Why did India ban import of laptops?
The government on Thursday restricted the import of laptops, tablets and computers with immediate effect for security reasons and to promote domestic manufacturing. Laptops and tablets account for a fraction of India’s annual import of electronics of more than $60 billion.
The ban of import of Laptops, tablets and computers will add another layer of incentive for local manufacturing to the existing incentives worth $2 billion assured under the Productivity-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme. India is targeting annual production worth $300 billion by 2026 and the restrictions on unlimited imports will compel companies like Dell, Acer, Samsung, LG Electronics, Apple, Lenovo and HP to enhance their assembling or manufacturing facilities in India.

Consumers Interest in “Virtual Living” is Intensifying says Accenture
The growing use of immersive technologies such as augmented and virtual reality will spur consumer-facing companies, such as those in retail, consumer goods and travel, to increase investment in new capabilities and experiences to blend physical and virtual worlds, or risk being left behind, according to the findings of a recent global survey from Accenture. The survey of more than 11,000 consumers in 16 countries including India found that while almost two-thirds (64%) of consumers had already purchased a virtual good or taken part in a virtual experience or service in the past year, that figure is expected to rise, as 83% show interest in making purchases via the metaverse. Furthermore, 42% of survey respondents said they had visited a retailer in the virtual world to get advice, make a payment or browse a product range when shopping for a physical item, while 56% of respondents plan to in the next year. Among millennials, these figures increase to 51% and 61% respectively. As per the survey, “Meet Me in the Metaverse: The Continuum of Technology and Experience Reshaping Business,” more than half (55%) of consumers agree that more of their lives and livelihoods are moving into digital spaces. In response, the vast majority (90%) of retail executives say that they anticipate that leading organizations will push the boundaries of the virtual world to make it more real, increasing the need for persistence and seamless navigation between the digital and physical worlds. Further, 72% of global executives state that the metaverse will have a positive impact on their organizations, with 45% believing it will be breakthrough or transformational.
As consumers explore the virt-real world, companies that do not actively begin incorporating new immersive experiences into their business strategy now run the risk of being left behind. Wi-Fi is a family of wireless network protocols, based on the IEEE 802.11 family of standards, which are commonly used for local area networking of devices and Internet access, allowing nearby digital devices to exchange data by radio waves. These are the most widely used computer networks in the world, used globally in home and small office networks to link desktop and laptop, computers, smartphones, smart TVs, printers, and smart speakers together to a wireless router to connect them to the Internet, and in wireless access points in public places like coffee shops, hotels, libraries and airports to provide the public Internet access for mobile devices.
The term FragAttack (a mashup of ‘fragmentation’ and ‘aggregation’) is all about WiFi’s handling of data. FragAttacks could allow hackers within a device’s WiFi radio range to gather information about its owner and introduce malware to compromise intelligent devices such as computers or smartphones—even those protected by standard WiFi security protocol such as WEP WPA2 or WPA3. These vulnerabilities have to do with design flaws in the WiFi standard itself, while others have to do with how manufacturers of devices implement WiFi. With this vulnerability, adversaries might abuse the vulnerabilities to get the victim’s login details and hackers can exploit exposed Internet-of-Things (IoT) devices by activating and deactivating a smart power socket. A report says, many vendors have already released patches for some of their products.
