Earthquake in Delhi - 1-5-2013

Moderate intensity quake strikes North India.

A moderate intensity earthquake shook Jammu and Kashmir and some other parts of North India including the national capital and adjoining satellite townships Wednesday afternoon.

There were no reports of any casualty or injury though there were minor damages to some buildings, including two schools in Bhaderwah in Jammu and Kashmir.

The quake, measuring 5.8 on the Richter scale at 12:27 pm, was epicentred at Baderwah in Jammu and Kashmir, the MeT Department said.
The tremors took place 15 km below the surface.

Tremors were also felt in Himachal Pradesh, Punjab and Haryana.

In Himachal Pradesh, the earthquake lasted for about 30 seconds and was felt across the state from tribal areas of Lahaul and Spiti to foot hills of Una.

Yesterday, a quake measuring 4.3 on the Richter scale was felt in Bhaderwah and adjoining areas of Doda district in Jammu and Kashmir.
This was the third earthquake in the national capital and adjoining satellite townships in a fortnight. The tremors were felt for about 20-25 seconds in the capital, Gurgaon and Noida.

On April 24, a quake measuring 5.7 on the Richter scale and epicentred in southern Afghanistan had shook the National Capital Region while on April 16, a tremor of 7.8 magnitude with Pakistan-Iran border as its epicentre also had its effect in the region.
