am going to do it".
Rahul Gandhi assured the Army men that he is the soldier representing them in the Government.

RGspeaks: Interaction with salt pan workers in Gujarat
On March 11, Rahul Gandhi held an open discussion with members of the Agahriya community who work in the salt pans in the Little Rann of Kutch region of Gujarat. Before the meeting, Rahul Gandhi visited the house of one of the community members and interacted with the family. Sharing their concerns with Rahul Gandhi members of the community said they work in extremely harsh working conditions and they lack access to basic facilities like healthcare, education and drinking water. They also pointed out difficulties faced in establishing title rights to the land where they have been living for generations.
"Development is not just limited to building roads and bridges. Till the time we don't provide a firm floor and a strong roof for the people, building roads will not benefit them. A basic minimum right has to be given to every Indian. To me, development must include every Indian...I cannot change your life in 10 days and I will be lying if I said so. But I promise I will work towards addressing your problems," said Rahul Gandhi.
Rahul Gandhi also promised to include their voice in the Congress Manifesto.

Addressing various eminent sportspersons after the launch of the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Abhiyan, on February 21, 2014 Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi said that politics must be kept away from sports. Rahul Gandhi congratulated the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports for bringing out the policy and launching Rajiv Gandhi Khel Abhiyan.
"When you are involved in some form of sport, it gives you time to think clearly...More and more power should go to sports persons in deciding things pertaining to their field...we should look at building infrastructure and providing quality coaching to our young sports persons. Our aim should not only be to increase our medal tally but have sports as a way of life among our youth" said Rahul Gandhi.
He said that sportspersons must be given control of sports adminsitration. India's Olympic Bronze medalist boxer Vijender Singh, who was also present at the event, says that having a good coach is of paramount importance. "Coaches are the catalyst that will pave way for India's success in sports," he said. All the sportspersons present emphasised that the need of the hour is to empower good coaches and provide sports facilities in every corner of India, which would help nurture budding talent.

They were deprived of their rights with low value of land being given to them.
