Vijay Singal, author of ‘Bhagavad Gita - Saying it the simple way’
The path of Bhagavad Gita is not the path of compulsion. It is rather the path of free will. It is the path of self-realisation where honest and considered opinion of the individual is not only not despised but is valued highly. No dogma is thrust upon the throat of the gullible. Everyone has to find the truth, in his own way.
After imparting all-encompassing materialistic and spiritual knowledge, Shri Krishna at the end of his discourse told Arjuna :
‘ I have thus described to you this wisdom, which is more secret than all secrets. Think about it seriously, and then do as you wish’
(Shloka 18.63)
After explaining pros and cons of everything, Krishna asks Arjuna to do as he wished to do. It implies that God does not impose his will on anyone. One has to think for himself and act for himself. God has granted free will to man so that he can make an appropriate choice.
After throwing ample light on different aspects of life, elaborating the desirable and undesirable traits of human behaviour ; and also explaining different paths of self-realisation, Krishna leaves the decision to Arjuna’s choice.
But that choice cannot be an impulsive choice. It has to be a well considered decision. That is why Krishna asked Arjuna to reflect fully upon the wisdom imparted to him, and then decide what to dooleh Broadcast Mantra| 436 dilihat

Bhagavad Gita, Shri Krishna has suggested different paths treading which one can keep the likes and dislikes and also the consequent desires under control ; and thereby save oneself from many evils.
For this purpose, an analysis has been made in shlokas 3.40 to 3.43 as to where does the lust reside and how can it be curbed. It has been stated that the lust resides in senses, mind and the intellect. Through them, it clouds the wisdom and deludes the embodied soul. Therefore, this sinful lust, which is the destroyer of gyan (spiritual wisdom) and also the vigyan (worldly knowledge), must be curbed by controlling the senses, from the very beginning. It has further been stated that the senses are great, but mind is greater than the senses ; and the intellect (buddhi) is greater than the mind. And that which is greater than even the intellect, it is the self. Thus knowing the self to be beyond intellect ; and steadying the mind through intelligence, one should kill this enemy in the form of lust, which is so hard to get at.
Shri Krishna has thus explained the hierarchy of awareness, in the above shlokas. The Self (Atman) being the awareness itself is the highest. Thus controlling the mind through intelligence, one should destroy the lust which remains present in the senses, mind and the intellect.

cause of Human Suffering deal with Bhagavad Gita
Bhagavad Gita has discussed in detail various evils which cause the human suffering. It has also been analysed as to why do these afflictions arise and how can they be managed.
Shri Krishna has identified lust, anger and greed as the main culprits which lead to one’s downfall. Hence, in shloka 16.21, he has termed them as three entry gates of hell. Further, he has cautioned that they lead to degradation of the soul and, therefore, should be abandoned.
in the next shloka i.e. in shloka 16.22, it is stated that one who is freed from these three gates of darkness, he does what is good for himself ; and thus attains to the supreme destination. In other words, Krishna tells man that the more a person is liberated from these three vices, the more he becomes pure and ultimately reaches the highest position of self-realisation i.e. of oneness with Ishvara.
Mischiefs of lust have further been elaborated in shlokas 3.36 to 3.39. When asked by Arjuna as to what impels man to commit sin, as if by force, even against his own will ; Shri Krishna replied that sin is committed due to lust. The lust is born of the mode of passion (rajas guna) and it later emerges as anger.
