Cloud computing is changing the world and our future. Cloud is estimated to shape the digital infrastructure of the world, which would only expand from its present space with the growth of populations. At the same time, Artificial Intelligence has reached every field and device from smartphones to computers. Cloud computing has evolved as a key computing paradigm, allowing for ubiquitous simple on-demand access to a shared pool of configurable computing resources through the Internet. The necessity of Cloud to AI Powered devices is proven by the fact that AI lags in efficiently organizing and retrieving data, which in turn reduces its performance speed. With the help of Cloud computing, every AI powered device would act ten times faster with relative ease. Cloud computing is large-scale network computing. It runs a cloud-based application software on servers scattered throughout the internet. As companies move much faster on their digital transformation journey, companies are looking for ways to increase agility, business continuity, profitability and scalability. Cloud computing technology will be at the heart of every strategy to attain these aims in the new normal. Cloud computing provides a variety of services. Platform-as-a-service (PaaS), software-as-a-service (SaaS) and infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) are the leading ones. These services are critical to attaining business objectives. Many studies and assessments have indicated that cloud computing will be a dominant technology soon, with SaaS solutions accounting for over 60% of the workload.
Today, data generation is at an all-time high, and it’s just getting higher. It’s difficult to keep such big amounts of data safely. Most businesses continue to keep business and customer data in physical data centers. ONDC to regulate ecom biz
#ONDC, is a private non-profit Section 8 company established by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) of Government of India to develop open e-commerce.
It was incorporated on 31 December 2021 with initial investment from Quality Council of India and Protean eGov Technologies Limited, formerly NSDL e-Governance Infrastructure Limited. ONDC is a set of specifications designed to foster open interchange and connections between shoppers, technology platforms, and retailers.
ONDC will unbundle delivery services so that customers can choose their own logistics provider. As many as 20 organisations of national repute have confirmed investments of Rs 255 crore into ONDC. Lenders such as the State Bank of India, UCO Bank, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank and Bank of Baroda have already committed investments.
The initiative is aimed at suppressing the dominance of Amazon and #Flipkart, which control more than half of the country’s e-commerce trading, limit access to the market, and give preferential treatment to certain sellers and squeeze supplier margins. ONDC is a set of standards for voluntary adoption by sellers or logistics providers or payment gateways.
For example, if both Amazon and Flipkart integrate their platforms with ONDC, a user searching for a Bluetooth headset on Amazon would also see results from Flipkart on the Amazon app. ONDC aims to go beyond retail ecommerce, however, and similarly connect companies in areas such as mobility, food delivery, hotel booking and travel, among others.
On ONDC, there will be several other backend partners such as logistics service providers, enterprise resource planners, e-commerce store hosting service providers, etc.
#Paytm has joined the ONDC platform as a buyer, and Reliance-backed Dunzo is offering logistics services for hyperlocal deliveries. According to the ONDC website, companies like Kotak, PhonePe, Zoho and Snapdeal are in the “advanced stageബൈ VARINDIA| 163 വ്യൂസ് (വീക്ഷണത്തിന്റെ എണ്ണം)

By “unbundling” the transaction into separate micro-services, different entities are able to pick up and carry out different services. If successful, it will help weaken the monopolistic hold of #Amazon and #Flipkart – which dominate 63% of ecommerce in India, increase competition and accelerate growth. Nandan Nilekani, the architect of the India Stack and part of #ONDCs advisory council, calls it the “most exciting business transformation happening in the world”.
To begin with, it would require the participation of all players. Buyers and buyer applications, sellers and seller applications; logistics players; and payment partners. ONDC was initially projected as a platform to take on Amazon’s and Flipkart’s of the world to reduce their dominance and democratise e-commerce in India.
At the moment, Paytm is the only buyer application from where buyers can log into the ONDC network to make a purchase, that is part of the network. Amazon, Flipkart and Meesho are in talks with ONDC, but they are still not part of the network.
Snapdeal has been in the news for becoming the “first e-commerce marketplace to debut on ONDC” but they have joined from the seller side, not the buyer side. This means that sellers on Snapdeal can also sell on ONDC to customers browsing from other platforms like Paytm. However, buyers on Snapdeal cannot enter the ONDC network through the company’s platform.
The aim of ONDC is to increase the gross merchandise value (GMV) of digital transactions from Rs 4.5 trillion annually to over Rs 7.5 trillion. It is also to expand coverage of retailers using digital commerce from 15,000 to more than 2 million in the next five years. It wants to expand the number of Indians using e-commerce from 90 million users to over 250 million.
But a question remains unanswered - on ONDC’s financial viability: Will ONDC also take the path that UPI took of 0% merchant discount rate?
