    ബീഹാറിലെ പാട്നയിലെ ചരിത്രസ്മാരകങ്ങളിൽ പ്രധാനപ്പെട്ടതാണ് അഗം കുആ. പാട്ന സന്ദർശിക്കാനായി എത്തുന്നവർ ഒരിക്കലും ഒഴിവാക്കരുതാത്ത സ്ഥലങ്ങളിൽ ഒന്നാണ് ഇവിടുത്തെ അഗം കുആ. അളക്കാനാത്ത ആഴമുള്ള കിണർ എന്നർഥം വരുന്ന അഗം കുആ നൂറ്റാണ്ടുകളുപടെ ചരിത്രം പറയുന്ന ഒരു വിശിഷ്ട നിർമ്മിതിയാണ് ഇവിടുത്തെ ഈ കിണർ. അഗം കുആയുടെ ചരിത്രം തിരഞ്ഞു പോയാൽ എത്തി നിൽക്കുക അശോക ചക്രവർത്തിയുടെ കാലത്താണ്. മൗര്യ ചക്രവർത്തിയായിരുന്ന അശോകന്റെ കാലത്താണ് 105 അടി ആഴമുള്ള ഈ കിണർ നിർമ്മിച്ചത് എന്നാണ് ചരിത്രം പറയുന്നത്. അതിലൊന്ന് പാതാളവുമായി ഈ കിണറിൽ നിന്നു ഒരു പാതയുണ്ട് എന്നാണ്.
    മറ്റൊന്ന് ഈ കിണറിലൂടെ പോയാൽ ഗംഗാ നദിയ്ക്കു സമീപം എത്താൻ കഴിയും എന്നാണ്.
    അശോക ചക്രവർത്തിയുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെട്ട കഥകളിലെ പ്രധാന കഥാപാത്രമാണ് ഈ കിണറും. മഗധ സാമ്രാജ്യം കൈയ്യടക്കുന്നതിനായി തന്റെ 99 സഹോദരൻമാരെയും ചക്രവർത്തി ഈ കിണറിൽ എറിഞ്ഞു കൊന്നു എന്നാണ് ഇതുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെട്ട കഥ. കിണറിന്റെ ആദ്യത്തെ 13 മീറ്റർ അഥവാ 43 അടി ഇഷ്ടികകൊണ്ടാണ് ഒരുക്കിയിരിക്കുന്നത്. ബാക്കി വരുന്ന 19 മീറ്റർ അഥവാ 62 അടി തടികൊണ്ടുള്ള വളയങ്ങൾ ഇറക്കിയാണ് നിർമ്മിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത്. ഈ കിണറിന് യഥാർഥത്തിൽ എത്ര ആഴം ഉണ്ട് എന്ന് ഇതുവരെയും കണക്കാക്കാനായിട്ടില്ലട്ടില്ല.
    അശോക ചക്രവർത്തി ബുദ്ധമതത്തിലേക്ക് ആകൃഷ്ടനാവുന്നതിനു മുൻപ് കഠിന ബുദ്ധ വിരോധിയായിരുന്നു.
    ആ സമയത്ത് ബുദ്ധമതത്തിൽ വിശ്വസിച്ചിരുന്നവരെ ദ്രോഹിക്കാനായിരുന്നു ഈ കിണർ ഉപയോഗിച്ചിരുന്നത്. ആസമയങ്ങളിലൊക്കെയും ഭൂമിയിലെ നരകം എന്നായിരുന്നു ഇത് അറിയപ്പെട്ടിരുന്നത്.
    പാട്നയിലെ എത്ര കടുത്ത വേനലിലും വറ്റാത്ത കിണർ കൂടിയാണ് അഗം കുആ. 1 -1.5 അടി വെള്ളം എത്ര കടുത്ത വേനലാണെങ്കിലും ഇതിനുള്ളിൽ കാണും. കൂടാതെ ഈ കിണറിനുള്ളലിൽ വേറെ ഒൻപത് കിണറുകൾ ഉണ്ട് എന്നും അതിന്റെ ഏറ്റവും അടിയിലായി ഒരു ഒരു നിധി സൂക്ഷിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട് എന്നുമാണ് ഇവിടെയുള്ളവരുടെ വിശ്വാസം.
    ഇതുവരെയായി മൂന്നു തവണയാണ് ഈ കിണറിന്റെ ആഴം കണ്ടെത്താനുള്ള ശ്രമങ്ങള്‍ നടന്നത്.
    ബ്രിട്ടീഷുകാരുടെ കാലത്ത് 1932 ലായിരുന്നു ആദ്യ ശ്രമം നടന്നത്. ഒരു പ്രളയത്തിലേ പോലെ

    മറ്റൊന്ന് ഈ കിണറിലൂടെ പോയാൽ ഗംഗാ നദിയ്ക്കു സമീപം എത്താൻ കഴിയും എന്നാണ്.
    അശോക ചക്രവർത്തിയുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെട്ട കഥകളിലെ പ്രധാന കഥാപാത്രമാണ് ഈ കിണറും. മഗധ സാമ്രാജ്യം കൈയ്യടക്കുന്നതിനായി തന്റെ 99 സഹോദരൻമാരെയും ചക്രവർത്തി ഈ കിണറിൽ എറിഞ്ഞു കൊന്നു എന്നാണ് ഇതുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെട്ട കഥ. കിണറിന്റെ ആദ്യത്തെ 13 മീറ്റർ അഥവാ 43 അടി ഇഷ്ടികകൊണ്ടാണ് ഒരുക്കിയിരിക്കുന്നത്. ബാക്കി വരുന്ന 19 മീറ്റർ അഥവാ 62 അടി തടികൊണ്ടുള്ള വളയങ്ങൾ ഇറക്കിയാണ് നിർമ്മിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത്. ഈ കിണറിന് യഥാർഥത്തിൽ എത്ര ആഴം ഉണ്ട് എന്ന് ഇതുവരെയും കണക്കാക്കാനായിട്ടില്ലട്ടില്ല.
    അശോക ചക്രവർത്തി ബുദ്ധമതത്തിലേക്ക് ആകൃഷ്ടനാവുന്നതിനു മുൻപ് കഠിന ബുദ്ധ വിരോധിയായിരുന്നു.
    ആ സമയത്ത് ബുദ്ധമതത്തിൽ വിശ്വസിച്ചിരുന്നവരെ ദ്രോഹിക്കാനായിരുന്നു ഈ കിണർ ഉപയോഗിച്ചിരുന്നത്. ആസമയങ്ങളിലൊക്കെയും ഭൂമിയിലെ നരകം എന്നായിരുന്നു ഇത് അറിയപ്പെട്ടിരുന്നത്.
    പാട്നയിലെ എത്ര കടുത്ത വേനലിലും വറ്റാത്ത കിണർ കൂടിയാണ് അഗം കുആ. 1 -1.5 അടി വെള്ളം എത്ര കടുത്ത വേനലാണെങ്കിലും ഇതിനുള്ളിൽ കാണും. കൂടാതെ ഈ കിണറിനുള്ളലിൽ വേറെ ഒൻപത് കിണറുകൾ ഉണ്ട് എന്നും അതിന്റെ ഏറ്റവും അടിയിലായി ഒരു ഒരു നിധി സൂക്ഷിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട് എന്നുമാണ് ഇവിടെയുള്ളവരുടെ വിശ്വാസം.
    ഇതുവരെയായി മൂന്നു തവണയാണ് ഈ കിണറിന്റെ ആഴം കണ്ടെത്താനുള്ള ശ്രമങ്ങള്‍ നടന്നത്.
    ബ്രിട്ടീഷുകാരുടെ കാലത്ത് 1932 ലായിരുന്നു ആദ്യ ശ്രമം നടന്നത്. ഒരു പ്രളയത്തിലേ പോലെ
