If reports are to believed, the Board of Control for India (BCCI) is planning to host the entirety of the 2022 Indian Premier league (IPL) in Maharashtra keeping in mind the COVID-19 pandemic in the country. Due to the rapid rise of coronavirus cases in the nation, the world’s richest cricket board is looking to implement Plan B for the smooth running of the upcoming IPL edition.
In the last two years, the BCCI faced challenges in hosting the T20 league. Even as the entire IPL 2020 took place in the United Arab Emirates, the 2021 season had to be shifted out of India because of the emergence of COVID-19 cases in the team camps.
Going by reports, the BCCI is planning to host the upcoming IPL season at four venues – the Wankhede Stadium, the Brabourne Stadium, the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai and the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Gahunje, near Pune.
“On January 5, Hemang Amin (BCCI’s interim CEO and the Chief Operating Officer of the IPL) approached Vijay Patil (Mumbai Cricket Association president) in this regard, on the sidelines of the MCA’s Apex Council meeting. Subsequently, a few days later, Amin and Patil met Sharad Pawar at the NCP supremo’s residence,” sources told.
Marnus Labuschagne was recently questioned on social media about the best Indian batter and bowler he had faced so far and he had no doubts about picking Virat Kohli and R Ashwin as his answer. The right-hander is currently playing a massive role for the Australian side in the ongoing Ashes Test series and his numbers in the format have been amazingly good.
The 2019-2020 home series was the first challenge for Labuschagne against the Indian Test side and he straightaway proved to be one of the vital cogs in the Aussie batting lineup. There Might Be More Twists In Kohli-Captaincy Saga After BCCI's Involvement And More News
The chaos regarding the contradicting comments between Team India Test skipper Virat Kohli and Sourav Ganguly, the president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, have intensified quite a bit over the last few days. Ganguly, also a former Indian skipper, said that he had personally asked the 33-year-old Virat to not step down from captaincy in the T20 format.
However, the Delhi-born Virat was clear cut in saying that he was never asked “not to quit T20 captaincy”. As per reports, the BCCI wasn’t happy with proceedings on Wednesday, December 15. However, the board is also aware that any strong reaction could hamper the morale of the Indian team before the three-match Test series against South Africa, starting December 26.
Even as Kohli reached South Africa on Thursday, December 16, Ganguly refrained from making any comments while saying that the BCCI will take the necessary steps.
“No statements, no press conference. We will deal with it, leave it to (the) BCCI,” Ganguly was quoted as saying to the media in his hometown. In the meantime, Kohli has lost captaincy in the ODI format as well.
As per sources, the BCCI office bearers, including Ganguly and Jay Shah, the honorary secretary, took part in a zoom call on Wednesday where it was decided that the board wouldn’t engage in any media interaction before the South Africa tour.
“Expert opinion was taken on how to deal with the sensitive matter as it also involves the respect of a president’s office. The BCCI knows that a Test series is round the corner and any hasty decision or statement from them could affect the morale of the team,” a senior BCCI official told on conditions of anonymity.

50% Crowd Might Be Allowed For Remainder Of IPL 2021 In Dubai & More Cricket News
In a major development around the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), the tournament is likely to be played from September 19 to October 10. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had confirmed a couple of days ago, after its Special General Meeting (SGM), that the remaining 31 matches of the IPL will be played in the UAE.
Moreover, it has also been understood that allowing crowds isn’t a major concern for the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) and the BCCI unless for an intervention from the local government. The UAE government policy is to allow the fans for the sporting events with a condition that they’re vaccinated.
The BCCI President Sourav Ganguly, secretary Jay Shah, treasurer Arun Singh Dhumal, vice-president Rajeev Shukla and joint secretary Jayesh George have reportedly landed in Dubai on Monday. With the travel restrictions due to the pandemic, the ECB officials had to obtain special permission for the landing of the BCCI delegation. The purpose of the visit seems to be finalising logistical and operational requirements.
There could be discussions over the concessional price of hotels who are said to have been quoting a huge amount. The ECB officials are confident of pulling off the 31 matches of IPL 2021 given their experience of hosting a full tournament comprising 60 matches last year. Moreover, they’ve also got close to 100 days to prepare for the competition.
Having said that, the ECB is understood to have been worried about hosting the ICC T20 World Cup. Currently, India are the hosts, but UAE has been kept as a back-up venue due to the upsurge in COVID cases. A lot of cricket is set to be played in the UAE starting from June with PSL set to resume in Abu Dhabi (20 matches as of now).

he 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will be resuming in the United Arab Emirates later this year. The BCCI Vice-President Rajiv Shukla confirmed the news on Saturday soon after the Special General Meeting (SGM) of the board. This is not a surprise given the current situation in India and more so, there will reluctance among overseas players after what transpired earlier this month during the tournament.

Notably, the high-voltage T20 World Cup will commence days after the conclusion of the Indian T20 league.

BCCI Reveals Their Plans To Complete Reminder Of IPL 2021 And More Cricket News
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) interim CEO Hemang Amin, also the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the Indian Premier League (IPL), is apparently ready with a full plan to host the remainder of the 14th edition of IPL in the UAE. Amin has two schedules for the rest of the matches to be hosted in the month of September and October in the year 2021.
The UAE and England Cricket Board (ECB) had already offered BCCI help to host the remaining matches keeping in mind India’s current situation of COVID-19 and that’s the reason Amin has drafted one schedule for England’s leg and the other one for the UAE. Now the BCCI will likely give its verdict by the time the board’s special general meeting (SGM) is held on May 29.
Amin’s preferred choice of country is the UAE and the interim CEO has asked the board to keep UAE as the preferred option in the meeting, Times of India reported.
Amin has also given logical reasoning behind it as he feels shifting to the UK will be a risky proposition because starting mid-September, the possibility of monsoon returning post the English summer is reasonably high. Hosting the IPL in UAE is likely less expensive compared to shelling out pounds in England.
Moreover, UAE is the tried and tested option as it has previously hosted some part of IPL in the year 2014 apart from a full-fledged one.
“One way or the other, BCCI should make a decision and work towards it. Things should not get stuck in decision-making paralysis and be left for the last moment. The sooner a call is taken, the better the preparations,” Amin said.

Eoin Morgan Might Retire From International Cricket This Week And More Cricket News
The World Cup-winning captain of England, Eoin Morgan, is reportedly considering his future lately and may declare his exit from international cricket this week. In the recently concluded ODI series against the Netherlands in Amstelveen, the 35-year-old struggled with form and fitness issues before withdrawing from the third game citing a groin injury.
While the first ODI of the three-match series saw Morgan getting dismissed for a golden duck, the second game witnessed him walking back to the pavilion for a seven-ball duck. His form has been deteriorating recently, and his performance graph has seen a terrible low. That might also have been one of the reasons behind no franchise picking him during the IPL 2022 mega auctions.
Indian opener Mayank Agarwal has been added to India’s Test squad after Rohit Sharma tested positive for the Covid-19 virus. There is no certainty of Rohit’s availability for the upcoming Test match against England which begins on July 1. He is under isolation and the team still expects him to recover completely before the clash.
If the 35-year-old is not able to play the final Test match of the five-match series, and with KL Rahul out of the squad owing to his injury, Agarwal might find a place as the opening batter in the playing XI. The inconclusive series is led by India 2-1 and the team will further look to either win the game or at least manage a draw to clinch the trophy.
The T20I series opener between Ireland and India at the Village saw the Men in Blue chase down the host’s total of 108 runs with quite an ease as Deepak Hooda, Ishan Kishan and Hardik Pandya starred with the bat. Skipper Pandya has now spoken on the absence of opener Ruturaj Gaikwad in India’s batting innings.
The game was shortened to 12 overs per side due to the interruption from rain. After restricting the Irish batters to a total of 108 runs in their 12 overs, the Indian batters took center stage.By CricTracker| 27878 views
The BCCI has decided to stage remaining 31 matches of the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in the UAE. The tournament had to be postponed after 29 matches following multiple COVID cases within the bubble. Earlier, it was reported that the board is looking at the three-week window from September 18 to October 10 to finish the season.
The decision was taken at the Special General Meeting (SGM) held on May 29. Accordingly, a BCCI delegation including President Sourav Ganguly and Secretary Jay Shah reached the UAE to finalise all the talks with the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB).
However, Jagran has now reported that the Indian board is planning to stretch the IPL 2021 season till October 18. This is being done to reduce the number of doubleheaders as players will suffer in the extreme heat of the UAE during the afternoon matches. BCCI is in discussion with the required officials for the same.
“We will get an extended window of 8 days and we will be able to reduce the doubleheaders. It is very hot in UAE and the cricketers might suffer due to this. So, the board is trying to keep less afternoon matches. If the final is played on 18 October, 8 doubleheaders matches will be played less. We are in talks regarding this with the Chairman of ECB and we are hopeful that our proposal will be accepted,” the official said.
