Satellite Communication has become widespread and ubiquitous throughout the country for diverse applications catering to the sectors which are irreplaceable in serving the nation's interest. Satellite internet is a broadband internet service that uses radio waves to transmit the internet from an ISP hub to your satellite receiver dish which is attached with a modem to provide internet access. Some like SpaceX use lasers instead of radio waves to transmit the data. The radio waves are reflected in the receiver by geosynchronous low-Earth orbit (LEO) satellites that are in a fixed position in the sky. The data is transmitted to the satellite. Satellite internet could be the next big step in internet connectivity. Once a fleet of satellites is in orbit, companies would only need to set up the satellite receiver and modem to provide access to the internet from almost any corner of the world. There is no need for cables or other ground-based infrastructure at the customer’s access point. It would stand to revolutionise internet access the same way that the satellite DTH broadcasting services did for television access in India.
India is at the cusp of being a global hub for increased use of satellite communication, which can attract billions of dollars as FDI, generate huge employment, and enhance the GDP growth. About $40 billion private investments have already come in from major satellite broadband companies like Elon Musk’s SpaceX, Amazon’s Kuiper Project and the Bharti Airtel-backed OneWeb and Hughes are competing to become the biggest names in satellite internet in India. For a country like India, where providers would otherwise need to cover vast grounds with ground-based infrastructure, satellite internet provides an easy way to provide internet access to rural areas. Ukraine is a major supplier of neon gas, which is used in the lithography stages of chip production. Sources said, Ukraine has a share of 90% semiconductor -grade of neon, a noble gas. The gas, a biproduct of Russian steel manufacturing, is purified in Ukraine, market research firm Techcet says. Russia is the source of 35% of the palladium used in the United States. The metal is used in sensors and memory, among other applications. This could lead to an increase in the cost of production of semiconductor chips. Both Russia and Ukraine are vital exporters of raw materials used in the manufacturing of Chipsets and semiconductors, with these chips being vital to all modern electrical devices, companies may decide to pass on these costs to buyers, leading to an increase in the prices of consumer technology products.
Europe faced one of its biggest security crises in decades, after Russia invaded Ukraine by land, air and sea. As per analysts, Russia is also a key supplier of neon and palladium – accounting for a third of the global supply of the metal. Palladium is a metal that is used for electronics, catalytic converters among other things. #Semiconductorchips are the brain behind most electrical and electronic equipment that require some form of computing intelligence. Beginning from smartphones to electric vehicles, semiconductor chips are required everywhere. India is already a major hub for semiconductor research, chip design, and equipment engineering, but its future potential is even greater. As electronics is now the second biggest import cost after energy.
India’s semiconductor demand is expected to more than double to $64 billion by 2026. The government launched a Rs 76,000 crore semiconductor scheme that aims to establish semiconductor and display fabrication facilities and the corresponding chip ecosystem.
India’s goal is to become a world leader in the semiconductor industry. Domestic semiconductor consumption is expected to cross $80 billion in 2026. It is a known fact that most of the chips are manufactured in Taiwan. TSMC, the world's largest contract chip manufacturer, started making semiconductor chips in 1987. According to estimates, 90% of 5 nanometre chips are mass-produced in Taiwan by TSMC. However, the tensions between China and Taiwan have led to a global chip shortage.
Increasing tensions between the US and China are encouraging global chip makers to change their supply locations. This has a paradigm shift and these chip makers are currently concentrated on moving to East and Southeast Asia. Both the Indian government and the Tata group are placing their bets to ensure this shift will make India a new hub for semiconductor technology.
The United States and India’s semiconductor groups have teamed up to reinforce their cooperation in the global semiconductor industry. India holds over 6 percent of the world’s rare earth reserves, some of which are vital to the production of semiconductors, and Indian companies have been pushing the government to take advantage of this fact.

To strengthen the #semiconductor supply chains, support the growth of semiconductor design and manufacturing on mature technology nodes and packaging in India, it needs to cultivate a skilled workforce.
In September last year, Foxconn tied up with #Vedanta to build a $19.5 billion chip-making facility in the western state of Gujarat. The joint venture applied for the Indian government incentives to set up a semiconductor fab, which is a plant that manufactures integrated circuits from raw silicon wafers, in Dholera, in Gujarat.
At the same time, ISMC Digital, a consortium of investors, is planning to build a $3 billion fabrication plant in the southern state of Karnataka. Tower Semiconductor, an Israeli company, would be the technology partner on that project.

India's vision to setup Semiconductor eco-system
#Semiconductorchips are the brain behind most electrical and electronic equipment that require some form of computing intelligence. Beginning from smartphones to electric vehicles, semiconductor chips are required everywhere. India is already a major hub for semiconductor research, chip design, and equipment engineering, but its future potential is even greater. As electronics is now the second biggest import cost after energy.
India’s semiconductor demand is expected to more than double to $64 billion by 2026. The government launched a Rs 76,000 crore semiconductor scheme that aims to establish semiconductor and display fabrication facilities and the corresponding chip ecosystem.
India’s goal is to become a world leader in the semiconductor industry. Domestic semiconductor consumption is expected to cross $80 billion in 2026. It is a known fact that most of the chips are manufactured in Taiwan. TSMC, the world's largest contract chip manufacturer, started making semiconductor chips in 1987. According to estimates, 90% of 5 nanometre chips are mass-produced in Taiwan by TSMC. However, the tensions between China and Taiwan have led to a global chip shortage.
Increasing tensions between the US and China are encouraging global chip makers to change their supply locations. This has a paradigm shift and these chip makers are currently concentrated on moving to East and Southeast Asia. Both the Indian government and the Tata group are placing their bets to ensure this shift will make India a new hub for semiconductor technology.
The United States and India’s semiconductor groups have teamed up to reinforce their cooperation in the global semiconductor industry. India holds over 6 percent of the world’s rare earth reserves, some of which are vital to the production of semiconductors, and Indian companies have been pushing the government to take advantage of this fact.
