    വാഷിംഗ്ടണില്‍ സമുദ്രത്തിലെ ഏറ്റവും ആഴംകൂടിയ മരിയാന ട്രഞ്ചില്‍ വെച്ചാണ് വെളുത്ത, വളരെ ചെറിയ രൂപമുള്ള മത്സ്യത്തെ ഒരുസംഘം ഗവേഷകര്‍ കാണുന്നത്. കടലിനടിയില്‍ ഗവേഷണം നടത്തിക്കൊണ്ടിരുന്ന ഗവേഷകര്‍ തങ്ങളുടെ ക്യാമറയില്‍ പതിഞ്ഞ ആ രൂപം കണ്ട് ആദ്യം പേടിച്ചു പിന്നെ അതിശയിച്ചുവെന്നും പറയുന്നു . കണ്ണു പോലും വെള്ളനിറത്തിലുള്ള ഈ മത്സ്യത്തെ അവര്‍ പ്രേതമത്സ്യമെന്നാണ് വിളിച്ചത്. 'ദ് നെവര്‍ എന്‍ഡിങ് സ്റ്റോറി' എന്ന സിനിമയിലെ 'ഫോള്‍കോര്‍' എന്ന നല്ലവനായ വെള്ള ഡ്രാഗണിനെപ്പോലെയുണ്ടെന്നായിരുന്നു ഗവേഷകരിലൊരാള്‍ ഈ മത്സ്യത്തെ കണ്ടിട്ട് വിശേഷിപ്പിച്ചത്.ലോകത്തില്‍ ആദ്യമായാണ് 'ആഫിയോനിഡെ' കുടുംബത്തില്‍പ്പെട്ട ആ മത്സ്യത്തെ മനുഷ്യന്‍ ജീവനോടെ കാണുന്നത്. കടലിനടിയില്‍ എണ്ണ പര്യവേക്ഷണത്തിനും മറ്റുമായി ഡ്രെഡ്ജിംഗ് നടത്തുമ്പോഴും വലയെറിയുമ്പോഴുമെല്ലാം പലപ്പോഴായി ഈ മത്സ്യത്തെ കിട്ടിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. പക്ഷേ ജീവനില്ലായിരുന്നു. അതിനാല്‍ തന്നെ ഇവ ആഴക്കടലിലാണോ അതോ സാധാരണ മത്സ്യങ്ങള്‍ക്കൊപ്പമാണോ ജീവിക്കുന്നതെന്ന സംശയമുണ്ടായിരുന്നു.ആഴത്തില്‍ ജീവിക്കുന്നതിനാല്‍ പരിണാമത്തിന്റെ ആദ്യഘട്ടത്തില്‍ തന്നെ ഇവയുടെ ശരീരത്തിലേക്ക് നിറങ്ങളൊന്നും ചേര്‍ന്നില്ല. അത് കാലാകാലങ്ങളായി തുടരുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നുവെന്നാണ് ഗവേഷകര്‍ പിന്നീട് കണ്ടെത്തിയത്. വെറും 10 സെന്റിമീറ്റര്‍ മാത്രമാണ് ഈ മത്സ്യത്തിന്റെ ആകെയുള്ള വലിപ്പം.കടലിനടിയില്‍ ജീവശാസ്ത്രത്തിലെ നിര്‍ണായക നിമിഷത്തിനാണ് നാഷനല്‍ ഓഷ്യാനിക് ആന്‍ഡ് അറ്റ്‌മോസ്ഫറിക് അഡ്മിനിസ്‌ട്രേഷന്റെ (എന്‍.ഒ.എ.എ) ആ ഗവേഷക സംഘം സാക്ഷിയായത്.

    സമുദ്രത്തിനടിയില്‍ ഗോസ്റ്റ് ഫിഷ്‌

    'ആഫിയോനിഡെ' കുടുംബത്തില്‍പ്പെട്ട മത്സ്യത്തെ മനുഷ്യന്‍ ജീവനോടെ കാണുന്നത് ആദ്യമാണ്


    വാഷിംഗ്ടണില്‍ സമുദ്രത്തിലെ ഏറ്റവും ആഴംകൂടിയ മരിയാന ട്രഞ്ചില്‍ വെച്ചാണ് വെളുത്ത, വളരെ ചെറിയ രൂപമുള്ള മത്സ്യത്തെ ഒരുസംഘം ഗവേഷകര്‍ കാണുന്നത്. കടലിനടിയില്‍ ഗവേഷണം നടത്തിക്കൊണ്ടിരുന്ന ഗവേഷകര്‍ തങ്ങളുടെ ക്യാമറയില്‍ പതിഞ്ഞ ആ രൂപം കണ്ട് ആദ്യം പേടിച്ചു പിന്നെ അതിശയിച്ചുവെന്നും പറയുന്നു . കണ്ണു പോലും വെള്ളനിറത്തിലുള്ള ഈ മത്സ്യത്തെ അവര്‍ പ്രേതമത്സ്യമെന്നാണ് വിളിച്ചത്. 'ദ് നെവര്‍ എന്‍ഡിങ് സ്റ്റോറി' എന്ന സിനിമയിലെ 'ഫോള്‍കോര്‍' എന്ന നല്ലവനായ വെള്ള ഡ്രാഗണിനെപ്പോലെയുണ്ടെന്നായിരുന്നു ഗവേഷകരിലൊരാള്‍ ഈ മത്സ്യത്തെ കണ്ടിട്ട് വിശേഷിപ്പിച്ചത്.ലോകത്തില്‍ ആദ്യമായാണ് 'ആഫിയോനിഡെ' കുടുംബത്തില്‍പ്പെട്ട ആ മത്സ്യത്തെ മനുഷ്യന്‍ ജീവനോടെ കാണുന്നത്. കടലിനടിയില്‍ എണ്ണ പര്യവേക്ഷണത്തിനും മറ്റുമായി ഡ്രെഡ്ജിംഗ് നടത്തുമ്പോഴും വലയെറിയുമ്പോഴുമെല്ലാം പലപ്പോഴായി ഈ മത്സ്യത്തെ കിട്ടിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. പക്ഷേ ജീവനില്ലായിരുന്നു. അതിനാല്‍ തന്നെ ഇവ ആഴക്കടലിലാണോ അതോ സാധാരണ മത്സ്യങ്ങള്‍ക്കൊപ്പമാണോ ജീവിക്കുന്നതെന്ന സംശയമുണ്ടായിരുന്നു.ആഴത്തില്‍ ജീവിക്കുന്നതിനാല്‍ പരിണാമത്തിന്റെ ആദ്യഘട്ടത്തില്‍ തന്നെ ഇവയുടെ ശരീരത്തിലേക്ക് നിറങ്ങളൊന്നും ചേര്‍ന്നില്ല. അത് കാലാകാലങ്ങളായി തുടരുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നുവെന്നാണ് ഗവേഷകര്‍ പിന്നീട് കണ്ടെത്തിയത്. വെറും 10 സെന്റിമീറ്റര്‍ മാത്രമാണ് ഈ മത്സ്യത്തിന്റെ ആകെയുള്ള വലിപ്പം.കടലിനടിയില്‍ ജീവശാസ്ത്രത്തിലെ നിര്‍ണായക നിമിഷത്തിനാണ് നാഷനല്‍ ഓഷ്യാനിക് ആന്‍ഡ് അറ്റ്‌മോസ്ഫറിക് അഡ്മിനിസ്‌ട്രേഷന്റെ (എന്‍.ഒ.എ.എ) ആ ഗവേഷക സംഘം സാക്ഷിയായത്.
