വെളിച്ചെണ്ണ 'ശുദ്ധമായ വിഷം' എന്നാണ് ഹാര്‍വാര്‍ഡ് സര്‍വ്വകലാശാല പ്രൊഫസറിന്റെ കണ്ടെത്തല്‍.ചില ഭക്ഷണ ശാലകളുടെയും സൈറ്റുകളുടെയും അഭിപ്രായത്തില്‍ വെളിച്ചെണ്ണ നല്ല മുടിയ്ക്കും ശാരീരിക മാനസിക ആരോഗ്യത്തിനും ഉത്തമം ആണെന്നും എന്നാല്‍ നിങ്ങള്‍ക്ക് കഴിക്കാവുന്നതില്‍ വച്ച് ഏറ്റവും വിഷമയമായ വസ്തുവാണ് വെളിച്ചെണ്ണ എന്നുമാണ് കാരിൻ മൈക്കൽ എന്ന പ്രൊഫസര്‍ പറയുന്നത്.വെളിച്ചെണ്ണയില്‍ 80% അധികം പൂരിത കൊഴുപ്പ് അടങ്ങിയിരിക്കുന്നു. ഇത് കൊളസ്ട്രോള്‍ വര്‍ധിപ്പിക്കുമെന്നും ഹൃദ്രോഗത്തിന് സാധ്യത കൂട്ടുമെന്നുമാണ് പഠനം.ബീഫ്, കോഴിയിറച്ചി എന്നിവയില്‍ ഉള്ളതിനേക്കാള്‍ 60%കൂടുതല്‍ കൊഴുപ്പ് വെളിച്ചെണ്ണയില്‍ ഉണ്ട്.കഴിഞ്ഞ വര്‍ഷം അമേരിക്കയില്‍ നടന്ന പഠനത്തില്‍ 37% ആളുകള്‍ വെളിച്ചെണ്ണ ആരോഗ്യ പ്രശ്നങ്ങള്‍ക്കിടയാക്കുമെന്ന് പ്രതികരിച്ചിരുന്നു. മായം ചേര്‍ത്ത് ലഭിക്കുന്ന എണ്ണകള്‍ ഈ അപകടാവസ്ഥ കൂടുതല്‍ വര്‍ധിപ്പിക്കുകയാണ് ചെയ്യുന്നത്.

പരാമര്‍ശം തിരുത്താന്‍ നടപടിയെടുക്കണമെന്ന് ആവശ്യപ്പെട്ട് ഹോര്‍ട്ടികള്‍ച്ചറല്‍ കമ്മീഷണര്‍ ബി.എന്‍ ശ്രീനിവാസ മൂര്‍ത്തി മെയില്‍ അയച്ചു. ഹര്‍വാര്‍ഡ് സ്കൂള്‍ ഓഫ് പബ്ലിക് ഹെല്‍ത്ത് മേധാവിക്കാണ് കത്തയച്ചത്. ബാങ്കോക്കിലെ ഏഷ്യ - പസഫിക് കോക്കനട്ട് കമ്യൂണിറ്റിയില്‍ ഒരു പ്രഭാഷണത്തിനിടെയാണ് മിഷേല്‍സ് വെളിച്ചെണ്ണയെ വിഷം എന്ന് വിളിച്ചത്. 18 രാജ്യങ്ങളുടെ ഔദ്യോഗിക പ്രതിനിധികള്‍ പങ്കെടുത്ത യോഗത്തിലാണ് മിഷേല്‍സ് ഈ പരാമര്‍ശം നടത്തിയത്. തികച്ചും നിഷേധാത്മകമായ പരാമര്‍ശമാണ് കരിന്‍ മിഷേല്‍സ് നടത്തിയതെന്ന് ശ്രീനിവാസ മൂര്‍ത്തി വിമര്‍ശിച്ചു.
കേരളവും ഇന്ത്യയും കടന്ന് വെളിച്ചെണ്ണ മറ്റ് രാജ്യങ്ങളില്‍ വരെ എത്തിയപ്പോള്‍ ഗുണദോഷങ്ങളെ കുറിച്ചും ചര്‍ച്ചകള്‍ തുടങ്ങിയിരുന്നു. വെളിച്ചെണ്ണയുടെ ഉപയോഗം അമേരിക്കയില്‍ വര്‍ധിച്ചതോടെ മുന്നറിയിപ്പുമായി അമേരിക്കന്‍ ഹാര്‍ട്ട് അസോസിയേഷന്‍ രംഗത്തെത്തി. വെളിച്ചെണ്ണയുടെ അമിതോപയോഗം കൊളസ്ട്രോള്‍ കൂടാനും ഹൃദയസംബന്ധമായ അസുഖങ്ങള്‍ക്കും കാരണമാകുമെന്നായിരുന്നു മുന്നറിയിപ്പ്.

പരാമര്‍ശം തിരുത്താന്‍ നടപടിയെടുക്കണമെന്ന് ആവശ്യപ്പെട്ട് ഹോര്‍ട്ടികള്‍ച്ചറല്‍ കമ്മീഷണര്‍ ബി.എന്‍ ശ്രീനിവാസ മൂര്‍ത്തി മെയില്‍ അയച്ചു. ഹര്‍വാര്‍ഡ് സ്കൂള്‍ ഓഫ് പബ്ലിക് ഹെല്‍ത്ത് മേധാവിക്കാണ് കത്തയച്ചത്. ബാങ്കോക്കിലെ ഏഷ്യ - പസഫിക് കോക്കനട്ട് കമ്യൂണിറ്റിയില്‍ ഒരു പ്രഭാഷണത്തിനിടെയാണ് മിഷേല്‍സ് വെളിച്ചെണ്ണയെ വിഷം എന്ന് വിളിച്ചത്. 18 രാജ്യങ്ങളുടെ ഔദ്യോഗിക പ്രതിനിധികള്‍ പങ്കെടുത്ത യോഗത്തിലാണ് മിഷേല്‍സ് ഈ പരാമര്‍ശം നടത്തിയത്. തികച്ചും നിഷേധാത്മകമായ പരാമര്‍ശമാണ് കരിന്‍ മിഷേല്‍സ് നടത്തിയതെന്ന് ശ്രീനിവാസ മൂര്‍ത്തി വിമര്‍ശിച്ചു.
കേരളവും ഇന്ത്യയും കടന്ന് വെളിച്ചെണ്ണ മറ്റ് രാജ്യങ്ങളില്‍ വരെ എത്തിയപ്പോള്‍ ഗുണദോഷങ്ങളെ കുറിച്ചും ചര്‍ച്ചകള്‍ തുടങ്ങിയിരുന്നു. വെളിച്ചെണ്ണയുടെ ഉപയോഗം അമേരിക്കയില്‍ വര്‍ധിച്ചതോടെ മുന്നറിയിപ്പുമായി അമേരിക്കന്‍ ഹാര്‍ട്ട് അസോസിയേഷന്‍ രംഗത്തെത്തി. വെളിച്ചെണ്ണയുടെ അമിതോപയോഗം കൊളസ്ട്രോള്‍ കൂടാനും ഹൃദയസംബന്ധമായ അസുഖങ്ങള്‍ക്കും കാരണമാകുമെന്നായിരുന്നു മുന്നറിയിപ്പ്.
