The Indian Software as a Service (SaaS) landscape continues to mature rapidly, with more companies reaching larger scale and driving heightened investor interest. In 2021, more than 35 Indian SaaS companies had $20 Million+ annual recurring revenue - a sevenfold increase over five years -with between 7 and 9 of these companies reaching the $100M annual recurring revenue milestone (versus one to two companies five years ago). India could be on the cusp of unlocking a $1 trillion opportunity for Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) companies, creating nearly half a million new jobs by 2030, according to a report titled 'Shaping India’s SaaS Landscape' by #SaaSBOOMi. Vertical business software has seen 100% year-over-year growth, with several Indian success stories emerging. Growth is primarily driven by an increased number of deals for vertical business software and larger deal sizes for horizontal business software. A report says, software accounts for 20% of the total enterprise spending on technology but has a value creation of nearly 50%.
The #SaaS companies founded in India by the Indian founders, that have the majority of their workforce in India, are serving both domestic and global customers, which is $2.6 billion in size and employs about 40,000 people, is expected to record a 20X revenue jump by 2030. The narrative goes beyond this mammoth opportunity. This ‘20X jump’, which will generate $50-70 billion in revenue, is merely 6 percent of the global SaaS market —reflecting the untapped size of the pie and the huge window of opportunity that lies ahead for the SaaS industry. Linux Malware Saw 35% Growth During 2021
#Linux is similar to other operating systems such as Windows, and OS X. Like other operating systems, Linux has a graphical user interface, as well as comparable versions of software commonly used on other operating systems. Its uses are as diverse as any other OS, making Linux a favored platform for use in certain areas such as web serving, networking, and databases. The number of malware infections targeting Linux devices rose by 35% in 2021, most commonly to recruit IoT devices for #DDoS (distributed denial of service) attacks. IoTs are typically under-powered "smart" devices running various Linux distributions and are limited to specific functionality. However, when their resources are combined into large groups, they can deliver massive DDoS attacks to even well-protected infrastructure. Besides DDoS, Linux IoT devices are recruited to mine #cryptocurrency, facilitate spam mail campaigns, serve as relays, act as command-and-control servers, or even act as entry points into corporate networks The most prevalent Linux-based malware families in 2021 were XorDDoS, Mirai and Mozi, which collectively accounted for 22% of all Linux-based IoT malware that year. These were also a main driver of malware targeting all Linux-based systems, which grew 35% in 2021 compared with 2020.
A notable case of the malware's distribution was shown in 2021 after a Chinese threat actor known as "Winnti" was observed deploying it with other derivative botnets. The malware called Mirai turned thousands of vulnerable Linux-based routers, IP cameras and other IoT devices into a botnet that targeted Dyn and others with a massive DDoS attack. Whereas, Mozi is a P2P botnet relying on the distributed hash table (DHT) lookup system to hide suspicious C2 communications from network traffic monitoring solutions. The motivation of staying fit and leading a healthy lifestyle is now forcing users to upgrade to more sophisticated wearable devices with greater expectations around improved health tracking. Besides being a fitness companion, smartwatches also compliment users’ style and assist their daily tasks. According to the IDC report, the watches segment registered a growth of 119.9 percent Year-On-Year in the quarter under review with 7,78,000 units shipped in the country, making it the biggest quarter since the launch of the category in India. As per the estimates by Counterpoint research, Smartwatch shipments grew 274% in 2021 compared with the previous year, Noise led the market in 2021 followed by boAt, Fire Boltt, realme and Amazfit. boAt’s Storm was the best-selling smartwatch of the year.
