Napoleon's French army engaged with the Russian forces on 7th September 1812 in Borodino, 120 km west of Moscow, in the largest single-day battle of the Napoleonic Wars. Although the french were victors, they had lost thousands of men and many generals. After the war, when they entered Moscow, they were surprised to see that the Russians had burnt down their own city. The battle ground is identified and the remains of war are found in a large grave in Lithuania, the capital city of Vilnius. Careful examination shows that a major cause of death was due to be starvation, cold and diseases like typhus and cholera.

Napoleon Bonaparte was a french militant and leader, who rose to power during the french revolution, from 1789 to 1799. He was the emperor of France from 1804 to 1814 during which he led the french army to a series of wars and later came to be known as the Napoleonic Wars, before his ultimate defeat in 1815. He led against a series of coalition, one including the Russian Campaign.
